WIW – Funeral Attire

I sort of feel like I am going to a funeral in this dress. I bought it when I was still lurking on YLF and thought it would be slimming because it is black. I still like the V-neck but am not as certain about the skirt.

I paired it with some snakeskin sandals, also pre-YLF. I bought them as my “wild side” shoes back when I thought snake print was wild. Super comfortable, but less sure if they are fashionable.

Paired with a necklace from DH.

I would like to salvage this dress as this is the first time I have worn it. Any thoughts on ways I can spruce it up?

I think it looks pretty on you and fits you. In rotation with all of your colorful pieces, I think this works. You might try it with your gold sandals--I think they would freshen the look.

The fit of this dress on you is so gorgeous Thistle. I like the sandals with it. Your metallic sandals or leopard shoes would also work. I agree with Rambling Ann about adding a colorful handbag and you could also pop on a statement necklace of some kind - something chunky or colorful to fit in the v-neck opening.

I think the dress looks nice on you. You could spruce it up by adding a colored jacket, or a colored necklace or scarf. I have a lot of black and try to add color to it in the summer. Here's what I wore last Friday - pretty similar outfit to yours with a turquoise necklace.

Oh yes, the gold sandals would be so nice with this. Is it too warm to add a cami underneath just to get that bit of color at the V?

Pil - I am in the air conditioned office, car or house most of the day. I could totally put a colorful cami on underneath.

I do need to become a bag lady. I am just usually in such a rush in the morning, I am not sure I would good at transfering between bags!

It is a beautful frock on you - and adding in the pizazz is all it needs to de-funeral it. Remind me, you have a denim jacket don't you?

Great suggestions, already, Thistle. Everyone needs an LBD. In general, black is pretty "strong" against your fair, low-contrast coloring (so peaches and creamy lovely). The bits of color will make all the difference.

The fit and the shape of the dress are stellar, and those sandals are great, too, they just look a little casual for the dress on its own. Now, paired with a denim jacket the sandals might work a little better, imho.

I think a brightly colored, patterned scarf and a white blazer would be nice, and with metallic sandals to have a bit of shine. This is a really nice dress on you.

I have a very similar dress in black, so I vote that this is too sexy and modern to be funeral attire. Or at least, you'd be committing Funeral Faux Pas by wearing this! I love this choice of shoes, and you can also change the look entirely with different heels and shoe configurations. You look nice.

Ya, you look great in this dress. Ha! You and Sarah are twins... maybe I should get an LBD. I love Sarah's sandals with the black wrap - I think gladiators are a great idea. My immediate thought, tho, was a shoe with a little heel.

Love the idea of a statement necklace like Sara's! You look great in the dress. Colorful shoes and bag would work well too.

When you find the right white jacket, be sure to wear it with this dress. I can see all sorts of jackets with it...floral...stripe...lace...navy...any flattering color...
A black dress is like a blank canvas. You can even wear a short sweater or wrap top over it so that it becomes a skirt.

I like both pieces -- they get a thumbs up from me. The sandals look comfortable and they have graphic nature which adds style.

As for the dress -- I think all it needs is some colorful footwear or purse and/or jewelry (bracelet?) to spruce it up. A denim jacket worn with these sandals would turn the outfit more casual. Finally, I'm seeing a white shirt tied casually at your waist as another way to style this dress. You could add the aforementioned bright footwear for a bold, three color look.

I think the sandals would look great with jeans -- skinny, straight or boyfriend (the bfs rolled a bit to show the full sandal).

I love the dress Thistle. It could easily become a work horse. I agree that adding some pops of colour will lift the dress. The sandals are very cool looking. I would keep. Will look great with jeans and trousers.
