Me? I chose Queenie because I live with my husband and 4 teenage sons, and so I am and will always be the queen of my house

Cute story queenie. Mine is kind of long. It's the name of my hand dyed yarn company, but the story of the name is long. When my son was 4 his very favorite movie was The King and I (the old Debra Kerr, Yul Brenner musical version- not the animated update). He would repeat lines and act out scenes from it. One day he was mad at me, and he told me in his King acting that I was a "Very diffi-cult chooman". Dh and I laughed and laughed at that. He began using "chooman" for me as a nickname when he thought I was being difficult (the DH not the son). I started using chooman as a name online, and when I started my blog which was going to be about knitting and dying yarn I wanted to reference that username that was known. I had seen a picture once of hand dyed yarn in a bowl, and the idea just came to me. Yarn would be really chewy if you tried to eat it like spaghetti- and chewy was a referance to chooman. Thus Chewy Spaghetti was born

Mine is my "porn name", which is one's slang name built with your middle name and the street you grew up on.

My real name is Kendra, and I don't have a widely used nickname, since my name is fairly unique anyway. Those friends of mine that do use nicknames, the names are a little too cutesy for me to use as a screenname (Kendji, Z-Pac, Kendj Benj, etc...), but I knew that I didnt want to use my real name, because it wouild be easier to google me and stalk me online.

I originally started using the name, Lee Hovey when i was plaing rock band with friends and we all built our rocker characters, and they all had very rocker-esque names for the game, me.... not so much, so thats when someone suggested my "porn name". LOL it sounds kinda tacky when I describe it that way.

I went the same way as Rute, though now I'm questioning the wisdom of that move. I have a lot of identifying info on this forum, which I believe is searchable through google and by non-members. You guys who went with something more creative were being both smart and fun, I think!

Mine is also just my name, or rather my nickname. I'm really an Eleanor, though I've been almost exclusively Ele since I was born (which is funny because my parents swore up and down that they'd *never* use a nickname when they chose it!). I use it for a lot of usernames, online stuff, etc- it's almost always "available" because of the unusual spelling (ie, not Ellie).

My real name is “Angelique” and unless you can pronounce it properly in either French or Dutch you are not allowed to call me by my real name! But I have also been “Angie” my whole life – which in Dutch becomes “un-chie” (phonetically). I am Angelique to all my Euro family and friends, but Angie pronounced the American or English way to everyone else in the world.

Marianna is my real name -- although it's not pronounced like Mary OR Anna. My family is Russian so we pronounce it more like Mari + Ana. I don't like when my name is pronounced Mary Anna although it is butchered all the time.

When I first joined the forum my username was MariannaCecile, which is my first name and middle name. I only chose that because Marianna was unavailable initially. I don't really use my middle name for much, so when the forum underwent some upgrades and I was able to change my name, I gladly did! It seems like there was another Marianna on the forum before, but she's not active anymore?

I use "girlindenim" on some other websites because I am almost always in jeans.

Ooh I love reading everyone's stories. Dawn is my real name and I was named after my mother's favourite Irish racehorse, Dawn Run. I was also born at dawn but my mother had already chosen my name by then. I generally hate nicknames but some people call me Dawnie and some special friends call me Spawn.

My original username was tassajara which comes from my mountain bike which is a Gary Fisher Tassajara. It became my username on mountain biking forums and I've just used it since then.

Mine is my middle name, which I use online because my first name (Zareen) constantly gets butchered, even though it's completely phonetic...

Anyway, it's hard to explain how to pronounce something online, so it's just easier if I use my middle name, which is at least relatively common in the US. I sometimes wish my parents inverted my first and middle names.

My first name here was Mayapple...because I wanted to use my name without *actually* using my name. But it was pronounced May-apple which was kind of weird, and probably what lead some people to think my name was May-a. When Tanya became "Tanya" instead of dancingstar, I decided to make a similar move.

I'm another predictable one! I went with a variation of my real name, Deborah. The funny thing is that I always pronounce my username (in my head) with an emphasis on the middle syllable even though the emphasis is on the first syllable in my real name. I love my user name! My father used to affectionately say my name this way and it always makes me smile and think of him whenever I type it.

