What do you think of these boots?and what color coat?

I've been looking for a pair of brown knee-hi boots to wear with skinnies. It's also very, very cold and snowy where I live. So, I found these LaCanadiennes. http://www.zappos.com/la-canad.....acco-suede. What do you all think of them? I'd have to try them on, of course, but the measurements are right on. I'm not crazy about the suede. I was hoping for a gorgeous cognac smooth leather color, but I can't find it in my size measurements. I need a 16" calf/ 14"-15" high shaft. The red patent is gorgeous, but I'm afraid it may be a bit much for me and my rural, MOTG lifestyle. I'd definitely be saying something about myself, very loudly, if I strutted into the grocery store with my 1 year old wear the red patent. Hehe.

Also, what coat works with these boots? I have a mulberry/purple down coat, a camel peacoat, a black wool coat.

I have a long list of cognac boots that meet that description (but don't work for ME) - are you interested, or are you specifically looking for hard core winter boots? I too live in a bitterly cold place! Suede can get beaten up with salt and snow/wet slush, even with proofing. I like the boots themselves, though!

ooh that would be awesome, alaskagirl. They don't HAVE to be hard core winter boots. I do have my Sorels for major snowstorms. Otherwise, they just need to be able to withstand a wet toe without being destroyed or getting my foot wet. I usually wear a pair of Dansko professionals without any problems for daily MOTG activities. I didn't mention before, but I can't do much of a heel. 2" is my max. The ball of my foot hurts like crazy at my age with high heel shoes.

One was the Olsters that chewyspaghetti posted about. Steve Madden's site has lots of cognac boots. I will put together the complete list! For the wet toe I'm thinking you'll need Rockports or some other hardy brand?

I'm going to argue for the red patent. It looks like a lovely dark red on my computer and honestly, if you love it I think you should consider it. Who's to say what's "too much," you know? To me it just seems fun! (Says the woman who is sporting her red Frye's at the law office today...)

I like the boots and think they will certainly go with your camel coat (and possibly the others) but I would be leary about the suede in wet weather, even if weatherproofed.

Hmm, the suede just doesn't do it for me. I'm definitely craving a smoother leather, maybe even a patent leather. I'd be tucking my skinnies into these boots a lot. How many things go with red patent? It's sort of dressy isn't it? I'm also falling in love with the veronica slouch boots from Frye. I worry a little about their weather-worthyness, though.

I think patent leather was actually considered more casual than normal leather, though it seems a lot of people no longer follow this perception.

i think patent is slightly dressier than smooth leather. Will these be your only pair of boots or will you alternate with others?

Ahh, good point Mellls, these are the only boots I would have, except for my Kamik snow boots, which I should probably only wear playing in the snow with my kids. I have a huge hole in my shoe wardrobe. Actually, I only have 1 pair of shoes (Dansko's-dark brown professionals) that aren't "gear" or too darn uncomfortable to wear with my little ones. Wow. I didn't realize this. I have nothing, no flats, no boots, no fashion sneakers. Just running shoes, snow boots, and flip flops. Oh and high heels, no happening with a 1 year old on my hip.

So the red patent might be a good addition after I have some other boots, eh? Don't want to wear them constantly and be know as the lady with the red boots...
