I tried out this version of brown and blue. I think I would have liked the shirt to be a more saturated color, but others commented favorably today.
I rarely wear button down shirts and fuss with getting the collars to look decent. I wore the shirt in a semi tuck, which is hard to see from the photo. I’m not sure if I liked it or not.
I don’t think this was one of my best outfits, but I am willing to give it another try. Do you have any suggestions for improvements?

What a BRILLIANT outfit, Mainelady! You look stunning. I love the soft colours together just as they are and the pops of gold in your belt and jewelry, and the statement bag all take it to a new level of stylish. Love the printed shoes with this outfit too. One of your best outfits IMO. I missed your WIWs.

I really like this palette! I agree with Sisi about trying the shirt a little more open, without the necklace.

I really like your accessories - bracelets, bag, belt. Very posh and elegant.

I quite like it. Love the colors together and the accessories are great.I also struggle with button down shirts, the fuss factor is a pain but this really looks nice to me.

You look lovely in the outfit and I like the soft colours on you. Why this looks so great is due to your wonderful accessories. My only suggestion is to add the Burberry coat as a topper!

My first thought too - take off the necklace and open up the shirt a bit (either by popping up the collar or layering a cami underneath and opening more buttons). The Hermes belt steals the show

Lovely outfit on you and an interesting colour pairing. I like it! I think you could try leaving the necklace off too...if it would still feel like "you." Maybe open another button and wear the necklace inside the shirt collar if it doesn't?

Fabulous just as it is. I like your leopard flats and bracelets with this. I would forget trying to wear the shirt more open, at least when teaching. When a parent asks their child what they did today, with all the bending over, you don’t want little Roger saying that he looked at teacher’s boobies.

With the cuffs rolled, I'd like the front less buttoned up, too - quite a bit less. Maybe add a tank or cami for a 'third piece' and wear the necklace UNDER the button-shirt.

Thank you all! You really are the best at helping me feel better about my outfits, identify problems and best of all, offering solutions!
It makes me happy that so many of you like the color palette. It was inspired from this blog and the colors I am using to decorate our lake house: softer shades of brown, gray, aqua, teal and cream....with a tiny little zip of orange. Lately I am finding these colors make me very happy.

Sisi, Preppy Pear, La Belle, Lisa P, Suz, Bennett and Janet. Aha! Yes, I am too buttoned up.....looking terribly teacherish. I shall try unbuttoning, with a cami and the necklace underneath. LisaP, my Hermès is faux, but I’m glad you like it! Suz, yup, I think I need to wear a necklace to feel like me.

Thank you, Angie! I am surprised at myself, for being more interested in wearing button downs and less interested in wearing turtlenecks. I do have to fuss with button downs and have no time nor much patience for fussing. I’ll try to do better!

Joy, you know exactly why I am so buttoned up! No, I don’t want little Roger, or anyone else noticing things they shouldn’t! I will be wearing a high scoop neck when I unbutton and it will still have to pass the “no cleavage when bending over” test.
