Angie's accidental citron suit from today's blog post inspired me to ask if you have something that matches perfectly although the items have been bought separately and the first one was not even considered when the second one was bought.

The first accidental match I remembered were my scarf and old tee shirt, both in shades of red and navy. When I figured out that they matched, I've been wearing them together most of the time.

I've had this happen a few times, but I will have to search my memory and look at old photos. I do remember an off red skirt and a silk top bought at different times and places--together they made pretty outfit.

I had a pretty wild one happen this year. I've had the shoes pictured since at least 2009, and to fill out an order I picked up the tee this January (intended of course for summer wear). They even both have pairs of studs on them (the ones on the shirt are actually silvertone). The shoes aren't *quite* as washed-out IRL as in the pic.

This was a total accident. I had completely forgotten I had these shoes...it sure wasn't summer when I bought the shirt. I have nothing else that remotely echoes either item.

It's not as exact as other matchies, perhaps, but still...

I have one today! I bought the ring in Chile, and picked up this top at Marshalls just a couple of weeks ago. I thought the resemblance was pretty cool.

I actually have this happen a lot. I guess because I'm strongly attracted to a pretty consistent color palette.

My two piece dress that I plan on wearing to my nephews wedding. I posted about it here asking for shoe help. The top is from Banana Republic and I purchased it in March. The skirt is from NAS 2013. The match is perfect.

How did I miss this? Love the dots and stripes.

I have had the matching happen numerous times. Off the top of my head I think of some long sleeved black layering tees I bought (three at a time) paired with a black skirt I purchased 5 or 6 years ago. I just started wearing them together this past fall as the column of color with fun jackets and cardis.

I wore one today! My ink blue lace pencil skirt from AT and the same color rayon fluid tee from Mango. Love these together.

Oddly I also have matches in a very similar color, navy. I have a Lauren sheath dress and a Gap blazer. When I wear them together people think I'm wearing a suit.

My most recent one was a complete "accident" too. I had bought a light blue Zara bag (see photo below), and weeks later I fell in love with this light blue Esprit belt:

After a couple of days I realized they were exactly the same colour, so now each time I wear my accidentally matching accessories together I just have to smile about the lucky coincidence.

Great matches in this thread (yours, too-Ornella).

Will have to think aboput my last one, but over the last few years I have had this happening a lot---as I'm like others have said pretty much consistent in my color palette, but when happens always puts a big smile on my face and can't help but feeling even more happy with my wardrobe. It seems it really pays off to be picky and conscious about details like prints, textures, and hues.

I bought earrings that matched one of my rings maybe a year afterward. I didn't realize they matched for a few months and then only because I had them next to each other by chance. I had bought the ring on holiday and the earrings at home.

lyn67 :: I agree, it pays off to be consistent especially if your goal is minimal(is tic) wardrobe. It's also super fun when these matches just happen.

You reminded me of one of my old accidental matches, I bought a light blue cardigan and a year later sleeveless turtleneck (worn in my recent MaryK copycat outfit) and at home figured out that they were a perfect twin-set. I wore them like that all the time, so the cardigan got most of the beating and eventually had to be discarded. But the turtleneck I still have and when I wear it I always remember how nice that twin-set was, with its irresistible retro-vibe. I think I need another one soon.

This AT scarf bought 2 years ago and this Anthro tunic bought this spring. The colors are exact! When I noticed it I got brave and tried pattern mixing and now this is one of my favorite combos.

Like Janet I am drawn to the same color palette so I often have things that accidentally match. I can call to mind that in search of metallics I bought separately a belt, handbag, loafers and pumps and miraculously they all match despite their descriptions and online photos looking quite different. They also match my 4 year old gladiators! I now have a pewter accessory capsule. Couldn't find the belt online.

Peri that is a fantastic pairing.

I must say it happens to from time to time, especially with jackets (I love bold coloured jackets). I find that often the bold, solid colour will bring together elements that could otherwise seem a bit disconnected, and make them look like it was all intended.

Examples below are all unexpected matches.
