Wi(A)W: way out – or not?

Trying one of my (two) LBD for a casual day at work. The first one is what I ALMOST wore, though backing out in the last second. I ended up with my denim jacket – it felt way safer.
What do you think of these two outfits? Is the first one far too much or is it working? How about the second one? Too safe and boring?

Please be 110% frank!

LBD (Karen Millen)
Mole cardi, linen (Hugo Boss)
Black hose with dots
purple/yellow/white wedges (Fly London)
Yellow / coral / neutral scarf (H&M)

#1-2 …and WAY OUT: my sheep vest!
#3-4 …and safe and sound: denim jacket
#5-6 details of dress/hose + draping on dress

I think that the really big difference in length between the cardigan and the jacket is throwing me in both cases. I do prefer the denim jacket though, and I really like the pop of color from the scarf and how it echoes your shoes. Maybe the wooly vest could work, but then I feel like the vibe of the other elements has to change--maybe remove the cardigan and replace the scarf with a long necklace and the wedges with boots because they echo the warm cozy vibe better? Just my ideas but I am not that good at outfit analysis.

i really like the asymmetry in the sweater and jacket/vest lengths. adore the vest color picking up on the shoe trim and the shearling trim exposed. love the vest look. i wish i had all the elements to copy!!!

@scarlet: thank you so much for your comments and input. looking at the outfit again, I see the contrasts I'm aiming at, i.e high/low, warm/chilly, classic (LBD) / rough (jacket/vest). though I was not sure how I managed the balance in #1, wich also might be TMGO.

@bj1111: thank you! how fun and interesting to see the different reactions to the same outfits and I'm really surprised and humble of having inspired you - copy as much as you want!

I like the different elements you're playing with! Can you try layering the vest over the denim jacket, without the cardigan?

I like it with the denim jacket, Harmonica (fun shoes too, by the way). I think the white/off-white trim on the waistcoat might be a little too much here, it cuts up the silhouette a little I think?

I LOVE the 'way out' version so much I'm struck speechless! As Angie noted, extremely full of personality and stylishness.

However, absolutely head-over-heels for those shoes with that scarf. That is truly inspired, that is!

I like both of these! I do prefer the way out version (1/2) but the safer version is great too. Love all the layers you have going on, and those shoes are amazing.

If it weren't way too hot here, I'd be tempted to try and copy #1 with the LBD I just bought. The only element I don't have is the sheep vest but I do have other types of vests...

The first outfit is very creative! Maybe you liked the tonal look of the denim with the grey cardigan? Maybe if you had a camel/tan cardigan to go with the vest?

@Inge: thanks for commenting hmmm, I see what you mean, but the trim also follows a vertical line in front...

@Angie: another thumbs up from you is so appreciated!!! I am also starting to see the contours of how, why and where the RATE vibe is important to me. though, I havn't quite figured out the "thown together" part yet

@Manidipa: Thanks! I'll keep you in my mind whenever I think I'm passing the line Fly london is such a great brand! I love their style and their shoes are soooo comfortable

@Diana: I'd love to see a lighter version with some of your vests!!

@AJ: great input, AJ! I actually don't think I have a camel/tan cardi... I've mostly worn the wool vest with a white blouse. I'll keep it in mind, though. Might get handy in many ways

I like both versions, though I prefer the denim jacket one a bit more. The shearling version just reads as too fall-ish to my eye

ETA: The linen cardi is just for warmer days and can't be worn at fall without getting too cold in the arms, though I have another long cashmere cardi that could replace this one. The only thing is that the "shine" of the linen will have to go and hence the contrasts of the fabrics
