I don't even know what the trends are yet. High five, Rachy!

To the extent this thread has clued me in...I'm going to embrace lug soled boots (since I already own some and they're practical for where I live and walk); juxtapositions and pattern mixes; sneakers (in fall). I'd definitely definitely go for a sweater vest if I could find the right one. I love houndstooth so if it turns out to be a trend, I will be all over it.

This winter- two puffed sleeved tops and rib cage straight jeans.

When I wear one of these tops and jeans together I feel it is quite trendy….

I am still deliberating on lug soles. Pros - comfy and practical, cons - maybe too hard edged for my style, and longevity both in being able to resole and in style for me?

I am just excited to wear streetwear and boots purchased two years ago and never worn. I am looking forward to taking a break from running out in a washable trench thrown over washable clothes and paired with washable shoes, and then washing everything the second I get back like I just left a crime scene. This Fall I will be pairing light blue surgical masks with Fall 2019 looks.

Chunky knits, sherpa/fleece, quilting, and orange (to mix with olive, white & grey).

I got these Holden olive green fleece pants earlier this year. Would love to add some orange quilted item.

Rachylou - most of the major retail sites have "trend report" type stuff too. And Vogue.com. Of course what trickles down to a purchasable level is another thing!

I have less of an idea as to what’s looking particularly new this fall than ever. I see shackets everywhere ; I bought a plaid one last fall and barely wore it , but have a clearer idea as to how to style it now so am looking forward to unpacking it soon . I have picked up a long version too in a cream wool, and an excited for it too I picked up an oversized vest this summer in a cool hand-feel rayon knit and LOVE it , so plan on adding a wintery version to my wardrobe soon . I’d like to add one pair of trendier denim that is NOT high rise and wide leg- if such a thing exists , and will most definitely be buying some lug sole boots too ( probably 2 pair ) . I cannot believe I got rid of a great pair 2 years ago that would be bang on this fall - DUMB . If I send my credit card , can someone just buy me this stuff and send it to me ?

That orange puffer pic w H Bieber confuses me every time I see it - lol.

Lug sole boots and oxfords
Oxfords with sheer short socks
Saturated color
Vests (tailored and knit)

And I want a classic wool coat (not a trend, I know!!!)

Lisa P - I know - Is she a four arm mutant? Seems very impractical - I can see the empty arms flapping around and getting caught in car and elevator doors.

LIke others I dont even know what the trends are. I do have a desire to buy a tulle skirt and wear it with combat boots or the lug sole boots (I had to look up what these look like). Just not sure where I would wear this combination.

Ok this thread reminded me that I also really want to find a good pair of lug soled loafers - preferably not black. Will be excited to get into long pants and jackets but not there yet.

Right now I carry either a daypack or my backpack purse. For awhile I did crossbodies. Shoulder bags aren’t really my thing, but it’s not a long walk from the parking lot. It’s big enough to carry my three cans of diet coke. Hahaha. The work fridge is powerful. I bring extra to chill, lol

For us it’s Spring trends. I get our main fashion magazine again for the past 2 years as it changed editor from the one I found had “mean” content that put women down, and it stopped publishing at the start of the pandemic also ( it is called Fashion Quarterly, part of the NZ fashion landscape since 1980).
The Trending pages for us have:
“Boy meets girl: refresh your wardrobe with a touch of boyish charm
Let’s party: pastels, florals, dazzling detail
Modern boho: soft hues and relaxed shapes
Flower power: season’s best blooms
Ray of sunshine: a page of yellows oranges and lime
Form and function: heavy-duty utility inspired chic”
None of this looks new to me? As per Miranda Priestly- “Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking…”

I see some Spring 2022 collections have been shown… Jenni, do you look ahead like that or to what was shown for the current year? I have to admit I don’t look that far ahead…

I think in the magazine they do look ahead, so the Southern Hemisphere sort of follows the Northern but not entirely, some of our well known designers just do their own thing from in their own heads and they are popular enough in our country and sometimes internationally in a niche sense that they are leaders rather than followers. Obviously since in the traditional Northern fashion calendar some of the stuff is a good 6 months ahead of when it comes out for you that makes it just the right time for us, and maybe smaller operations could get ideas and bring some things out more quickly ( I don’t mean copy them, but be inspired).
I know on my last trip to the US in 2013 to the Bay Area the number of compliments and queries I got on my clothes was astounding- and comments of “You’re ahead of us”- which I don’t think I was, you know I’m not a trendsetter! I suppose what I wore was just different.

