What is the difference between a vase and a lollipop body shape?

I'm really confused because I've looked at some websites they say vases are top heavy... But I thought lollipop was top heavy? I always identified as a lollipop. I only stray if the shoulders are supposed to be small but other than that it fits my description. Usually if lollipop has barrow shoulders I guess I'm a mix with goblet shoulders.

I don't really get what's the difference?

I've shown this picture and people use vase and lollipop interchangeably....

I think those 2 are pretty similar but the lollipop has slimmer hips and longer legs. Trinny and susannah came for example up with 12 body types whereas many schemes have a lot fewer. Angie has 4.So it's not surprising some are pretty similar.

I think Trinny and Susannah's 12 body types just confuses the issue. You'd think with twelve, one of them would apply to me, but no. I've read them carefully and I don't fit neatly into any of those categories. Angie uses only four, as Anne says -- hourglass, inverted triangle, pear, and rectangle -- but every shape can have modifiers. This simplifies things. Pretty much everybody is some variation of those four basic shapes.

It sounds like you are an inverted triangle.

Inverted triangle if there are only 4 categories tends to just be apple.

I don't fit the apple category in a sense of the word since my waist is my smallest part of me. When I use the standard four shapes calculator I get hourglass off my measurements.

I don't really fit any of the four that's why I prefer the 12 because lollipop is a good fit mostly.

Angie has five types. Apple, Pear, Rectangle, IT, Hourglass. I would think IT would suit your description.

Kfmi, inverted triangles are much more focused on the shoulder to hip proportion. You can be an inverted triangle and still have a waist, although most of us ITs don't have a particular defined waist. That's where the secondary modifier comes in. I'm an IT without a defined waist, tending to weight around my middle. So, I'm an IT with an apple modifier. Others are ITs with an hourglass modifier, because they have larger shoulders compared to their hips, but they have a waist.

And I agree with A. Pictures are very helpful. Often people don't see themselves very objectively. I've seen a lot of folks define themselves as ITs when they actually are slender hourglasses or rectangles.

When I began really researching style and body shape about six months ago, I discovered I was apparently a yucky brick shape according to their flow chart. It didn't even get a cute name like the other shapes. I decided to ignore it and just pretend I was some other shape.

@k in that case I do have broad shoulders in relation to my hips. But my waist to hip ratio is pretty low I don't gain on my waist either rather my bust mainly and then my butt and thighs.

It's always hard to tell when the angle isn't straight on, but I'm sure you are right in guessing IT if you say that your shoulders are broad in relation to your hips. If you read IT and consider secondary hourglass, does that feel right to you? Also, consider what your goal shape is for dressing. Most advice is written with the goal of trying to look like an hourglass. If that isn't your thing, then you might take different bits and pieces of advice. I don't mind looking not particularly curvy, but I don't like my shoulders to look too out of proportion. So, I might ignore advice about defining my waist and instead focus on minimizing my shoulders. Or to consider it from a different, more famous angle, I think Audrey Hepburn was more of an hourglass shape, but she often dressed to look like a rectangle.

Who says an IT can't have a small waist? Even without a picture, you've said two things which strongly suggest IT: your bust measurement is quite a lot bigger than your hips, and you say you have broad shoulders.

Angelina Jolie is a statuesque IT, and she had a tiny waist.

Yeah I kind of see myself as a mix between hourglass and inverted triangle. That's why I prefer just saying I'm a lollipop because I tend to look best when I focus on my waist definition and creating more volume on the bottom half I have curves on top and bottom both my ratios being below .7

So I've always felt curvy in the sense I'm not straight up and down. It's just evening them out. Btw I made a mistake my waist is actually 22.5".

Angelina Jolie has a bigger waist.

It's 27" waist. Whr is really high too.

Mine is .69. Body shape is a matter of ratios.

Hers is .75

My bust isn't much bigger than my hips only by 3ish inches. Actually they're 2 inches bigger currently.

My hips are 33.5" and my bust a little below 36 inches I'm trying to get back to a D cup. But by most calculators I am considered an hourglass by my bust-waist-hip measurements.

I can't really tell from those photos because I can't see your whole body, and it's a weird angle. Kind of a zoom-in of your middle. Get someone else to take one for you!

Remember IT is determined by shoulder, not bust. You can be an IT with a defined waist.

Unfortunately, your pictures don't really give a good sense of your body type. The best type of photo is from head-on, with your arms relaxed at your sides. Your photos are blurry and are at angles.

All you need to see is my waistline as what I said was my waist is defined and my photos say that much. It also shows my hips. My bust would only sway my actual truth to my waist to hip ratio as that was the topic...

If it's relaxed shoulders my shoulders are only 34" relaxed....

The way people dress for IT actually has to do with defining the waist. Which doesn't work well for me my waist emphasizes my bust and shoulders and my hips on a smaller level.

Sounds like splitting hairs at this point. Shapes are just a guideline for dressing. Doesn't much matter if someone arbitrarily deems it a lollipop or vase or a tetrahedron - what is the reason for wanting to define it so narrowly?

My point, what is being deemed a lollipop going to change in what you buy or how you wear things compared to deciding you are a vase?

Kfmi, based on the measurements (shoulder, waist, hip) you listed I would say that you are an hourglass. If you are short waisted, then you could look at IT as a secondary to lengthen the ratio from shoulder-to-waist and get a more "balanced" proportion. For reference, I've got 41" shoulder/27" waist/35" hip and am an IT primary with hourglass secondary; I generally don't follow the IT rules except when it comes to shoulder-to-waist ratio because I am short waisted. You've got to make these guidelines work for you

@mo it's important for how to dress when I look up lollipop it can tell me to widen my shoulders while with a goblet shape it's the general IT shape of defining an amoeba like stomach. That's why it matters to me. Because dressing my figure is harder to do when I don't have padding.

As Aida said, you'll have to use the parts of the guidelines that pertain to you and your unique shape. Almost no one is a perfect _____ but rather a mix of several body types.

What is short waisted? Does it look like I am? I have high hips most my curves come from the top hips as I don't hold weight on my hips. But I had a nurse say I had a long back.... And I'm short I always was told had long legs though...

But yeah I try to mix how I dress I use top hourglass guidelines sometimes. But I was interested in the 12 body shapes too. I just don't follow anything exactly unless the lollipop has wide shoulders really.

@mo I agree but to my original question I still don't quite get the difference between vase and lollipop? I get some don't agree with this system but for those that do could someone give an example of the difference between the two?
