Why are shoes so difficult?? Ranting.....

I've been looking for several weeks and can't seem to find a pair of sandals I like. I'm not a 21-year-old clubber capable of striding about on 4-inch stilettos. I'm also not 85 years old and wearing pastel polyester matchy suits with ortho sneakers.

Just as with a lot of clothing, us middle-agers who want to be stylish seem to be utterly invisible to the fashion world.

What I am is a 45-year-old woman who would simply like a pair of 2-3-inch or so heels in a fashionable and somewhat edgy style that takes into account my freakishly high arches and would prefer to pay less than SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS A PAIR. Okay, that price point is me being sarcastic.

Is that too much to ask for?? Is it?? ARG!

I'm going to try on some Earthies today. I like some Tsubo styles. I like Clarks on ladies here, but I'm afraid they'd go all matronly on me.

I adore these Tsubos but the 4-inch heels make them useless to me. MUST. NOT. BUY. ANYWAY.

I hear you ! What about some of the Geox line, or Fidjis? They have some interesting styles. Check out Franco Sarto too - they have some fun styles for spring too. I also liked the pair that KellyGirl posted about yesterday, a metallic criss cross gladiator style that had comfort and good looks too.

I have two pairs of Dolce Vita sandals and they are the bomb. They are super comfy all day walking shoes for me.

I have styles from both Jambu and Clarks Indigo line that I've been so happy with that I've purchased in more than one color. Dansko also makes some cute styles. Have you checked out http://www.barkingdogshoes.com for recs and reviews?

Urgh. I hear you. I've ranted about this extensively, and it's still driving me nuts.

I did finally manage to buy a pair of sandals for walking around town on vacation. I've only been looking for a suitable pair for, oh, 4-5 years now. Now I just need some everyday shoes that don't make me look like I'm trying too hard to recapture my youth and don't aggravate my newly identified arthritic toe. Bah.

Have you tried searching on endless.com or zappos by heel height? I find that helps to weed out the ones that are never going to work.

I was recently at Clarks and Naturalizer and was surprised at how cute the sandals were. Most of the heel heights were too high for me though (even in a comfort shoe I want a 2" heel at max these days for work) but I didn't try on all of them. Do you have options for in person browsing?

I finally found a pair of Tahari sandals with a low heel at Marshall's - they had quite a few new sandals in.

Thank you for all the links and suggestions ladies! I'll check them out. Despite having them on the website, my Macy's (the most matronly Macy's on earth) did not have Earthies in the store.

I did try on a great pair of Calvin Klein's in bright orange, but I've got a boring pair of KorkEase that I'm going to have dyed orange so couldn't really justify spending the $$ on the CKs.

I know what you mean - I was at Marshalls (or was it Ross, I always get those mixed up) yesterday and all the shoes, I mean 90% of them, that weren't totally flat strappy sandals with no support were 3"+ stripper heels. Seriously. It was weird.

I have also had a lot of luck with Naturalizer, and Clarks. When I am having totally no luck with shoes, I a) go to Nordstroms and throw myself on the mercy of a salesperson or b) order anything that's remotely a possibility from Zappos and then try them all on, hoping one or two will work.
