I rather fell for this dress

https://www.ezibuy.com/shop/au.....s/p/137598 and ordered it when it was marked down in a temp sale. It's taken ages to get here - freight delays are a corona problem where I live

But today it arrived and I'd like your thoughts.
Pro - seems good quality

Con
- isn't light and chiffony which is what I had in mind (which will actually probably make it more durable) but quite heavy and drapy
- is possibly a bit shorter that what I was thinking of for a midi

-reminds me of my grandmother's outfits from the 70's

Pic one - self belt

Pic 2 - no belt (somewhat looser around the torso than I imagined but a good fit in the shoulders) I could possibly alter and take in the seams.

Pic 3 - wider belt (prob not good colour match)

Love your unfettered opinions on this. Don't worry about my feelings!

From what I can see, it looks great. If your heart is set on midi length, then pass but the color and style is fab on you!

Hi KG, Thanks for your feedback. I'm definitely trying to weigh up the length question. This is is almost definitely a more flattering length for me for a midi anyway!

The lenght seems fine to me. I like the dress and think it would look lovely with a thinner belt. Great fit on you!

The length and pattern look good to me. I don't like what happens to it with the wide belt -- the proportions feel blocky.

Pic 1, with the self belt, looks OK belted, except that the torso looks too big. Is it possible to size down, or would it be too small across the shoulders then?

If you had in mind something light and chiffony, were you wanting a spring dress or a summer dress that could handle the heat? I find a dress like this navy one difficult, because the fabric seems to be too heavy for summer, but the cut appears to want to be a casual breezy dress.

I can see why you liked this style. So great to have sleeves, some length, some swoosh.
But in these photos the dress seems to take over. Not seeing “ you” as much as in other items. Maybe bodice fit as noted above, sleeves are too voluminous or fabric too crisp or something. I am a polka fit fan but not sure this is the one.
Take all this with a grain of salt since these static photos often don’t give the true vibe.

I love it! Then again, I love that style. On you, I like the color, print scale and silhouette.
I like it best with the self belt, although a wider belt in the same blue would work to my eye. "Heavy" fabric and drape would work well for fall through spring.

It's a great dress and suits you! I like it best with the self belt. I'm assuming it's a winter/spring item for you? I don't think the dress is overwhelming you but I would like to see lighter styling on the bottom, maybe bare leg or nude hose? I think that would lighten up the look and book end your hair. Not sure what your options are wardrobe and climate wise.

Liz, it's winter here in Australia, but I could wear this dress half way through spring and late autumn as well.
I'm reluctant to size down, only because it took so long to arrive. Bit annoyed because I was trusting the measurements on the site. However a size down might be tighter in the sleeves. Don't know.

Unfrumped I am a bit worried that it's wearing me.

Jules, we sort of cross posted. I agree. Nude hose would be better and quite achievable.
Anchie, yes I think so. I am very long waisted, and it might be a sign that this is too big if the waist is in the right spot.

Oh, that explains the different hem lengths. Lol. I wondered about that and didn’t get it. It’s the last that I don’t think is so good, the wide.

Yes, I think all agree that the wide belt doesn't work. Which is weird because usually I look much better in wide belts. Also the model is wearing an even wider one. My waist is not what I would like it to be at the moment but I'm hoping for some improvement in the next couple of months as spring comes.
I'll try it on with some nude hose, and see what my daughters think (dh likes it, but he is biased in my favour!) but I'm still very much on the fence and may return it.

I like it I. #1 and #2, ut not with the wide belt in #3. Too much contrast. I don’t know what it would look like with a wide low contrast belt. If you want a more floaty dress, return this one and keep looking.

Anne, you look trim and fab (as always), but I do understand, my waist is not what I want it to be either, as often happens at this time of year.

I really like the dress on you, especially with the self tie belt. I would like to see this with bare legs (or nude hosiery) and a lighter shoe or boot to take it into Spring and sandals for Summer - red ballet flats and a skinny red belt for example would really make this look lighter and brighter.

Pretty dress, Anne! If you had shoes to match the wide belt, you'd be in business.

I like it too, but not with the wide belt- but mainly cause of the color of the belt.

I prefer it with the self belt or maybe a narrow navy blue or black and I think it looks great! So pretty! So practical!

#1 is a great look. The self-tie belt makes the dress look surprisingly chic and emphasizes your slim waist. Lighter hosiery and neat footwear would likely make the dress look even better and give it a summer look. You could also try light-blue shoes and a THIN light blue belt. Knee-long navy boots and a thin off-white turtleneck would be fab in winter.

So here it is with bare legs.
Note that I'm wearing a super push up bra to mitigate the chest flattening effects of the heavy dress and the only high heels I had handy that are about to be thrown out.

I love this dress! I think it will look good worn in a variety of ways, including with trainers and a navy wide or skinny belt.

The dress is pretty and I think it looks good on you. But you might consider shortening the sleeves. If they have button cuffs, just move the buttons a bit to make the cuffs a little tighter and sit up higher to your wrists instead of the tops of your hands. The length of the sleeves makes me feel the dress is overwhelming you.

Cjh, yes I know the sleeves are too long. I have short arms so that happens a lot. Good idea of yours to move the button.

Maybe cutting and moving belt loops up will bring it to a better position proportionally - just a smidge higher.

I really like the outfit with the leopard shoes.

I am viewing this in sharp sunlight, so I may be wrong, but to me it looks like your leopard shoes are kind of bookending your hair. (Always a great, harmonious look, as you may know from earlier blog posts from Angie. ) So If this happens to be the case, I would suggest you look for more leopard footwear and other leopard items.