Hmm, I am never quite sure what the trends are - some are different, while some things are perennial every fall/winter season (knits in some variation, black, some form of boots). From what I can gather, these are the "trends" I will be indulging in this season:
* Puffers: This seems to have been trending for years, but I found a coat that is a slimmer silhouette, the perfect length for me and has a functional hood (too many hoods are huge and don't stay up)
* Saturated colors (I always tend toward jewel tones, so that's nothing new, but I added hot pink/fuchsia to the mix)
* Animal prints - I still see this listed as a trend, although it seems to have been trending for years now. Regardless, I have an animal print coat from last year.
* Midi dresses and sleeves - again, I don't know if these are truly a trend, but it was almost impossible to find a dress with sleeves for a while, and I love that I can find them now. Likewise with slightly longer lengths. I do a lot of moving around and crouching while teaching, so I need a slightly longer hem to stay comfortable.
*Daytime sequins: Is this a trend? Regardless, I am all about the sparkle.

Trends I will NOT be indulging:
*Cropped tops - I am over a certain age and have wobbly bits, enough said.
* Sweater vests: I love them on others, but cannot see them working for me
*Varsity style jackets: I work in education, and students wear varsity jackets.
* Wide legged denim or trousers: I have always been unsuccessful in finding a way to make them work for me. I find myself resembling a walking feather duster, so I will enjoy this on others.

… I don’t trust the old usual suspects anymore for trend reports. I wait for Angie these days. There was a time when what magazines showed lined up with what I saw in the stores, but this doesn’t seem true anymore. My Nordstrom is filled with new to me designers that I’ve certainly never seen online or in a magazine. Maybe I don't read the right ones now?

I want to try the dramatic sleeve trend. Examples below. Also a pair of black boots. Similar to these .I tried to buy them during NAS but they sold out of my size. I am looking forward to fall!

Sloper, if I can’t decide on a raincoat, I’ll have to try that approach. If I get bike grease on a sleeve, I can just switch to a different one.

Rachylou, the subtheme you’ve started of what trends are/who decides them is interesting; I’m surprised by your position on it.

Yeah, no Fash. I stopped buying Vogue a long time ago. The one I still subscribe to - I thought it was Vogue, but turns out, lol, it’s the Netherlands Elle. I don’t even pay attention to Refinery29, which I was pretty addicted to. Nothing lines up as far as I can tell - not the magazines with each other with the bloggers or with store buyers and so on. And the mags keep getting thinner and thinner. And the stores emptier. The only item right now that I maybe can recognise as ‘new for fall’ is the sweater vest. I’ve seen it here and on one list that came up in my ‘googling’.

Somehow all of this year's autumn trends seem the same as last year's: Wide pants, vests, lilac, bright saturated colors, odd shoes are the ones that stand out to me. For fall I am trying out a puffy sleeve top/ vest combo thing that's not in my usual wheelhouse.

I am working on a trends post.

I feel like the puffy sleeve thing has been going for a while now and I’m finding it a bit tired, or maybe it’s really just that it’s getting hard to find a cute top without big sleeves!

Not just you, Janet. I am really tired of the puffed sleeves now, too. For a while, it seemed like every top in Target had puffed sleeves (back when that was almost the only store open that carried clothing). I guess it wasn't so much the sleeves that bothered me, but the combination of the sleeve with other details that made them feel juvenile. That Little House on the Prarie look...I'm still seeing some of it.

Yes, Khris! Puffy sleeves + ditsy florals or ruffles or a cropped cut or a wide scoop neck… Just not my jam. Plus not easy to layer with jackets for cooler weather.

I think that will be a great look for you, Lisa. I've always enjoyed a good crazy sleeve And yes, it seems that exaggerated footwear is trending , again. Shoe silhouettes seem to go in and out of "currency" very quickly - which makes the whole thing exhausting. I'm completely over pointy toe boots but am hesitant to get rid of the few pair I have left - because I seem to change my mind too quickly lately.

I look forward to Angie's trend post and suppose it will be easier to answer after having read that one.

No pressure or anything on the trends report, eh The Cat?

No pressure. Simply referring to Angie's comment.

I think you are ahead of the curve ChewySpagetti ! I haven’t wrapped my head around the trends yet ! I look forward to Angie’s post.

Cat2 lol
I went shopping at two of the only stores around me and I got a pair of platform oxfords and a pair of snake print boots.. I am pretty sure they are Fall 2019 trends
I will be rocking them with my new love the N95 Duck bill/ platypus masks I purchased . I have heaps of lovely Johnny Was masks that I wore last year but now I am just embracing the duck bill

Since moving to California (which granted, was only like 6 months before the pandemic), I've wanted everything to be as simple and easy-breezy as possible, but I kind of love the complexity and artifice of dark academia. We just don't have a super-long tweed season, ya know?
