I just received my Athleta barrel pants in olive and have been styling the, with different shoes and tops. What do you think of them? I sized up for breeziness and because I liked the effect. Janet was right to recommend pants!

Ivory top is Madewell.

These look great ! I wish I could justify another pair of summer pants but I just can’t . Ugh . I’ve ordered a couple of things from Athleta ( we don’t have stores here in Canada ) and have had good luck so far .

LJP, we have Athleta store at the Eaton’s. It replaced Massimo Dutti store to my huge disappointment. Thera are more stores, I think in GTA. I don’t know for sure, I don’t shop there.

Ah, I stand corrected! That's too bad about the MD store though. Athleta works for me for my workwear needs - but now that I think about it, there was one recent purchase that really disappointed me ( a long sleeved top) but I wore it and therefore couldn't return.

Looking good, Kyle! Every outfit is cool, casual and perfect for our climate. The orchid color is gorgeous on you and it looks like you've found the perfect navy top -- versatile! For me, the standout outfit is the barrels with the ivory Madewell top. In fact, I've got it on order! I hope you don't mind if we wind up twinning from two different parts of the Valley

Kyle, they look so good on you! And they seem versatile since they work so well in all three of those outfits.

I will admit, I went ahead and ordered the olive color you’re showing here, and the navy to compare. I love the pair of olive chinos I have, but they’re a totally different style and these could be really useful for summer, possibly even travel. Olive bottoms work well for me as they seem to pair well with my color palette in tops. Navy could work too, but I personally find it a little more challenging to work with because I wear so much blue in tops and if the shades clash — for instance a more purple-blue in the top but a greener blue on bottom — it doesn’t work for me.

I figure I’ll try these while a silhouette I enjoy is trending. If the world goes back to skinnies soon (please no!), I’ll be well stocked with what I enjoy wearing!

LJP, Yes! Athleta has become a great resource for me to find the type of casual clothes that work for my retired lifestyle. Some are athleisure, but not all. It helps that they carry tall sizes, which I usually require.

Lisa, Thank you. I’m not an expert at styling and often struggle, but I’m trying to broaden my horizons as I work to adapt my closet for a retired lifestyle.

Angie, I greatly appreciate your feedback. Dressing for our Arizona climate isn’t always easy. It’s tempting to default to the loosest t-shirt and shorts I can find, but that doesn’t make me feel fab! I’ve made it a priority to find summer tops that are 100% cotton because they are the breeziest for me.

Jaime, I had forgotten just how versatile olive actually is. Seems like it works with just about everything.

Laura, thank you for the feedback! You have such a good eye and are always so helpful to me. I have learned so much from you! I also like the ivory and olive the best, but didn’t really expect it to work (I thought it would be drab).

Sharan, have you tried the barrel pant silhouette? I’m sure they would be great on you. Hair is a work in process. Back to my short style after
experimenting with longer looks for a few years.I don’t like to fuss with it!

These are great on you! Did you order talls? I like the effect of the sizing up...it works! Also, wow, that orchid top is sensational on you. But each outfit is fabulous. They are easy to dress up or down.

Suz, thank you for your feedback and I’m glad you like the barrel pants. I went back and forth a lot on the sizing! In the end I did not get these in a tall size because the rise worked in the regular size, and I felt that this length was better and breezier than something longer for summer wear. I love the orchid top because it’s light as a feather for our hot summers. I’ll definitely start incorporating more of this color as I can.
