There appears to be a very fine line between slouchy and oversized, but it seems you've found it!
FYI nail polish works great for covering hardware so long as you:
1) build it up with multiple thin coats,
2) give it enough time to dry between coats (otherwise it has a tendency to slip & smear on metal), and
3) varnish it with a clear coat after.