Mine is my real name. I had never signed up for anything like this before and it was in the early days of the forum so there wasn't another anne there. I try to be careful about what details I put here, because Aus has a relatively small population and I could be googled pretty easily!

We tease our first born not to be a "pickle,"and pickle/picklejuice became a nickname of sorts (hey, it's a step-up from her in-utero nickname). So I became "Mamapicklejuice."

My nickname comes from my late mother's name which means "pearl" in my native language... so I'm "Legacy of Pearl".

Angie: I just asked my husband how to say "Angelique" in Dutch. He kept laughing at me every time I said it. Sigh! I thought I nailed the g->h thing.

Yay! I feel happy that I, also, have been pronouncing your name correctly (in my head), Marianna. For some reason it didn't even occur to me that it might be Mary-Anna.

I'd like to have a crack at pronouncing Angelique correctly if and when we ever meet, Angie. I have a not-horrible French accent and a good grasp of German- maybe I can manage with my Euro sensibilities Can you type it out phonetically for us?

I think it's funny how particular people are about about pronunciation/spelling of their names. Personally, I bristle if I ever get an email/note addressed to Ellie. Yes, it sounds the same, but to me Ellie is a girly-girl who wears a lot of pink and carries a chihuahua around in a LV murakami bag. In other words, not me.

as my first name is Kim, it never gets mispronounced.... but our last name is a fairly common female first name, so often people get them switched on me (like when waiting to be called for a dr. appt) This really gets annoying to my boys. I never realized it, but 3 of their names could actually pass as last names... so often they will be called by our last name in these situations.. they just roll their eyes, and proceed to go forward... it's funny then to watch the nurse look at this big boy (who she was expecting to be a girl) and then look back down at her paper and realize that she had switched the names around.

Mine is my real name too. No, my parents weren't hippies and my mother did not have a long labor. (I have been asked these questions all of my life.) It's a family name-- my mother's name and my great grandmother who was Irish.

My parents always joked that they would have 4 girls and name them Patience, Prudence, Providence and Perseverance. The birth of my brother ended that plan.

I don't participate in any other forums but if I did I would probably choose something else, although I'm not sure what. Just goes to show how comfortable I am here.

When I decided to join YLF - I saw 'chewyspaghetti' and liked it. I had no idea it was about yarn - I thought it was about al dente I was thinking of texture, and food of course. Meanwhile, I am very much a "foodie" and don't feel very stylish at all when it comes to clothes.

That said, I can make beautiful and stylish food (looks as good as it tastes). I host a lot of dinner parties and everyone always asks me to bring things to their dinners. So, I chose velvetychocolate because it was a way to sort of identify where I'm at in terms of style. I don't feel stylish enough (clothing-wise) to pick something like "FashionDiva" or anything like that.

You know what? Just in answering this question, I think I've clued into something...something kind of neat

I just realized that when I cook - it's all about colour, taste, texture and so on. Now, if only I can somehow apply that to my clothing!

This is an interesting breakthough. I just realized how fussy I am about high-quality ingredients, and how I'll put things like wild blueberries across some grilled meat, or how I insist that a simple egg salad has to have smoked salmon and capers in it.

Don't laugh, but I think I'm going to see if I can access that 'style' in this area of my life and transfer it to my wardrobe too.

Boof comes from a two-year-old who couldn't pronounce my real name (Meredith) and called me "Mereboof." The Boof is what stuck as I had HUGE 80's hair at the time...long, permed (I know my hair is already curly), and skyscraper bangs...very Bon Jovi. Boof became associated with big "boofy" hair...like bouffant. A few select friends still call me Boof.

My username is the month I was born. My sister's real middle name is Mae, so when she joined the forum we thought it would be amusing to be April and Mae. (If you're wondering whatever happened to Mae -- me too. She is rather scarce during the academic year, but we will see each other in December and maybe I can coax her back to the forum.)

BTW, I'm dying for Shiny to chime in here, since hers is the username I have wondered most about...
