Hi! I'm Jess, 26 years old. I've always WANTED to sew, and tried to dabble in dressmaking about six or so years ago, but lost interest pretty quickly. I recently inherited my nana's sewing machine and my mum's overlocker, and I'm having a lot of fun sewing bits and pieces.

I found the site when I was looking for advice for how to adjust patterns with too much fabric in the upper back, and found a really awesome thread on it.

I never know how to describe my body shape. I'm only 5'1", I have a somewhat narrow waist, and narrow shoulders, but I have large hips and a large (very) bust. I'm not quite shoulder wide to be an hourglass but I'm not small enough in the bust to be a pear. Maybe I AM an apple? Who knows. I'm looking forward to perusing the forums for bits that might take me a long way.

Hi, my name's Ro and I'm so happy to have found this site!
I'm 28 and work in fashion PR. I've become more interested in dressing in a way that suits my figure and my lifestyle instead of what's trendy.
I'd been researching colour analysis and progressed on to dressing for your body shape and found YLF. I think I'm a hippy rectangle or a tall (ish) pear? I'm struggling to give up my skinny jeans but know it needs to be done!
Really excited to get more involved in this wonderful forum.

Howdy!

My name is Ann. I`m very interested in fashion and everything related. I like to sew and making simple(for the moment) pieces of jewelry. I`m studying jewelry art, it is hard, hot, and affects my nails so bad but makes me proud of myself. Hope to find interesting people here as well as new experience.

Cheers!

Hello, I'm a middle aged lady who's been following the blog with appreciation for years. Mostly content with my style, but of course things always change and there's always room for improvement. Not sure how much I'll be able to contribute here. But I find the forum to be full of useful tips for shopping resources, clothing care, grooming, and thoughtful style discussion. Hoping to exchange more tips about shopping in Europe!

Hi, I’m Tamara. It’s great to find this site with so much support
and information. Hope to contribute a bit, too.

I’m either an hourglass or close to it and I do like to
highlight my waist. My personal style is a blend. Classic, Vintage,
and Romantic are the main ones, plus a bit of Artsy, Business modest Bombshell,
and Boho too. I’m working to put my signature style into words, but it’s been
something I have felt, rather than thought about.

After a long rut in jeans and shirts, since the beginning of
November I’ve begun dressing more authentically. Love velvet, linen, cotton and
lace, some ruffles and trims, and appreciate details and interesting lines.
They must be comfortable though, and most of my outfits do feel like I’m
wearing pajamas.

At 58, I’ve seen a lot of trends, and tend to ignore them,
except to notice when “my style” has become more or less fashionable. My closet
is the one that still has the 1990’s black trumpet skirt, and the 1970’s ivory
crocheted shawl, plus my great grandmother’s wedding skirt from 1875 because I
love them, and they’re still useful and beautiful. Most of the rest of my
wardrobe is either thrifted, or things I’ve refashioned or made. Look forward
to sharing about thrifting, refashioning, making, etc.

Hi, my name is Glenda, and I live just outside of Sealy, TX. Hey ya'll to all the other Texans! I was born and raised in Wyoming though, and have since lived all over the world as a trailing spouse to an engineer. I teach philosophy and geography online for a college back home, and I also do real estate photography. I share my home with 4 rescue kitties who have become my fur babies.
I'm 5 foot 4 and would describe myself as a curvy hour glass.
I'm a pretty extreme minimalist with regard to fashion. I never own more than 10 outfits per season, which means I own a total of 20 outfits at any given time since we've settled here in southern Texas! (10 for summer and 10 for not-summer) I don't wear make up, and my jewelry all fits in a 14 day pill organizer.
I've been following this site for ages, but finally decided to join and say something a week or so ago because I actually had some useful information to contribute regarding the DYT program that I thought others might benefit from.
I really enjoy all the useful information and encouragement that the people on this forum provide.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Shweta. I have joined this forum to stay updated from all the knowledge sharing going on here :). I have read some posts in this forum and found them really useful. I look forward for many more here .

Hello, I'm Phoebe. I'm currently a stay at home mom, recently unemployed. Hopefully I'll be able to find a new job someday... For now, I keep myself busy reading Tarot, writing my novel, dabbling in 35mm photography, and crafting (knitting & spinning mainly).

