ETA - I’ve decided to return.

Sorry, I promise this is my last one for at least a couple days.

First, most importantly, do you have a preference in size here? First 2 are the larger size. Second 2 are the smaller size. I admit I want to keep the smaller for two reasons - the first already does the twirl around and that might bug me, and the smaller size shows a bit more shape over the bum. I did the sit text ok in the smaller, but please be honest if it looks too small.

Also, if you think I can do better on a different white skirt, just let me know.

Next - outfit lab to see if I could make this skirt work for an office setting. All outfit pics with this skirt show the smaller size as well. Some I like better than others. I would likely change up shoes too, but too lazy to bother today.

I do not love this skirt. It has a boxy look to my eye. It looks delicate. The proportions are wrong ... more 1/2-1/2 than 1/3-2/3.

Do you have a reason to wear this type of skirt in your current life? Could you wear it to work?

I actually really like this skirt on you, in the smaller size. I prefer the snugger and more shapely fit. I would perhaps try it with with a lighter coloured / white top? Just my 2 cents

I like the smaller skirt, but I don’t think the top pairings are quite right or doing justice to the skirt. The pattern mixing mixing is confusing to my eye because the prints are similar in scale and shape. The tops need to be shorter (per Sterling’s comment about proportion) or semi-tucked.

Maybe it’s just that I’ve seen you in the matching top, but I feel this is more of a two-piece dress, and the skirt would need a bit of work to make it work as a separate. The outfits you made look ok but not as amazing as this skirt could look. If you did buy the matching top I think it would be more versatile (with jeans etc). Then you’d have the ‘dress’ and a top that could be casualized as well.
Smaller size looks fine to me.

I prefer the smaller size. And if I were going to wear it to work, I’d go with a simple black or white shirt like the one in the size try one and throw a blazer or denim jacket on. Or as jules mentions a matching top, I’d just do that....

I have this same skirt, only in black. I posted on this skirt and received great advice and suggestions. You might look for that post under my name (and posts). Angie ended up saying that I should take this skirt to Nordstrom's and ask for help from a stylist. Like the others above, I think the skirt calls for a shorter top or a tucked in top. I would definitely keep the smaller size. I had the same issue and ordered two sizes. Clearly, the smaller size was the better fit. Show some shape. Happily!

Carla - I tried it with the two white tops I have, but neither worked well.

Toban - I don’t like the way it looks on me when tucked, and I don’t have many shorter tops. I’ve moved away from them so I don’t have to pull them down all the time.

Jules - the matching top is coming. I’m wanting it for other uses too. I really don’t want to purchase other tops, so if I don’t have what I need right now, I don’t see the point of keeping the skirt.

Kkards - I may have a blazer that works. I don’t wear toppers often due to the heat.

CJ - I understand I probably don’t have the best tops for this, and I have to decide if I want to spend more to get other tops. Thanks for reminding me of the other post.

Thanks Angie. Those are my favorite combos too. I’ve gotten away from shorter tops, which would probably be better than my longer tops.

It’s a beautiful skirt. But if you are looking for a versatile separate that works very well with your existing tops I don’t think this is it.
For my wardrobe, I don’t think every item has to be mix n match - I find I end up with a favourite outfit for most pieces and will repeat it often in a given season rather than remixing.

How does it look at the waist? I agree with others that this would look best with a short top - I'd say boxy and slightly cropped. That is in part for proportions and in part because shorter tops seem fresher this year. But, if that's not a silhouette you like, it might be hard to style. I think it might also need lighter colored tops than you've styled it with. Bright colors like Angie wears, or maybe even faded chambray.

The tricky thing with this skirt is that it falls in an awkward zone between dressy and casual. It will take some trial and error to find the tops that pull it in the style direction you want. For me that style would be "summer picnic." If it's too dressy, you might never wear it. I think it might even work with a cropped, striped tee, but that might pull it too casual and it would look discordant.

FYI I got this cropped tee to go with my back BR skirt just like this. It also came in black and pink. I have black too. I don’t know what the current stocks are, but sort of thing works well. I loved ehen8 tried to dress mine down a bit, FWIW.

Hah, Christina, that's exactly what I was picturing. I didn't realize BR had styled the black version with that striped tee. Incidentally I was stalking those BR cropped tees last month and they sold out so quickly - I wanted to try it in the store so I didn't order online. Oops.

Jules - I hear what you’re saying. Right now I think I need versatility more than anything.

Greyscale, Christina - i don’t like it tucked (on me), and I have no cropped tops, and though I like striped tees for dressing down, that wouldn’t be my primary usage. Button down tops also don’t spark any joy for me, and I don’t have any.

I’m going to return this skirt. I’m unwilling to chase this skirt with future purchases and I’m unwiling to tuck or style as it would be best suited. I’d also love some more light colored tops, but I don’t have as many currently as I would like. I’m going to put my money into something that works better for me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do appreciate them. I have a lot of clothes I feel good in, and don’t want to feel like I’m settling when I don’t feel my best in this.

Christina - if you remember, I’d been eyeing it in white since before I recommended it for you. I’ve got some uncertainty in future dress codes ahead, and I don’t want to commit too much money before I know specifics.
