What Is Your Poison Eye Item?

I have not seen any mention of poison eye items lately. I may have just missed them, though. I have not had a poison eye for any item or style in a long time but for some reason I now have one. In the past year or so buttons on the shoulders of sweaters drive me crazy. My reaction is extreme which is weird. If I pick up an item I drop is like it is a hot potato and if I see one I have to look away. I think it is because these tops remind me of baby clothes. Why are buttons put on shoulder seams anyway. And one shoulder is even worse.

Do any of you have such reactions?

Nothing comes to mind immediately although I dislike buttons on pants—particularly sailor pant style. I don’t like exposed button flys on me either but I like them on others. I used to dislike white shoes but now I like them—I think my style horizons have expanded! I kind of wish there were more things I disliked—so I wouldn’t feel the need to add new things to my wardrobe!

I prefer clothing/jewelry with silver instead of yellow gold if applicable, I don’t know why but yellow gold just puts me off on looks, only white gold for jewelry which I rarely wear to begin with. Silver and white gold just seem polished and “new” looking to me where yellow gold looks vintage and I prefer modern over vintage look.

Kelly, yes, buttons can be such an issue.

Jess, yellow gold looks better on my skin tone where my daughter wears white gold much better.

Now that’s sorta interesting. I can’t say I go for shoulder buttons on sweaters either. If I thought about it, my hair would get caught in them, but really it’s too Put A Bird on it for me, or the way I’d do it would be. That was the old me. I don’t know that there’s anything in particular that’s bothering me right now... except people wearing short shorts in the dead of winter at midnight hugging their beer can when it’s raining and unable to find their Uber when it’s parked right there blocking traffic...

Interesting, I like buttons on shoulders It adds a little oomph and interest to otherwise boring cuts.
As for poison eye, socks in sandals/ballet flats where recently mentioned. Very low waisted jeans is another.. although I do see them more and more frequently at retail now!

I can't think of any poison eye items right now. I am not a fan of white footwear or white jeans for me but I don't dislike them on others.
I like button details on sweaters and sailor pants. I have my eye on a sweater with buttons on one shoulder. My Jesse Kamm Sailor Pants have buttons and I love that detail.
I like both silver and gold jewellery. Gold tones look better with my skin but I find silver jewellery is often more interesting to me.

Puffed sleeves. Those make me twitch. My puffed sleeve aversion long predates YLF. Nothing else really springs to mind, mainly because YLF has broadened my style preferences and shaken loose my style pet peeves.

Sock boots, particularly with spindly little heels. Not sure if you’re asking re for me or for others, but that covers both. I know some people worry their calves are too skinny, so they like them; I generally avoid any comment where sock boots are involved.

I really can't think of anything either at the moment. And it's funny, I absolutely love buttons on the shoulder part of a jumper, top or coat (buttons on sailor pants too). That's another fab thing about Do Your Own Thing, we can all wear what we love

I don't have any poison eye items, but I do have poison fabrics. I refuse to buy anything in viscose. It crushes horribly and needs to be dry cleaned - my two pet hates. I like crease resistant clothing and I like to wash (in water with soap) my clothes, as then they feel clean and are not adding to chemicals against my skin.

Not a poison eye, but no heels higher than 7cm for me. I simply cannot happily walk in a higher heel and I like to walk fast as I am always running late!

For me it's knits with cutouts in the armholes (cold shoulder, I think they're called); bonus points if that piece also has ruffles on the front. If it's cold enough to wear a sweater, shouldn't you want your arms covered?? They are wildly popular in my area...

What an interesting question, and I actually don't think I have poison eye for anything at the moment ... at least nothing that springs to mind readily. Maybe super-status-y looks, if I think about it - like head-to-toe Lululemon with a big LV tote and Tiffany jewellery and a Canada Goose coat? But this is less about the look per se and more about the statement behind it ... although even this falls into my 'live and let live' bucket ...

High waists, especially in pants.
I like any shoulder detail though. I've convinced myself it broadens my narrow shoulders.

Hmm, interesting question. I agree with nemosmom, cold shoulder looks just don't do it for me. And it's kind of funny, too-short pants have always been a poison eye thing for me (funny because as a petite person I usually have the opposite problem), maybe that is one reason I haven't jumped on board yet with the long-but-not-long trend. I know Lands End catalogs always have the pants too short and it drives me nuts...

Mine would currently have to be shirts with knotted tails at the waist. My eye likes neither button blouses nor knit tops with these stylings. I could have a little tolerance for ordinary shirt tails tied up, but the kind that’s designed in a shape to do that- nah.

Mine is khakis (actually khaki colored ones) and has been since I saw them on everyone when I was a teenager in the 90’s. I can admit now they’re fine for other people but I still won’t go for them. (Olive pants are good, and brown, though I’m not likely to wear brown pants myself.)

I don’t like buttons on shoulders too, but it is not really a poison eye, more for practical reasons - I always manage to snag those buttons with my shoulder bag.
And regarding my poison eye - it is a way too short hemlines in professional settings. I just don’t understand this.

The little half-arsed ruffles they put on tops and dresses, sometimes in weirdly random places. I think that if a clothing designer or manufacturer is going to put a ruffle on it, they should commit to it. Make it glorious!

I detest baby doll-ish tops, or really anything that vaguely smacks of infantilizing a fully-formed woman in all her glory.

And faux wrap tops and dresses because most of what I’ve seen in stores in recent years looks like half an effort. There’s a “good enough” mentality, visual spaghetti thrown at the wall.

I don't get the cold shoulder sweaters either-seasonally confused!

I don't know if I have poison eye to an particular item at the moment. However, when I see a woman tugging at a too short skirt or dress in a futile effort to cover her nether regions, it drives me bonkers. It doesn't matter what you wear, but if it appears you're having a fight with your clothing, it's never a good look.

Overly rigid hairdos,the gravity defying ones that are held in place by an ozone destroying amount of hairspray on women of a certain age(ok ,my age) and anything polyester especially if it’s shiny.
