Tomorrow DD (10) has her endoscopy/colonoscopy tomorrow morning. Today was a grueling day of preparation, so we are glad to be getting it over. I'll post back when we are home- hopefully with some results. (She had some bloodwork done Friday, and some of those results should be in)

Thanks for all of the good wishes!
Everything went smoothly, and all of her test results were normal. He did notice that the opening at the top of her stomach is a bit large and there was a small bit of inflamation- which points to acid reflux. So, we will just watch her diet to see what things irritate it, and proceed accordingly.
She's feeling a little groggy still, but was up to eating lunch out.

It would have been nice to have a great big POSITIVE test result for something, just to know for sure. But, none of the things they were testing for are great things to deal with. Ruling out these things (Celiac, colitis, IBS...) is just as good to me. I think the doctor would want to do a swallow study to confirm diagnosis, but I'm thinking that we can manage that with just diet unless it gets really bad.

Acid reflux can certainly cause someone to not want to eat much, to be a picky eater, to not tolerate certain foods, and to lose weight. Also to have a lot of trouble sleeping or to be tired all the time (poor sleep because the reflux wakes you up in the night) - does this sound about right?

Yes Shiny- and she often says that her throat hurts when she is not feeling well, on top of the coughing that made the doc suspect Cyctic Fibrosis. So, I guess I just need to put in some research to see how best to manage it.

Chewy, do you have any plans to give PPI's a try? Diet can help, but when it gets really bad, the drugs work miracles. You don't need to take them forever - nowadays they say take them for 60-90 days to heal the damage. THEN use diet and such to keep it from recurring.

When I was in college I had a period of major problems with GERD, which was really uncomfortable. I have been unfortunately busy and haven't been keeping up with the message boards as frequently as I'd like, so I do now know the extent of your daughter's problems. I can't remember who told me this, but to this day, any time I am having a bit of acid reflux or am uncomfortable and going to sleep, I sleep on my left side. For some reason it makes a HUGE difference. If she is having discomfort when she is lying down, I suggest giving this a try.
