Where would you start your hunt for vintage jewelry

With my new job I would like to add a couple of vintage pieces to my jewelry collection. Any ideas where to start looking. One think I know I want b is a vintage watch. You think ebay is a great place or small shops.

Etsy also has good vintage jewelry and I think is easier to surf than eBay. And I'm sure there are good resale/vintage/thrift shops near you! Have fun. I love vintage jewelry.

My favorite source of vintage jewelry is church rummage sales (sadly, there are fewer of these every year) and other charity flea markets, yard sales, etc. If you take a little time to research the era (Deco, Mid-Century, etc.,) categories (bakelite bangles, Czech glass beads, Mexican silver, rhinestone brooches,) and designers that interest you beforehand, you'll be prepared to recognize a valuable piece, and possibly get it for a bargain. price. Estate sales rake your phone with you because you can google anything now a days. Small mom and pop thrift store the larger box stores are getting outrageous.

start with tag sales, estate sales, you will get the best deals there.

but get there as soon as you can before the dealers ☺

Ladywone, great advice on the phone for checking the value and not overpaying. Although for the right piece, I would splurge.
Here you can get some interesting pieces at pawn shops, particularly for watches, and Mexican and Native American jewelry. If you talk to an owner they might show you the cool stuff in the back room, where they break out the precious and semi precious stones in the less pretty pieces and sell to jewelers.

San and Staysfit I am looking for Art Deco pieces and things I would have found in my grandmothers closet. I love cameos San.
I have a book Inge recommended a while back that I need to get out and take with me. Plus my phone to google.
