As Janet mentioned in her post today, it's nice to support a small local business if it's realistic for your circumstances.
I got a double gold-star because this particular small business retailer my friend since baby-hood, not to mention she married my cousin (they met through my family). She specializes in formal-wear (extra tough since proms and weddings are all but cancelled for the foreseeable future). She's also started branching out into more everyday wear, featuring Canadian designers, and although she is a 'boutique' she has many affordable items (yay for me!).
I chose a navy summer dress by Pink Martini that is as comfy as jammies and super-simple (this is a summer essential) and a pair of earrings that have a Kate-ish vibe to me, as she often wears these sorts of drops in various materials. These have a resin-y look in the photo, but irl, they have a bit of iridescence to them (sort of like mother-of-pearl).
She dropped them off to the door this afternoon, which was a nice surprise and pick-me-up after my whingy morning
