That is an AMAZING shot!!

Janet - When else are you ever going to get funky enough except when going to an art event that you you've been recognized for. Where something that makes you FEEL FAB!! Yes DC is conservative, but I always notice those that stand out.

Love all your photography that I've seen and this atypical one made me smile.

Go as an artist - it has a mystique.

Beautiful picture !
I want to see the cool blazer with the tulle skirt

Stunning photo and either look would be fantastic - go in what you feel on the day....

Beautiful shot! I don't have much new to add, but will chime in with those who are encouraging you to wear something that makes you feel beautiful and strong and confident -- whatever that may be on the day of.

I couldn’t have said it better than Carol—wear what makes you feel most confident for the event. Fabulous photo!

Thanks so much, everybody!

I’m leaning towards the Z&V blazer with pants of some sort — I will be doing a fair bit of carrying and moving stuff around, and pants will be easier for those tasks. But I think hubs and I need to schedule a date night so I can debut that skirt!

What a stunning photo and no wonder you were honored! And congratulations! Definitely would go with an I am an artist look rather than something conservative. I imagine the corporate people would be disappointed otherwise - don't they all secretly dream of being the artist ? The Z&V blazer sounds good.
And Lesley I love your parenting/life advice.

congrats!! thats fantastic and sounds like a great opportunity to show your work! I know the challenge so well, as the fancy events I typically attend are gallery shows. you want to look cool, but professional....I would stay funky and creative! Even the corporate buyers expect artist to be, well, artsy! and true to your edgy style. I would not expect to see you in a too simple lbd, or bright, funky colors...

you always look polished, and I agree pants/jeans with your Z&V cool jacket will give a great style and edge, and the IG post link is smart business....people will notice....comfy shoes are a must!!!!
I remember years ago wearing some gorgeous Italian, classic knee high leather boots with 4" heels to a gallery walk...(in my 20s when I would still wear heels) and by the end of the night I almost had to walk barefoot my feet hurt so much.....

Wear what feels right to you, but I’m always partial to your iridescent vest. Memorable.

Incredible photo! The blazer is a wise choice as you know you feel totally fab in it.

Janet, having seen your amazing and stunning wildlife photography (on your website) I only disagree with your self description as not a wildlife photographer.
Congrats on earning your spot in this show.
I also thought you should wear some of your memorable jewelry.

Thanks, everybody! I grabbed some quick photos on my way out yesterday. I dressed rather quickly and relied on gut instinct and mood to pull this together, and I felt occasion appropriate and comfortable all evening!

I wore my AG Angel very dark wash bootcut jeans, the Z&V blazer, and an old sleeveless top from Vince Camino that only gets worn a couple times a year, but I love the print so much that I don’t mind. It’s a bit long and tunic-y, not my best length, but it works either under a topper or with a very tonal, low contrast bottom such as these jeans. Finished it off with my old but still beloved Modern Vice blue stingray booties (low heel and well proven for comfort for years so they were good for the four hours of being on my feet), silver Kate Hewko ring, and dangly silver leaf earrings from Mexico. Not pictured is my silver Milly tote, which I often use when I’ll be carrying extra stuff. And my mask, of course.

The event was a lot of fun and I got great response to my work, as well as lots of compliments on the blazer, and the ring got noticed too!

Looks great and glad it went well Love the print on the top!

Great choice! I can see why you love the pattern on that top, and it works sooo well with the blazer and jeans. I'm glad to hear the show went well. The new ring is such a great way to add an extra bit of 'arty' vibe.

Stunning all around!

Love your final outfit - such as stunning blazer, and the booties complement it very well. Glad to hear the event was a success!

I'm super late, but Janet, you looked spectacular! Perfect outfit. LOVE your photo. Congratulations on being chosen, and on this honour!

KILLER GORGEOUS! A fantastic look, and very pleased you had a great night and response. Exquisite work

Fantastic outfit, perfection! Love everything about it. The top works soo well with the blazer and jeans. Boots are great here too. You look stunning gorgeous and cool at the same time. Congratulations again and glad the event was a such a success!

Perfect choice- and a glorious photo!!

Well played! The look was you and brilliant, as it could have gone with almost any event atmosphere.
You know I love those birds! Congratulations.

Love love love the photo and your outfit. You have such effortless style. Unrelated note but I really loved the silver Stella trainers on you from your shopping trip post. I didn't so much care for them on the stock photos but with you modelling them, I am now very envious. I have silver Elyse sandals but not a silver trainer...maybe I need them *laugh*

I am late to this but I’m glad it went well. Great outfit and great work!

Such an honor Janet. Outstanding all around. Congratulations.!

FAB!
Hits all the right notes, pulled together and polished but not corporate.

Congratulations on the opportunity, Janet - what lovely *wildlife photography*, too (yes, I'm also inclined to agree it very much counts in that category!)

I'm glad you went with something that felt like 'you' (artsy) but was also practical for the event (trousers). At the end of the day, the outfits that make us the happiest are usually the ones that honour both ourselves & the space that we will be occupying - you went with your gut that being OTT but impractical would make you feel miserable on the day, yet so would looking like corporate staff
