Ok - so, I've been playing around in my head (a very scary place!) how to incorporate the plaid trend into my wardrobe. First attempt was adding the bright swath of color around the waist of a "white-out" outfit that was just a little too precious for me and I was hoping that the plaid would toughen it up a little bit. I didn't like it. I felt as though the plaid around the waist was stumpifying and jarring to the eye. I think that I should try this particular shirt with a darker outfit - navy blue perhaps? And, maybe try a lighter colored shirt if I want to wrap it around the waist of this white outfit?
What do you think? I'd love to get your feedback.
Also - what do you think of the skirt length - and the flats together? More stumpifying elements???

(Oh - one last thing - the white blouse felt too boxy tucked into the skirt - I'm thinking I need to wear one that is more tailored - any thoughts on that?)

I love the elements of this - the white, the pink plaid and your HAIR. OMGoodness, SO fab!
I think the shirt knotted at the waist is a little grungy for you. What about a casual scarf in the same plaid? Or maybe tying the scarf at the neck instead?

I think the shirt and skirt are great and love them with the flats.
I would use softer colors here - pastels, tan, light grey...around your shoulders instead your waist?

I'm feeling like either the top or the skirt need a little more casual vibe with the tied shirt at the waist. Say, a white tee, or a denim pencil skirt. Maybe even casual sneakers? The tied shirt seems a little at odds with the other pieces, and I think switching out even just one of those elements would make it more cohesive.

I like the idea, though. I think it can work well with a tweak or two!

i would go with a tee and sneaks (laceless or slip on) as janet suggests. love the plaid shirt at the waist.

I really like where you are going with this - and this is a great palette! - but then I think there are too many 'ideas' here - dressy, casual, rugged. I agree with Janet - either a different skirt, or a different top - something more casual.

I like the elements here too, but am having a difficult time getting past your fantastic haircut! Love it!!

I don't mind the plaid shirt at the waist at all, but the top, skirt and flats aren't working together to my eye. Skirt with a simpler ,more fluid top? Or current top with a less dressy skirt? And maybe a pointed toe flat to echo your fashion forward hair?

You might feel more streamlined with a tailored shirt thrown into this combination, so it's worth a try.

Ooh fun! I think perhaps you'd be happier if you layered this top over that white one and left it partially unbuttoned (for a layered button-up shirt thing), and then tucked the lot in. The skirt (and its length) with flats are brilliant together. You could also try the top half (white shirt with plaid tied at the waist) with BF jeans and refined non-casual footwear (and maybe add a haute baseball cap).

Thank you for all of the suggestions! Yes - I think that I would feel more comfortable in this if the plaid was in a softer palette - or if the blouse was less boxy. I had considered switching out the ballet flats to sneakers, but I thought that was probably one trend too many for me! Also - I really, really wish that I could wear pointed toe flats, but I haven't been able to find any that will stay on my feet - so the round toed nude ones are getting a great work out!

Wow. Very cool. I like it, but I especially love what Aida has suggested for future versions.

I was thinking along the lines of one of the pieces being a bit more casual as well, to tie in with the plaid tied at the waist. Fun idea!

I don't find the outfit stumpifying at all. I like it. The nude flats are gorgeous iwth the outfit. Like you, I would probably go for a more muted plaid shirt to put at the waist, though. Still, I think the plaid has a soft look that works well with the whites. I could also see wedge sneakers in a light shade with this outfit.

Actually, I like the outfit as is. But owning that shirt, I'll bet you would have felt better with a different shirt tucked in. The wide pleat on the back of that one makes it quite voluminous and not really ideal for tucking. It's not that it looks bad. But I can instantly imagine how it would have felt, and the cut also makes the collar and neckline a bit wonky when it is tucked (or, quite honestly, even when the shirt isn't tucked. I find I'm often fussing with that collar and neckline on mine.)

I am on board with trying a more pastel plaid shirt here, too. But that doesn't make this version bad. Just different from what you might have preferred.

Looks terrific to me. I like the skirt with the ballet flats and the boxy top. Others have suggested a different shirt to tie around your waist, but this looks good to me too.
