WIW – Not on Team Wear Today

It is freezing here. We had a thick layer of frost over
everything this morning, and it was 36F on my way into work this morning. At
least it is jeans Friday! I selected my Levis,
Ann Taylor scoop neck, and White House Black Market jacket.

I bought this
jacket in January and this is the first time I have worn it. It is warm and
cozy, but perhaps it would be better over a skirt. I also thought this might go well with my
tiger striped oxfords, but decided today was not a day to break in new shoes.

I am realizing how much more I like my WiWs when I am
wearing a skirt or dress. It does seem that the pants silhouette, while so very
comfortable and very appropriate for my industry, I just don’t feel like I look
as good in them. I may need to really
evaluate my pant capsules.

This is a very nice silhouette. You look very modern and hip, perfect business casual.

Yes, your jeans look great on you. I agree that skirts and dresses are your best look, but there are days when pants are necessary either practically or psychologically. Sometimes your pants outfits are very dark. I think you shine in the soft, pretty colors that you so often wear in your skirt or dress outfits. You might feel more like you in pants if you incorporated color into the outfits (like that wrap top you just wore).

I think I know why you are not as in love with pants. Have you tried pointed toe or almond toed shoes with them? The difference is dramatic. No one believes me until they try. I am not sure why but rounded toe shoes do that to pants.

I still think you look very pretty. I totally missed your denim conquer here. I do like the all black outfit here.

I think this blazer is fantastic on you Thistle and I like it with the jeans. I hear you about the skirts and dresses being your favorite - I have always preferred skirts and dresses over pants and although I've enjoyed experimenting with trousers a lot over the past year, I find myself returning to my frocks again. Wear what makes you happy!

Thistle, I so disagree! I love when you wear your figure flattering tops with your black trousers! Shoe change could do the trick like Zap suggested.

I like this jacket and silhouette on you. I think Zapotte is right that a pointy or almond shoe would probably make you feel happier.

I find in general that I have to add a feminine element to my trouser outfits to make me feel good in them.

I agree with other comments - your dresses have more colour and pattern going on, so adding that element to pants outfits may help. Basic black pants will take more effort to look special. But there is also nothing wrong with loving the skirts and dresses you wear so well, and if you find them easier too... run with it! I find figuring out hose and appropriate cold weather footwear for dresses more challenging than pants, so I'm personally fine with pants in the winter and tons of dresses with sandals in the summer. It makes my wardrobe personality perhaps seem schizo to some but I am totally OK with that

Great sihouette! Pants can be trickier and skirts and dresses are just so much easier at least in my experience...

You look great, Thistle. The jeans fit incredibly well. But I do agree you would look more fashion forward and trendy with a different pants... cuff? Hem? Like a pair of flares, instead of straight legs.

I think this is a nice outfit on you, and with a couple of minor tweaks it could be stellar.
Zapotee is so right about the way pointed toe shoes can transform an outfit like this.
Add those and a colorful silk scarf at the neck and I think you'd be in K word territory.

Of course you are the queen of the wrap dress, but I do think you can wear pants well, too. Don't give up on them!

What Parsley said - you need some softness to your outfits imo & a beautiful silk scarf & ladylike shoes would be just the ticket.

LOVE the jacket on you! And the jeans look great! So yes... add a scarf or necklace and change out the shoes and you will be super fab!!
