Which hair?

At the risk of this being read as "witch" hair, since my hair is very dark, I would like your honest opinions on how I wear my hair. Here are photos of me with three styles I have worn or am currently wearing. I mostly lurk on this forum, so I don't really deserve to take your time, but I really would enjoy if you'd play this game.

Do you think my hair is naturally straight or naturally curly?
Which style is the most flattering to my face (I always wear asymmetrical to distract from my face's asymmetry)?
Which is more "stylish"?
Are any or all of these inappropriate to my age (which is way up there, obviously)?
Should I face up to my years and go white?
Guess which style I am wearing now.

I love #1 with #3 following close behind. And no, I don't think you need to go white unless you want to.

I love #1. I am partial to the asymmetrical cut myself, obviously. I also have a very asymmetrical face.

I think that style does a great job of calling attention to your pretty eyes, and looks perfectly modern and age-appropriate. I say no need to go silver unless you want to. I’m not planning on taking that plunge any time soon, but I support anyone who does!

My fave is no 1 and the runner up is no 3. Can’t tell if your hair is naturally curly, but guessing it’s not. About getting white - it is entirely your choice what you feel for. I like the dark hair in these pictures, but if you are ready for a change, go ahead. There are no musts.

1. I think it is naturally straight. If I am wrong and it is naturally curly, I can't believe how much time you must be spending on it. IMO there would be better things in life to be doing, like interacting on the forum
2. Pic 1 most flattering and interesting.
3. Pic 1 most "stylish".

5. I think your dark hair is likely to be very bound up in your self-image. Having gone grey much younger than you ( started mid 40s) I think you would find it hard. I have a family friend from my childhood who is 84 and cannot let go of her dark hair. To me it seems crazy. But some things I do seem crazy, so each to their own.
Having said that, of course I think you should. But I think everyone should. Maybe then we could be judged in the same way as men. It would be a start.

I love #1 &3 equally. Less love for #2, imo I’d go shorter if I was going to embrace the curl. As for the color, i think it suits you. Nothing wrong with going grey, but nothing wrong wilth a little (or a lot) of color

I like 1 and 3 equally. The color is nice, I think you should keep it. I think you might be naturally curly. I’m guessing 3 is current (you’re wearing a sweater in 1 and it too hot for that!)

#1 is my fav,l guess that you might be curly and yes I think that you should embrace the silver it would look stunning on you.

No idea wether your hair is naturally straight or curly but I would work with it and not fight it. Honestly, I find asymmetrical styles a little jarring and distracting but you can ignore that information of course.

I think you're up for a change and while you look great, maybe you'd like to lighten up your maintenance and let a different style surface. How many years does hair color take off really? Aging isn't always delightful but it's a one time only event.

I like the straight bobs. As to going natural, I did it five years ago. I have friends who have and friends who haven’t. It’s a personal decision. I definitely like less maintenance!

I love asymmetrical and think #1 is beautiful on you. If you are curly, go for it because #2 rocks too IMO!

I love #1 on you. It looks sophisticated and chic, and a bit different, which is really interesting . If you are naturally curly and like to wear your that way sometimes , I think it would look great a la Shevia's style. Short with a long asymmetric bang. As to letting it go white? I bet you'll have that great silver white hair - lucky you!

I like #1 the best. The asymmetrical bob is very flattering to your face. I think it is a personal decision to go natural and up to you. Do what feels best and you can always change it.

#1 is beautiful on you. I think dark hair really suits you and the way you wear your hair, so I vote keep the dark colour unless the colouring is bothering you with the upkeep.

I think it is #2 right now and your natural curls would look great with white hair. But if you look at my profile shot you will realize I am a bit baised !

I love the first style. The last one looks a bit juvenile. I DON'T mean that it is inappropriate due to age, just that this style strikes me as a child's haircut, so for me it would look equally juvenile regardless of whether you were a late teen or older.

I'm with Shevia in thinking that the curls in 2 are natural to you. I also vote for your natural hair color. There's something incredibly lovely about a woman who is making the most of her natural look.

