I’ve been pondering for a few days what to wear for an art event tomorrow evening. It’s being held at a hotel ballroom in DC. I haven’t seen details on health protocols but I’m assuming masks will be required. I have no idea how heavily or lightly it will be attended but it’s an honor to be included (top 20 entries out of over 700), and since I only live 45 min away, I want to take advantage of the opportunity and be present with my work.

It has a distinct slant towards presenting work to a corporate clientele, not individual art collectors. My instinct is to go a little less funky, a little more professional. But of course I don’t want to lose my personality, especially since we will likely be masked up.

I’m pretty good at dressing for these occasions but sometimes get a little stuck. I was thinking of the new tulle plaid skirt with simple black boots (comfortable ones with low heels because I expect a lot of standing), a black tee, and the black military jacket. But maybe I should go with something like my rust Theory trousers and similar jacket/top/boot combo. Part of me wants to wear nice trousers with the silver Stella sneakers.

Just thinking out loud, really. But it got me wondering, what is your approach when you are not totally sure of how everyone will be dressed for a particular occasion?
