Which side do you part your hair on?

I've always parted my hair on the left... or I want to say it naturally parts there. When my hair is long, I usually don't "part" it, but just kinda let it fall. On occasion I've done a right side part and I think it looks good, but it goes back on it's own. Now that it's shorter and a little asymmetric, I only have the one option. Then, I wonder whether my hair chose to part on the left or whether I conditioned it that way

I've read different things about what your hair part traditionally says about you, but I won't include them here so as not to influence anyone's response.

Left. My crown is located on the left. I can train my hair to part on the other side, but if I leave it alone it reverts to the left.

Right.

I think hair becomes conditioned to going a certain way over time.....so if you part on a certain side or sweep your bangs to a certain side your hair will eventually naturally fall that way.

Usually in the middle or slight left and I wear a fringe.

I part on the left, but I have to re-do it every time I wash. My natural part is in the center. I went a year with a very exact side part once - the hair was even growing at that angle - and it still naturally parted in the center when I washed it.

Mine parts naturally on the left so that's how I style it. It's easier than fighting it.

Mine naturally parts on the left, where my crown is. When I had very long hair though (waist length), it would often look thin on top because of how much the ends were weighing down the top of my hair. So when I cut it short, I asked the hairdresser if we could change the partition to get some of the volume back. Instead he said he'd give me a non-defined parting & some short layers up top. When I wash it, some of it will naturally fall to the left or right, but the layers mean some will just go wherever (especially towards the back, lol). I can get it to stay on either side if I part it when wet, but otherwise it prefers to grow according to my crown.

This is super interesting to me, because everything I've read says that statistically more men part their hair on the left, while more women part their hair on the right. And that women who part their hair on the left are viewed as being more masculine. So I'm wondering if we have a skewed sample here...

Also, does part stand for partition? That's new to me.

When I was a teen it was right down the middle. For the past 40 years it has been parted on the left.

A couple of years ago I parted my hair to the right and my DH and DD did not like it. Did that alter the way I looked?

Left. I used to switch it up from side to side (never the middle — I look horrible with a middle part), but I just gave in and kept it on the side it seeks out naturally. Now the asymmetrical cut even further reinforces it. But I try to part it slightly different from day to day — a little deeper side one day, and little more angled on another, etc.

I remember my sister (who owned a hair salon for over 20 years) telling me that parting your hair over your most expressive or wider eye (if you have asymmetrical eyes, which I do) is the most flattering method.

I switch it up. My natural part is in the center, so I'll just sweep one side or the other over. tbh most of the time the back just ends up going back to the center and the front ends up kind of messy and uneven (i don't blow dry so the part doesn't "set" quite as much as it would if I heat set it) but I don't mind. (My hairdresser does a zigzag part on me when she actually styles it, so I figure mine is just like the RATE version of that, lol).

I've worn mine all sorts of ways and I've switched back and forth. I was wearing a right part as I have a cowlick in my fringe that skews left, but then I found that my hair was beginning to grey near the part. I switched to the left and it has disguised the grey almost entirely.

I wore it parted on the right for decades, then my hairdresser suggested changing it. So I did. Been wearing it on the left for years now, and am thinking of switching back to right for a change.

Well the count is leaning overwhelmingly to the left lol. Sometimes I think the type of person who posts on an internet forum skews a certain way like remember when we had so many INTJs. But one would think hair parting would be representative!

I switch up my part, which is useful if I’m due for a color. The greys don't seem to come in evenly so a switch sometimes hides them better. I started asking my hairdresser to cut my hair with the part in the middle specifically for that reason.

For what it's worth, left was the typical side for parting when women's hair styles began to have parts. That is, by the 1930s. And most hats in the 30s and 40s were designed to be worn asymmetrically, on the right side of the head. There were a lot of center part styles and hats worn centered, as well as a few who parted on the right, but I think the left side was established as the default part. And right side for tilted hats.
