So I finished! Lol, it wasn't quite as fast as I had hoped, but I finished and that is good enough. I ran it in 4 hours 32 minutes. And to be fair I spent about 6-7 minutes getting a medic for a a man that collapsed on the sides at the 20k mark. And it sort of broke up my "numb running mojo" for a bit. I did my half marathon 2 years ago in 1:51, but my race that day went super well, and today I wasn't quite as energetic. I think I could do one is 4:10 or 4:15 but 4:32 is just fine, and I don't plan on doing one again to see how much I can improve, haha!
So the weather was good temp wise, 14C, but it did rain a bit. The rain really didn't bother me though, I was never actually cold. But I think I didn't fuel myself too well before, because I felt really tired very early on, like to the point I wasn't even sure I'd finish half. Last night I couldn't eat much though, I guess it was a bit of nerves, and my stomach was upset. So I felt foggy the whole time like I needed more energy. And I think my legs were a little heavy after having the better part of a month off! Haha! But I loved my Croatia trip, I did not want to run there, and I still did respectable in the race, so I'm happy.
I have to say though, I felt so out of place running the full. The people that I would say I was closer to "athlectic-wise" were mostly in the half marathon. There were way less women than men in the full marathon, and all of them were super tall, thin and muscular. They said that most people running the full are runners that had done it many times, which I thought was kinda funny to say, I mean you have to do it a first time sometime, right? But I guess overall, the marathon is for "seasoned runners"
Anyway, enough babbling, although just a quick funny story, I literally felt like crying when I saw the finish line. The last 7 miles we SO tough and I was sort of choked up and it made it hard to breath and run faster for the finish. haha...never been happier! Oh and the waffles were pretty much the most delicious meal I've had in years! I am so, unbelievably sore now, sitting is the most difficult to do.
Here's me, looking a little "worse for the wear" at the finish line.
