Mine is a rough approximation of the russian word for "apple". It's a internet name I picked well over 10 years ago and I've stuck with it. Not the easiest email address to share with other people, but I just cannot imagine giving it up now after all this time.

Tam, I speak Russian and I would have never figured it out! But now I completely see it. Cute.

Mine is also an internet name that I picked up sometime ago and use on internet forums. I have to add though that it was way before the Twilight series.

LOL, Tam! Here's a bit of goofiness... I always thought your name was the slang-ish form of "you blogger". Like saying "yo' blogga!". It made total sense to me until today and now it feels silly to even have thought of that.

BTW: I wrote down today about the the real "legacy" of pearl. Hope you ladies have more to add to my list. Direct link: http://www.legacyofpearl.com/6326210

Marianna I thought if anyone got it it would be you. Love your babushkas!!!

Hahah LOP that's funny. I never thought of that!

I love these stories, how fun:-)

My husband gave me mine years ago as a nickname. When we met my hair was very short but then started growing it out.Within months I had a crazy crop of hair that I refused to shape because I was a student on a VERY tight budget. You should see some of these pictures, good grief. Indeed, my head looked like a palm tree, and behold the endearing nickname palm fronds was born. I still sign it at the bottom of text messages to DH

For YLF purposes my nickname simply refers to my forehead.

a variation of my first name...not the most exciting thing

what fun it has been to get more of a glimpse into who you all are!
shiny- I thought your name must have meant that you have the cleanest windows on the block

thanks everyone for sharing your stories!

Mine is because for a short time I was the coxswain for a rowing team, and the cox holds the "strings" (very thin ropes) of the rudder, and therefore often get called 'the stringy'. Or at least in the clubs in our town Our whole team had nicknames, but mine just stuck.

Tam, I speak Russian, too, and that was my first thought when I saw your user name, but I wasn't sure you knew the language

Mine is a character's name out of a book I had enjoyed a while ago and I loved the meaning of the word - means desert spring.

LOP - I loved reading your blog about your mom. How wonderful! I will remember to slightly raise the knees of my trousers before sitting down from here on out

Tam, I thought your name was some spin on blue blockers.

I was curious about yours Sihaya. How pretty!

Bingo Marianne! Are you Russian too? Sadly I don't anymore. Used to when I was younger but stopped lessons Now all I can say is hello, how are you etc and "I don't understand!". I would love to learn again, and tried a few years ago, but the grammar thoroughly confused me. All those "cases"!!!

Maya I have never heard of BluBlockers I just wear cheap $5 sunnies from markets because I constantly break/scratch them!!

Guess mine was a no brainer for me...I work at Ann* Taylor* a few hrs. a week:)

Shiny, I thought your username was linked to REM track Shiny Happy People. The tune always pops in mind when I see one of your posts.

Tam, I had made a spurious link between your name and 'yabloko' earlier this year when I was writing an essay about the Russian political party system as there is a Russian political party called Yabloko. I meant to ask you if there was a link but I never got around to it. I want to learn Russian eventually but I'm placing a priority on my Spanish and French for now.

Hehe interesting cross-reference Dawn! I wonder if the political party name is based on apples too. I am way more into food than politics

Tam, Blublockers are ugly sunglasses that used to sell on infomercials late at night. Incidentally, I never heard of them until my friend Kate, who also lives in Australia, bought a pair as a joke and created a whole photo album of her friends wearing them. It actually crossed my mind that maybe you and she know each other and she popped you in her 'blockers, but then I realized how stupid it would be for you to base your username on that...

One year she ordered me a pair without telling me and you could only imagine the thrill of finding the mystery package and discovering its contents. They came with a free Blublocker calendar with these voluptuous pinup girls in skimpy clothes all sporting their Blublockers.

This is such a fun and interesting post. My name Fathenry is my internet name, login, etc. for everything just so I can remember it. It has been that way for years.

My first beloved kitty cat was Henry, over 15 years ago. My husband actually came up with the phrase years and years ago one day when he created a screensaver for me with the words Fathenry (remember when it was cool to have a word going across your screen? Long time ago!)

I've always been afraid that people might think I have a bad body image though, because I never thought I would find myself posting on a fashion website!

My real name is so unique that I feel a little weird putting it on the internet, although it seems really safe here so I've been tempted.

Fathenry, I would have never thought "bad body image" because I always read your name as fa-then-ry rather than fat-henry!

oh, I just got that too "fat-henry" I always thought it was fath-enry too, and when you said something about body image I couldn't figure out what you were talking about. funny!

Maya and Queenie - that is hilarious! I think I'm changing it to your way, sounds much nicer!

Fathenry – I wish I was reading your name “fat-henry”. That’s so cute! I have been reading your name like Maya and queenie: “Fa –then-ry” and I found it hard to roll off the tongue in my head.

This post is fantastic! Thanks to everyone who posted. I'm so glad I found it and could learn everyone's story.

Fathenry, I'll admit that when I first saw your username I thought you were an overweight man! After looking at a couple of your posts I realized how ridiculous my assumption was.

Tam, I've been wondering about your name for a while. I know a bit of Russian but I didn't get the connection at all. In my head I was pronouncing it all wrong, like yoo-BLAHK-a - rhymes with "Chewbacca" from Star Wars. I actually wondered if your username was connected to Chewbacca in some way! Kind of funny.

VC, I had wondered if your username was related to Khris'. Interesting that they are related. And Khris, I love hearing the full story behind Chewyspaghetti.

I chose my username to be medusa because I have snakes for hair and am so ugly that when people look at me they turn to stone.

OK, not really...I chose it because I like the idea of accepting myself as I am, including embracing my ugliness.

What a great thread - it's interesting getting all the explanations. Queenie, I am the only female in a house of 3 boys so I'm also the queen. Hmm, scratch that, I think my female cat, Chloe is the queen - she's certainly a diva!

I'm definitely not the creative type - my username is just my name.

Medusa, I hope you don't really feel ugly because you're not and I don't just mean that in the oh but you're so beautiful on the inside way:)

San is short for Sandy which is short for Sandra. I really do not care for the name Sandra. (Sorry to any other Sandra's out there) Almost everyone calls me Sandy. My Grandmother called me Sandra but she is gone now.
Medusa, you take that back. You are adorable.
Fathenry, I didn't get the fat-henry until now either. I thought you were a farmer and fathenry was something like husbandry! HaHa!

Maya, I think your given name is lovely...Zareen just sounds so elegant!

Sihaya, mind if I ask what book inspired your forum name? I'm intrigued...

Marianna, I've been saying your name right in my head all along...but I have to tell you that I confuse you *alot* on Facebook with my dance teacher (her name is Maria Sokolova- and every time I see you post something, I think its her name and do a double take)

Fathenry, I've been saying your name like the others "fath-enry" and wondering what on earth it could mean. When I read your description I had to go back and look at it again and I almost LOL'd for real at work =)

Mine's just my first name. I go by a couple other names on the internet but I figured it'd be unique enough on the forum...I've been told by my parents that it means 'creative' in Sanskrit.

This is an interesting thread.
Maya,I love the name Zareen. It has a musical tone to it.
I started out with the username as buddingfahionista as I was a novice in terms of fashion and style.I later changed it to my real name Ruchi as buddingfashionista was too long.My name means interest/flavor in sanskrit.
