Oh, I am glad I am not the only one with shoulder button poison eye. It is interesting what triggers that feeling we get when something screams at us.

I have several. Puffy sleeves and most ruffles - not sure why but I just don't like them. And anything with high contrast patterns or tiny floral or similar patterns.

Tex, puffs and ruffles are so not you. That's why the poison eye. I have a hard time with them, too, at least on me. Although I tend to agree with LBD:

"The little half-arsed ruffles they put on tops and dresses, sometimes in weirdly random places. I think that if a clothing designer or manufacturer is going to put a ruffle on it, they should commit to it. Make it glorious!"

A glorious ruffle is one thing -- a little teeny one is another. I have poison eye for the latter and some attraction to the former. At least on others -- they are harder for me to wear.

I don't have much in the way of poison eye except for extreme seasonal confusion. High heeled sandals with parkas -- that always gets my blood boiling.

Not poison eye exactly, but since you mention buttons - black and white plastic buttons often look terribly cheap to me. Far prefer a 'tortoiseshell' type button. So a prominent black button on a double-breasted coat or something can ruin it for me. Smaller buttons on cardigans etc are easier, but still prefer some kind of finish other than plain solid black or white which just scream CHEAP PLASTIC to me. Rationally I know all non-metal buttons regardless of colour are basically made of the same cheap ol plastic...

The so called cold shoulder thing....especially since I've seen the "holes' anywhere from elbow to neckline....but seldom on the actual shoulder. Won't wear it and can't wait til it is gone!!

Baby doll anything, converse high tops ( great on others - I've worn cheap versions at Physical education in middle school ), apron ruffles (school again - uniform), 100% polyester anything. Super sweet styles - girly to the max. Lurex.

My motto is live and let live, but sky-high heels make me wince.

Bloomers. One of the designers on Project Runway made a pair for the most recent episode and I just shuddered. Maybe it's just the bad memories of our godawful physical education uniforms from junior high school, but I just can't with bloomers.

I'm pretty tolerant of a lot of looks I'd never wear myself, but a couple things never fail to bother me: prominent branding and logos, and ill-fitting footwear (toes hanging off of sandals, heels that are only comfortable if they're several sizes too big, etc).

3/4 sleeves...drive me crazy...give me a long sleeve and let me determine what to do. i guess i just like being in control, but really, i can make a long sleeve 3/4 but i can not make a 3/4 sleeve long

Kkards, I hear you. Not a poison eye for me on other people, but definitely a strong preference.

I love 3/4 sleeves because they make perfect long sleeves for my short little T Rex arms!!

Plaid shirts are difficult for me but I have seen others rock them. Too many teenage connotations.

Dirty Ugg boots make me cringe! Luckily, I don't see this boot style much these days.

Loafers. I just don't like them.

My personal poison eye is any pants other than full-length. I hate, on me, the look of ankle pant or hems swinging higher than the instep. They look like flood pants on me but on most other people, they look great, although in our weather often very seasonally confused. I kinda stopped buying pants for a while when literally no pants came in long enough inseams for me (and I only need 32). I also am not a fan of "cold shoulder," big flowy full sleeves, and Uggs boots, which are still wildly popular here. I also have poison eye for flip flops.

Like JAileen, I cannot stand plaid that is mismatched at the seams.

Clothes that look dirty, wrinkly , ill fitting , or sloppy !

Skulls. I simply don't understand why anyone would want to wear pictures of the sad remnants of dead humans. To me, this shows a lack of respect for the dead as well as for the feelings of those who have lost some they love (and who hasn't?). However, I suppose those who enjoy wearing skulls have their reasons--which I just don't know--and that most of the skull wearers don't intend to hurt others' feelings and are likely unaware that they do so.

On the other hand, several of the items that some fabbers in this thread dislike are ones that I actually like. Among these are: buttons on shoulders of sweaters and on sailorpants; viscose; shirts with knotted tails at the waist; loafers.

I find it interesting that our poison eye items--and preferences--are so different.

Body-con clothing that is nearly the exact same tone as the skin of the person who wears it, having a “nude” effect. I don’t have a poison eye for footwear, but for shirts/pants/dresses/swimsuits where it’s nearly the same color. I also don’t have nearly as much of a poison eye when there’s a LOT of texture on the clothing, like a formal gown that is very floaty and sparkly, as opposed to clingy and matte.

... Here are the other items (in addition to skulls) that I have listed under "Style Pet Peeves" in my profile: Acrylic fabrics, distressed denim, unkempt shoes, and obviously fake nails.

How about the rest of you--have you checked your profiles?

I'm still not on board with too-short pants, especially cropped flares. And I am not a fan of the "cold shoulder" look, either.

But I'm pretty sure not everyone sees me as fashionable, either. So I am mostly grateful that there is more choice in fashion than there used to be.

Truthfully my poison eye is very context driven. It is not the clothes, it is the wearer and the situation. So I will keep my opinions to myself .

I'm with Irina and Molly Mac, leggings as pants. Even if they are opaque, they reveal parts that no one should see and the jiggle of hips and thighs. A short dress or long tunic that covers crotch really helps.

Highly distressed jeans with major holes in them.
Plaids that don't match up
Cold shoulder tops
Leggings as pants
Fuzzy pajama bottoms worn out as regular pants

Wow, what a wide variety of poison eye items. I have to admit, the unmatched plaid seams really, really bother me too.

Ok. It’s true, while I don’t object to the cold shoulder in principle, I have mostly objected to it in practice... lol !

Two questions for those who can’t it when plaid doesn’t match up at the seams: Do you feel that way about other patterns, and if an outfit includes more than one type of plaid, is it then less irritating if the pattern doesn’t match at the seams of one of them? I feel like multiple plaids in an outfit, in a playful "crazy" way, change the way I interpret the mismatch at the seam, and it's just more crazy.

I'm not a fan of any pattern not matching up however if it's a small one such as a polka dot I'm mostly ok with it unless the mismatch is front and center and really noticeable.