Shevia, You are the best guesser. The curls are natural and what I am wearing at the moment. I've had a Sassoon-type asymmetric bob of one length or another for at least 15 years. That's how much I like those 'dos. But my stylist tells me that my hair has actually gotten curlier. And recently I have grown really weary of having to flatiron it every single day, sometimes twice in a day if I am going someplace special in the evening. So, for now, we are playing with the curls. I've gotten mixed reactions from my friends who are used to seeing me sleek-haired. Some profess to love the curls. The ones who don't like it just stay silent because they are polite

I was also going to guess the curls are natural (as a curly girl myself). The natural curls might let you experiment with different lengths to see how the overall effect changes. Also there’s the potential for interesting texturizing hair products - your straight hair style was very dramatic and I bet you can find different drama with the curls.

I figured the curly look was your natural hair texture as well! Mine is exactly like that when I leave it to air dry. I can get it curlier if I use product and encourage it, but I rarely do that. I don't often style my hair ultra straight because it takes time and heat styling, and I don't like to put that much stress on it. But I've made peace with the wave/curl over the years, after absolutely HATING it when I was growing up. I now accept it as the way my hair "goes." Many days I simply blow dry the crown and the bangs just so they don't lay weird and let the rest do its thing. I do prefer my hair curly when it has a bit more length to it, rather than when it's freshly cut.

I think its great that you have options for how to style your hair -- it looks great curly or straight. I'm not quite as fond of the really defined curl and the volume at the bottom in the bob in picture #3 -- that look to me seems a little more retro/flapper inspired, which is not really how your style comes through to me. I quite like the sleeker look in #1, as it seems more modern to my eye.

Somehow letting natural curl do its thing can be really polarizing -- I've noticed that when I've gotten feedback on my hair here in the forum, some people express a strong preference for it straight, and others are adamant that they like the curl better. So I'm not surprised that you've gotten mixed reactions from your friends and family.

Ah. Well then my first thought applies, that I "couldn't believe how much time you must be spending on it" to get it straight. Well done for stopping that and embracing your natural curls! Now for natural colour?!

I would guess, you are curly, naturally, so after guessing, I looked through the responses, esp yours, and you are even getting curlier?

My two-bits: I would live as naturally as possible as flat-ironing eats up the clock and possibly your hair's health as well. You look great either way. Those gorgeous eyes and inner glow shine through.

As far as going natural in color: after years and years of highlighting my once naturally thick and straight auburn hair that then turned strawberry blonde and then threatened to go a blondish white, I finally pulled the plug and stopped highlighting (as it seemed like my roots were always growing out faster!). So now my hair stylist is only putting in a few strands of auburn/strawberry blonde for a little color. And I'm happy with it! Plus I recently cut my hair short (huge switcheroo) and I'm happy with it! But I was ready for both changes. That makes the difference.

My guess was that you are naturally curly, too, because I think it would be hard to replicate the look in 2 without at least a fair amount of natural wave. My first thought was, wow, all three 'dos are super cute on you! I would wear what you are in the mood for. They are quite different in feel. I've worn my hair straight in the past, and even if I thought it looked better that way (which I don't really know), I would not have the patience now to tame it all the time. So I've embraced the wave. I've also embraced the gray. I think you could go natural with color, too, but it's such a personal choice. I don't want to be unhelpful, but you will rock whichever look you choose. To me, your asymmetric bobs straight or with curl, dark or light, are all chic and stylish on you, and none are going to look wrong for your age (or any age, for that matter).

First of all, thank you for posting. You are worthy of time, support and compliments on here! I’m not sure if your hair is straight or curly, so I’ll guess straight. I think #1 is my favorite. It showcases your eyes beautifully. Whether to color or let nature take its own course and time is completely up to you! Age should not be a factor. I decided to transition from my dark dyed hair to my natural color 16 months ago. It looks like my own color has some silvery gray and platinum.....who knew? Anyway, I have no regrets. I was truly ready for the shift.

I guessed curly too! I like the curly look the best, it looks softer and more natural to me, but I am also biased since I started letting my hair go curly about 4 years ago. Although the straight is more dramatic to my eye, if that is what you are going for. Of those two I prefer the first.