This forum always seems to pop up whenever I'm googling a fashion query of some sort, so I thought I'd join. I like to think I have a pretty good sort of "style intuition", that is, usually I know what looks good on my body and what doesn't... sometimes I still make mistakes though, especially when ordering clothes online; I am a 5"8 overweight inverted triangle with a long torso.

Minimalist I am not, but trying out a capsule wardrobe has given me an excuse to give away everything that no longer fits quite right. The only "problem" with it is that I live in a climate that varies between two extremes--very cold or very hot, so a capsule for winter doesn't translate to a capsule for summer.

Hello to all,
I joined the YLF group a few months ago but never got around to putting my info out there.
I am a 60 year old who lives in the Northeast of the US. I teach at a college part-time. So my work wardrobe is mostly business casual: shells and cardigans or soft jackets over dress trousers or midi-skirts. Winter I switch to turtlenecks instead of shells.
At home: soft pants or jeans, more cardigans, t-shirts or turtlenecks. I love accessories: I have tons of scarves, statement necklaces and earrings.
My style has been morphing lately from modern classic to a boho edge. Oh yes: I am 5'6" and 195 lbs pear shaped.
Hope to post some outfits in the future, meantime I am enjoying reading yours!

Hi,

I'm Oscar, a 37 year old guy with a serious love for high heels.

Why should they be just for women I say!

I'm here to look around and maybe share.

Hi everyone! I'm Penelope, 35, and from the US but trying out the expat thing in Korea. I'm married with a 15 year old cat (no kids).

I'm 5'8" (5'9" when doing yoga regularly), and a size 18, although in all honestly I fluctuate between 16-20 in any given year. I'm a fairly defined apple, shortwaisted, but with large legs. From behind I look like an hourglass, so I'm sure my figure is some kind of hybrid.

For style, I like lots of colorful and abstract dresses and layered knits. Tunics and leggings are go-tos, but I can also do blouses and layers with jeans. I prefer comfort to glamor, and love the times when the two go hand in hand!

As an apple, finding clothes that fit well (and look *right*) has been a lifelong struggle. I long for the day when the norm will be to have everything customized for our bodies!

I started a fashion blog just for apple shaped women, here: https://stylishapples.com - my goal is to share what I've learned about dressing a tough body shape, and to learn from others!

Glad to meet you all,
Penelope

Hi, my name is Susan. I just recently stumbled upon YLF (can't remember how) and decided to become a member.

I just turned 60, am a slightly vertically challenged gal, measuring in at a whomping 5'2" but am not actually a true petite (other than in pants). I've been an athlete all my life and am more of a muscular build. Right now I'm about 140 but my weight has always surprised people even when I was 105 lbs in high school . . . they always would have guessed less . . . I wish!

I think I've always had kind of a complicated relationship with clothes/fashion. I was a tom boy growing up, never a princess type. My mum has veneer been an adventuresome dresser and has always stuck to the classics . . . so no exciting roll model there.

When I was on Match.com some 15 years ago (where I met my present/second husband) it said right there in my bio, very proudly, that I didn't own anything pink! At that point I had developed a uniform of essentially black and white (which included denim as well and a couple of shots of red). But somewhere along the line since then I have embraced "my princess self" . . . . she's really a nice additional to all the other parts of me

I go through phases where I'm interested in my wardrobe and what I wear and then there will be times when I'm kind of stuck in sweat pants like for an entire winter . . . . usually has to do with my weight which took a HUGE hit during menopause.

But about a year and half ago I lost a bunch of weight and am now working on not only rebuilding my wardrobe but attempting to "step it up", move outside my comfort zone, purchase the occasional piece that's actually, bestill my heart, not black or white, and generally just care a bit more.

I guess I'm hoping to find some inspiration here and perhaps a little input as well . . . . that's assuming I can bring myself to post a picture sometime!!

My name is Joan, and I am 32. I am a community college math professor, and am slowly identifying my personal style (I've been stuck in grad-student mode for too long). I generally wear jeans and a fun top - brightly colored, sequined, etc. Comfort is my primary focus when looking for clothing.
I love thrift shopping and then modifying clothing via dye or embellishment. I want to learn more sewing skills in the near future.
Hi!

