What shoes and accessories should I wear?

I am going home in 3 weeks time to have my daughter christened. I have just had this dress made (copied from a Ted Baker one I bought earlier in the year). The colour does wash me out slightly but I will have 3 weeks in the sun before the big day and am sure to have a decent tan. Anyway getting to the point I have no idea what kind or colour of shoes to wear with it. I have some nice gold strappy sandals but thought that perhaps something contrasting would be better or would a shoe rather than a sandal be best?

Also I want my Daughter and myself to sort of match if you know what I mean so here is a picture of her dress and shoes.

What a beautiful dress. It's a neutral colour so any colour accessories would go with it from the gold sandals you mentioned to say a red. It's quite a statement dress so personally i'd go quite plain with accessories and make the dress the star x

Gold sandals seem more evening than christening to me. I'd go with a nude kitten heel or a color.
The two outfits are gorgeous and you will certainly both look beautiful!

Chris I think you are probably right, the gold ones do look very dressy. I think I will have a look for something more like day wear.

I also agree with Chris and think a nude/tan platform shoe would look fantastic.

Gorgeous! That dress is incredible and looks lovely on you; I'm jealous! I'd keep the accessories fairly simple and definitely no necklace since you have a lot going on around your neck and upper chest with the dress. Maybe a simple gold cuff bracelet and some gorgeous shoes - gold sandals can be "day" and "christening" depending on the style. If you feel washed out, a good blush and lipstick can serve to brighten you, no problem.

Here is a picture of the gold sandals with the dress. Excuse the mess of my hair! I thought that bangle and earrings might work with it rather than a necklace as it would be too fussy like you said.

looking at this picture again I am thinking it doesn't quite look right, I'll have a look for more options if I go out today.

I think that a simple necklace would actually help keep the focus up where the detail of the dress is. If it were me, I'd wear a chunky pearl bead choker and shoes that were heeled but as close to your skin tone as you can find.

I noticed that there is a lot of pearl effect jewellery in the shops just now so something like that would be easy to find. I have cream almond toe heels but thought they looked a bit too samey iykwim?!

Try them on and post a pic. If you get shoes very close to your skin tone, then they sort of disappear and leave a very long leg line and allow the focus to stay up.

if you think nude may be too samey, try the pearls with black accesories for a very Chanel inspired look.

RoseandJoan I think you have possibly nailed it with this suggestion. I hadn't even considered black but after seeing the Chanel collection I think it could work really well. I have black shoes which I will try and post a pic soon, I would buy new ones but al least this would give the general idea. So do you thin pearls with black shoes and bag, or also blackish necklace? I am going to have my hair up so possibly blackish stud type earrings would be nice?

I definately think a black handbag and shoes would work. I would keep your hair up and for practical reasons the black studs sound great. I do not fancy having my earlobes tugged during the ceremony and having to apologise to the official for swearing. For the rest of the jewellery I would be tempted to mix black beads, clear crystals and pearls.

It would be interesting to see if the others agree.

I have just got back from morning of shopping trying to find the black shoes and accessories to match this dress. I bought shoes and matching bag from Ninewest but I am really not sure about them. I have tried them on with the dress (necklace is one I already had but I won't wear it as its got gold in it and the bag hardware is silver). I feel that they are a bit clumpy, they have a hidden platform and quite a high heel too. I am now having second thoughts about the whole outfit as it appears that I have lost a bit of weight and the dress seems a bit big now! arghh!

Wasn't the best morning shopping ang I got home to find my baby girl has a huge bump on her head from falling over! Be honest if you think they should be returned they will be promptly!

I hope Thea is okay, it is horrible when they have a fall.

I think you may be right and a sandal may look better than a shoe, however it is by no means a disaster. I think you have definatley lost weight since the first photos were taken.

I have also had a bad mornings shopping. I set out to buy jeans and came home with just the belt I posted earlier. Double buggies and summer sale rales are not a match made in heaven.

As Angie is back today I am sure she will give you the right guidance with the dress.

The dress is lovely for the occasion. Love the shoes and the bag, but i'm not sure about the necklace... because the dress has already a big colar, maybe if you wear instead nice earings and a matching bracelet...

I agree with rute. The black accessories look great with the dress, but the necklace bothers me. Are you opposed to earrings? Instead of the necklace and with your hair up, I'm seeing black crystal chandalier earrings to frame your face.

I had a look at some earrings today but the problem is the holes in my ears are very close to the edge and I can't wear anything too heavy, if that makes sense?! I will keep looking to see if I can find ones that aren't too heavy, but in a black colour like suggested. I will ask my husband to look at everything together in the flesh and see what he says (not normally much use right enough).

I actually really like the black with the dress. It looks very elegant and classy. At first when I saw the initial picture I was thinking you should go with a nude or gold shoe but I really think the black is it. I have a baby girl too and I love that little dress and that you all will sort of 'match'. i think you will both look absolutely stunning! If you feel the dress does not fit as well as you would like, can you get it taken in?

Btw, I think I know why the black shoes look so good...your hair color! I remember Angie blogging about sometimes shoes look good that sort of match our hair color.

I have just re read my last post to you and feel it did not convey what I felt about your new purchases. I personally love the shoes and bag, I really like how the cross over on the shoes matches the cross over on the dress.

What I was trying (unsuccessfully) in the last post to say, is that if you would feel more confortable in a sandal then go for a sandal. It is a special day for the whole family and you want to feel your best.

I think a slight tweek to the jewellery and you will look stunning. I think the others are right and you should lose the necklace to expose your beautiful shoulder line. I think bracelets or earings or both would be better.

Is Thea ok now after her bump?

agrace - how old is your little girl? I am so looking forward to seeing Thea in her little outfit, we had a dress rehearsal the other day and she looks so so cute!

RoseandJoan - Thea is ok after her bump she has a horrible bruise that everyone keeps asking about but apart from that she is fine.

Update on the shoes - my husband hated them with the dress!!! He agreed that black looked nice but they weren't quite right, so they have been returned.
You might all think I am a bit mental but I have now bought plum coloured shoes and matching bag. I have yet to try them on with the dress so no idea yet what it looks like. If they are ok then I will look for same coloured earrings and maybe braclet to finish the outfit off. Hope they work, I am so fed up looking for the perfect shoes for this dress, and finding loads of random shoes that I love but can't buy lol!

MMmm, plum and cream sounds good enough to eat and I imagine will work beatifully in transitioning your wardrobe for Autumn.

I got the shoes from Zara they had them in plum or navy suede. I thought plum would be warmer and also be funky with jeans etc afterwards.

Seriously need to excuse the mess of my livingroom, hubby is playing in tournament tomorrow so the clubs have been brought home much to my dismay!! everything else is my mess lol!

The colour combination is perfect and the shoes are more elegant in style in my opinion. I think the smile in the picture says it all you look very confortable with this look. The second picture shocked me, never, ever stand on your beautiful dress again.

By the way I have a daughter Teah, which is a bit of a coincidence.
