WIMW: Date Night and is the Moto a Keeper? ETA: Going with jeans

Hello All,

Please indulge me a photo post without having been around much. After seeing Lyn* summer dress for winter i thought I might give it a go for hubby's birthday tonight. We will be meeting new friends in a group setting where we only know one of the four couples and hubby is keen to get to know some people in the new town we have moved to a few months ago. With all that said I want to make a good impression and not fall into any fashion victim territory!

Also the moto is my proposed Christmas present. It is the John Carlisle from Nordstrom in as petite M (i usually wear normal tops -- im 5'5.5") but this was available on sale in my budget and seeing Angie's answer to a question on it a while back that it was too long for petites I thought I'd give it a go. Ill reserve my opinion on the jacket so as to not sway the results.

Also should I wear sheer black hose instead of the gray tights?

ETA 2: Ornella, you are so right! I am sticking with the moto... putting on my high waisted flare jeans, a white pintuck shirt, my fav calf hair leopard belt and adding a lady like retro purse to finish it off. Will post a pic in a few minutes.

I think the jacket is very nice on you and particularly like the fit and flare at the hemline. Others do comment on how leather stretches, if that might make a difference in the fit.

As far as the dress, I love it, but feel it is a little *too* summery to make the leap to winter. I think it is the brightness of the white for me. But that's just me : )

The moto looks like it fits and the color is gorgeous, but I'll let others with more of an eye for that cast their verdicts on the fit!

I agree with pil that the dress is too summery to moonlight as a winter dress, too. It's a combination of the white background and floral motif for me.

The moto is gorgeous! And I'm surprised that's a petite -- the length works for you. How's the shoulder fit? I can't tell whether it's big in the shoulders or not.

I would go with sheer hose to try the summer-in-winter look. But I'm not sure the moto is the right jacket to wear with the dress. To me, the contrast is a bit too strong. I noticed Lyn* wore a cardi with her -- a softer look that worked with the dress. Do you have a cropped black (or whatever color goes with the trim on the bottom of the dress) cardi to try?

Other suggestions -- scrunch the sleeves of the moto and wear some dark chunky bracelets with it.

I love the moto jacket! I don't think it pairs well with this dress. I also agree that the dress coloring is too summery to become winterized.

The shoulder fit in the jacket is perfect... like a second skin without being constricting. I basically adore it. The fit and flare at the hem the pil commented on liking is where i am not sure...mainly it is not a shilouette I have ever worn. I am looking for the piece to be a long term wear and dont know if the fit and flare hem is too pepulum like and will date?

As for the dress... maybe I'll abandon and find something else to pair with the moto... wish i would not have just put my black jersey dress in the washer 15 min ago!

I second the suggestions for changing the dress. Very fresh, bright and therefore seasonally confusing, I don't see sheer hose balancing it out much more.

Personally, I would steer from untried combinations in the circumstances when I know very few people, but would stick to what I feel great and comfortable in (hence less self-conscientious).
I think with the jacket like this you can wear the simplest of outfits (layering top, turtleneck, button down + jeans) and make great impression.

Have fun on the evening. i'm going through all that setting up a life in a new environment myself and know how important it is to meet the like-minded and interesting people.

JCrew high waist jeans, Sigrid Olsen beaded pintucked shirt, black camisole, black ballet flats, new moto, and vintage purse.

We are headed out the door!

Love the jacket/jeans combo. It looks relaxed but polished, and the pop of yellow in the bag is outstanding.

Hope you're having fun at the party! That dress shirt is awesome. And the moto is delicious too.