Hi I am new to this site. It as mentioned somewhere on the Internet as a very friendly place with lots of ideas for stylish outfits.

I am 44 years old and as many women of this age I am struggling to find new me. Old young one does not fit me anymore. I can't complain - I have got nice legs ( which I never show as I am always going for the lazy jeans/trousers option) and curvy body with a little bit of waist. But I find it difficult to dress nicely because 1) I have smallish frame with big bust so I am top heavy 2) for most of my life I have not cared for dressing nicely so I have no idea what goes with what...jeans and jumpers have been my "uniform" ( plus a boring black\ navy work suit).

I am here to find an inspiration from Angie and her lovely converts.

Hi, my name is Tina - 45 years old and live in Connecticut. I am petite and very curvy hourglass, which means I am limited to a couple of silhouettes - basically fit-and-flare works best on me. I am here to figure out how to pare my closet down to a dresses-mostly uniform to avoid the stress of trying to match tops and bottoms. I do have some skirts and tops, but I'm finding that often, the two garments add too much bulk to my middle. I enjoy people's WIW posts and the advice on the site.

I haven't done this yet. I'm Christina, 17 years old and from NYC.
I currently work supporting the fundraisers at an environmental nonprofit (very satisfying work in these times), which is pretty casual since I"m not the one asking for money. But I can't resist finding bright, dressier pieces and incorporating them into my wardrobe.

During the past few years I've struggled with my clothes a bit due to a lifestyle change from academia to nonprofits. I have a PhD in English and taught writing who people who originally weren't much younger than me, so I had to dress up a bit. I've been feeling more boho lately, as opposed to my usual style of classy with an occasional edge and/or quirky twist,

I've also struggled due to health-related weight gain (though I've stayed the same pear shape, just bigger all over) and a tendency to bloat. I reach for comfy pants but really want to wear my skirts and dresses more. It's easy in the summer, but in the colder months I don't always want to have tights on, and some of my more tummy hugging dresses haven't come out. I Have figured out that I'm short-waisted and relatively long legged (5'4), so sometimes I need a petite in a structured top, or in a dress or coat, to make sure things are not too tight on my very curvy hips.

I'm a sucker for bright colors, jewel tones, statement skirts and prints, and stripes. Oh, and metallic shoes! But I need to wear flats a lot because I walk a great deal, and my feet are fussy. Also, I've given up wearing makeup lately, because it's easier when I go to the gym at lunch, but I kind of miss it. I don't mind how I look without it, but makeup is fun. I'm also a purse fiend.

Hi, I'm Julie, pleased to meet you all.

I'm a 47 yr old married mum to two children. Ok, children would be pushing it ... one adult and one teenager. That last sentence just made me realise how quick time does actually fly. I live in the UK, near Liverpool which is very fashion mad. Most young ladies are on trend no matter what, school run, popping to the shop for milk etc.

I love fashion, my weakness are boots and coats. And sparkle, so anything glitter or sequins and it's right up my street. I love to accessories with bling jewellery too. I found this website the other day as I had googled 'is it ok for women over 40 to wear distressed denim jeans' ... and here you all are asking similar questions.

Hello lovelies!

My name is Leila and I'm from Canada and my full-time profession is in the sciences, specifically clinical research sector. I am of Persian descent, 29 years old, 5'7" and body measurement is 33-27-34. Personal-life wise - currently in relationship hoping it will lead to something more special soon. I have been fascinated with this forum for a while after stumbling upon it randomly.

I definitely consider myself to be a fashionista. In terms of fashion choices I definitely lean towards modern classic look with a little touch of funky elements. My favorite stores are Banana republic, Mexx and Lululemon.

I am a heavy tea drink and consider myself an addict of Japanese sencha tea. Others hobbies include gardening (we grow all years long here in Canada), various electronics DIY projects and household decoration. Cats are among my favorite pets.

Again, It's truly a pleasure to meet you all.

Hi!
Just a bit about myself....my name is Elena and I live in Texas. I'm 36, and stay home and help my brother take care of my mom who has Alzheimer's. My personal style (which I'm still trying to work on) is vintage, lots of pink, florals-especially roses-, old lace, ruffles, beautiful details like antique and vintage clothes had. I'm not exactly sure what my body type is but I think it's a rectangle - at least the last time I checked it was, supposedly. I know it can change with weight fluctuations. I'm a plus size, and 5'3". I love art, cats, reading, old movies, and tea parties, to name a few things, lol. I'm happy I found this site and it's nice to meet you all!
~Elena

I can't correct the above post, but it was pointed out that I said I was 17. I'm 37! That will probably make the whole most make lots more sense....

