WIGTW to hubby's promotion to Captain

Hello ladies, been uber busy! I have been preparing for our military move to Colorado Springs and my hubby is promoting to Captain in the Air Force this weekend. I'm so excited!!! I went out and bought a pretty blue green springy peplum dress for the ceremony. This is the first time I've worn a peplum. I think it looks great! Let me know what you ladies think and if you agree.

That's a very pretty dress! I only wonder whether it's appropriate for the occasion. It's VERY short and bodycon, and I was under the impression that events like this are maybe a little more conservative. But there's no question you look amazing in it!

You definitely do look amazing, but I had the same concerns as MaryK. It may be a tad short for the occasion. Then again, I don't know what dress code is for these events. It's a great dress on you though!

I agree with MaryK. The peplum and the colour are great on you, but the skirt (lack of) length and the overall fit and impression give me pause. It strikes me as a clubbing dress.

Well ty ladies for your honest opinions I've seen girls wear shorter dresses though. It covers everything and when I bend there's no show. It is definitely body con though! Were having a huge promotion party right after, so it's going to be dancing, drinking, ect. This is for it all!

You have a lovely figure and the dress is amazing! I have to admit, though, that I had the same thoughts as the gals who posted earlier. Can I make a suggestion? Could you wear some flats (pointy toes would be gorgeous, but round toes will be lovely too) with it for the ceremony with the brass and then switch into your heels for the party? I completely understand what you are saying about what other gals have worn and about multi-purposing it for event and party. However, I also know that female officers and the wives of male officers tend to a more conservative bent in dressing for official events and that these ceremonies involve a lot of higher ups and their spouses.

Colorado Springs is a beautiful area of the U.S. The dress is much more body con, and shorter than I've ever worn but if you feel confident in it, you should go for it as long as DH loves it too. Have a great time!

You look amazing in that dress and I love the combo of mint and navy. For the ceremony, could you do some kind of light cover-up, like a longline blazer in cream or white, and flat or kitten-heel shoes? That would tone down the va-va-va-voom factor. Then you could toss the cover-up and switch to heels for the big party!

For a Captain promotion party I would totally go for this. Probably a bit too short and bodycon for a Major pinning. But everyone knows that 1LT and Captians are young and mainly like to have a good time at the Club. I was AF for 9 years and seperated as a Captain FWIW.

Thank you everyone for your honesty and suggestions I actually do have a long trench I could wear over and then toss for the after party.@ Sara A... Ya, AF! lol... That's awesome you served! I have a lot of girlfriends in the military and your right 1 Lt's and Captains are partiers and like clubs. lol... I have 5 kiddos though, so we don't do much clubbing. This party is a HUGE deal though! It's where you throw down $1000-2000 down on the O club and then an after party. It's expected of you and we've done it! Thank you for your opinions and advice ladies

You look wonderful, fab and great...I am sure having five little ones keeps you on your toes...Congrats on your husband getting those captain's bars...
Why don't you consider adding a blazer to your closet...You can pick up an unexpensive one, as this is probably not something that fits into your lifestyle at the moment...then you can throw it over this cute promotion dress and have an outfit that is both fun and conservative...
I hope this evening is everything you and your DH want it to be..

It's a lovely dress and I do love the peplum, Bree. My first impression was that it might be a tad too body con for a promotion ceremony but fine for an O Club party. I was an AF wife for 25 years and my husband was promoted to Captain way back in the early 80's, so that makes me a dinosaur, LOL! I really have no idea how it is done these days but I think the ladies have given you some good options. Have fun and a big congrats to your hubby!

The dress looks great! My only suggestion what almost everyone else has suggested. Tone down the dress for the ceremony and go all out for the party.

If the ceremony is outside and the weather cooperates, I think the trench would be the perfect solution. Then BAM! for the party.

Thank you again for your suggestions and comments. I actually do have few blazers, but they are black. I do have a tan/nude trench though. I could wear that since I'm wearing nude heels. Yes I really do have 5 kids. lol... Part genetics and also I work out with a kettlebell 5 xs a week and do 100 old fashioned waist crunches a day! I also eat pretty healthy as well and have smaller portion sizes. btw... Here's some pics of my family and me in the gold dress before I really started working out.

Your kids are beautiful, Bree, and so are you -- both before and after the workouts! I love kettle bells.

Dress is gorgeous on you. I agree with the others -- try to find a way to make it a bit more conservative for the ceremony and then all speed ahead for the party!

My weight fluctuates so rapidly. If I go a week or two without working out and eating junk, I gain 5- 10 lbs, however I can lose it just as quickly once I resume my workouts.

You look terrific in the dress. Sounds like it is appropriate for the event. That would be my only concern. My dad was airforce, and "back in the old days" it was a pretty formal ceremony.

Ty ladies for your comments and replies It's nice to see other military members and dependents out there and get their opinions and recommendations as well. Times have changed a little and the girls definitely dress less modest. I liked that it was body con, but it also covered everything. There was no cleavage to be seen and I'm wearing a good supportive bra. I just thought a little leg never hurt. That's my best feature, so I like to show them off! lol... I might go with the trench as I don't have time to buy a matching blazer before tomorrow.

It looks great on you! As others have commented, it's much more bombshell than most the ladies here would ever dress, including me actually. But if that's you and you are totally comfortable with it, why not? We can't all share the same modesty levels and if you know from experience that it will not be glaringly over the top for the occasion (which could actually embarrass your loved one by proxy) I'd go for it!

I would try on the blazer and trench and see which one you thinks looks better. Bring it and assess the vibe of the scene, if you want to slip it on based upon what you see from the other ladies or if it gets cold outside or the A/C is cold. And if you dont wear it then no matter...
