When is it too cold to wear sandals/flip flops?

I live in nc and the weather is kind of weird. In the morning it would be about 38-47 degrees but later on in the day it would be in the 60s. I'm in school most of the day and am not outside much. So I was wondering if it's ok that I wear sandals to school because they're so comfortable haha. Or is the weather too cold?

I suppose this depends on how hot or cold you get. Also if you need to wear a coat in the morning then the flip flops might not look so good. It will be interesting to hear other peoples opinions though, as I more or less live in flip flops (thong sandals) as it never gets particularly cold here!

I agree that it depends on what else you are wearing. If you're wearing summer clothes, then sandals should be fine. But if you're wearing more wintery looking clothing, you might need to wear shoes that have a bit more fall/winter look to them.

I grew up in California where winters are super mild. Regardless, once fall hit, my sandals were put away and I switched to closed-toe shoes. Sixty degrees still seems a little chilly to be wearing sandals, in my opinion, and I always thought it looked silly to be wearing flip flops in November. Same goes with shorts -- when I see people wearing shorts in November, I find it peculiar.

There are many comfortable closed toe shoe options!

I usually wear a light jacket in the morning. And idk what kind of shoes look good with skinny jeans except for the gladiator sandals that I have. However I don't want to put my skinny jeans up for the fall/winter season. I do I have low top black converse but it doesn't really go with the rest of the outfit to me since I dress pretty preppy/casual and the skinny jeans and converse combination is rocker/skater style to me

I think flip flops do not ever look good in a school setting. I teach and see the students in them when the weather is 50. i could never quite understand why. They all say that it is because they are comfortable but so are bedroom slippers and I do not imagine anyone wearing them around. I do not know if that is what you mean by wearing sandals .I think 60 is too cold for sandals although they certainly look fine in warmer weather. If you have a preppy look I love the idea of a low vamp loafer.

I absolutely feel a ballet flat or low-vamp loafer would be better with the kind of outfits and in the sort of setting you describe. Ballet flats in particular would probably seem appropriate at either end of the temperature spectrum, and there's a huge selection of reasonably priced, fun options out there.

Sandals look rather strange in November unless it's a tropical climate or summer where you are. Besides ballet flats, how about a lower heeled pump or a pair of the cute booties that are out now, or tuck the skinnies into slouchy boots?