Hello!
My name is MaryAnne. I live on the coast of Maine with my husband of 33 years and two Siberian Huskies. I am blessed to have both of my adult children living locally. I recently became a GrandMimi to the happiest baby boy!
I am a first grade teacher, a mentor and a writer. We live near a national park, have a getaway place in the mountains and enjoy an active lifestyle. We spend a lot of time outside.
I am 5'2", but for a petite person, my legs are long and my bust is large. Quite a bit of my clothing is professional and practical. I like lean and simple lines. I wear a lot of modern classic styles and add an element boldness, or sass, with something unexpected. It might be a bold color, a statement piece of jewelry, an amazing bag, or a sassy pair of footwear.
Brands I am fond of are Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Cambio, Three Dot, Jill McGowan and Mellie.

Hi, I'm Tracy. 48 and sew a lot of my own clothes. I'm short and curvy so finding clothes that fit are a nightmare. No more crying in the dressing room, unless I'm jeans shopping. I live in an area where it's jeans and hoodies all the time. That's not my jam. I'm a dress and sandals kinda gal unless it's winter and then sweaters and boots rule.
I work at a university on the web team so, to be honest, I can wear whatever I want to work. I have to layer because we have no control over the temp in the office and can freeze or sweat depending on the day.

Hi I'm Jess and I was told to introduce myself so here I go... I'm 31 and from BC Canada. I'm 5'10, size 4-6 but 'curvy skinny' with a hourglass body shape. Shoulders: 38 Bust: 36. Waist:27 Hips: 38. Size 10 AAA feet. 36 inch inseam.

I have a non-degenerative form of muscular dystrophy and that presents some fashion challenges like very skinny arms, skinny legs, a leg that turns inward from the hip so my knee is facing my other leg instead of being straight (because my hip muscles are too weak to support it properly) and some curled toes.

Hi, I'm Maayan, a new jewelry designer from Israel. I design jewels for men and women from construction materials.
I've joined this forum to get feedbacks

would love to hear your opinions , my Instagram page is @metaltorks
Thanks!

Hello! I'm new here too. I am 24 years old girl and living in New Zealand who's into fashion and style things. Have a nice day!

Hi everyone,

My name is Julie Mendez. I am 25 single, latina living in Los Angeles.
I am a huge lingerie fanatic. My favorite color is pink and periwinkle.

My hobbies include digital photography, writing, sewing, styling and exploring the cities and states around me. I've recently started traveling and plan on adding more stamps on my passport.

If I could describe my style in 3 words it would be unkempt- polished-millennial. My color pallets have always consisted on (primarily) Black, white, athletic gray and nudes. I love lace, sheer, silk and leather. I love stripes and polkadot prints.

Think Comme Des Gascons meets 90's party grunge.

Also, like many of you, I love dogs. I am a mother to rescue.

Wow, I have really enjoyed reading the introductions!

I'm Laura, sixty years old, retired from two careers (computer programmer and fulltime mom), undecided about the third...

I'm just recovering from a *long* illness in which I spent most of my time in pajamas. Now I'm buying new clothes for the first time in years, all online, mostly from Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, Gap and Banana Republic. And Zappo's. It's a little strange because I'm nearly 20 years older than I was the last time I had the energy to think about how I looked. I'm more or less the same size and shape, but still, I'm 60. Trying to figure out what is and isn't appropriate now, and sad about the lost years.

I'm 5'3", a slim hourglass with wide shoulders and a long waist (tactful for short legs). I wear soft, drapey fabrics, always with a defined waist, in muted real colors. No black, white or gray except small doses in a print.

My hobby is singing, especially opera. I started four years ago, when I was really too sick, but I plugged away and with the return of health it's actually become very satisfying. I'm a mezzo-soprano, three notes away from losing the "mezzo".

My appetite for fashion (shopping, reading, putting together outfits) is voracious now that I'm back in the world of the living, and I'm very happy I've found this site!
