What do you name?

I've noticed some ladies like to name their handbags. I've never named any item of clothing -- I have multiple handbags, but they're always "my purse," and I have coats, but they're always "my coat." (Well, my husband did dub one top "the boob hammock," but since I immediately burned it, I don't think that counts.) I do call my car "the mom-mobile," but not as a proper name.

Do you guys often name things? Like what?

I love the fun names people come up with here.

I never name my clothes, though. Just my kid, my characters, my cat (actually, daughter named him). And my computer, who is called Mnemosyne.

Hmm. Maybe if I did name my bags I would love them more?

Fun question.

I love names, but I never give an actual "name" name to any non-sentient thing. So, pets get names (even the fish in our fish tank), but plants don't, cars don't, handbags don't, clothing doesn't, footwear doesn't. I might give things labels, though. For example, for about three years after moving into our current home, we referred to it as the "New Lellow House", which is of course what our daughter had named it.

When it comes to pet names, I do prefer names you might bestow on a human, like Ruby or Fred. I was delighted when I realized that Ms. Scarlett was Goldenpig's new purse. I mean, if you're going to name it, give it a proper name. Scarlett is perfect!

Actually, the BF ends up naming my clothes. Like lettuce legs for some lounge capris (they had lettice edged hems) and who could forget the icky cat pants (ikat jeans). Also, the creamsicle bikini, oh, and my 'toilet paper' shirt due to it's texture. Yeah, he has some sense of humor, that one.

It would be fun to name wardrobe pieces but then can one ever edit them out? They have become members of the family.

I've really enjoyed the names that people have given their fashion items here on the forum - but no, I do not do it myself. Although I'm thinking that maybe it would be a good idea - then (perhaps?) I wouldn't forget about them and lose them in the back of my closet!

My favourite book ever is about a girl who loves her boyfriend almost as much as she loves her frocks, all of whom have names. Lol.

My silver Honda Civic was named Siegfried. My VW wagon is pretty much a Helga.

Nope, only animate objects get names in this house (apart from servers and tech devices). I do like hearing what people have named their things.

I can't say I've named my clothes, no.

The rooms in my house though... A few years ago we bought a really large home with 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The kids were 6 and 4 at the time and named some of the rooms, sort of. We kept our cats in one of the empty bedrooms downstairs to acclimatize and that became the Cat's Room. The bathroom-en-suite is the Cat's Bathroom. The main bathroom downstairs is The Cocoon Bathroom, because it has a big oval bath.

I feel that they have personality, but not necessarily a name.

My CRV is named Sir V (for obvious reasons).

Not really. The SO and I do have descriptive titles for some clothing, but not in the way you'd name a pet or a person. His fleece PJ pants with penguins on them are "penguin pants" and have a cult following, his grey Patagonia fleece is his "fuzzy", and my "fuzzy" is a minky fabric blanket that lives on the couch.

My sister always named my cars growing up. My husband gave funny names to our kids (that include their own names, plus a rhyming word along with it). Can't think of anything else I've named.

Turns out I name places: The Woman Cave, the Bachelorette Pad, the Former Marital Residence. Before that it was The House With the Green Roof.

Other than that, notsomuch.

ETA: Well, except The Cutest Purse In The World. Which I didn't so much name as decide to refer to by its accurate description.

Not clothing. We've renamed people, at least privately. The now deceased but then estranged husband of a distant relative we decided looked like Frankenstein. So we referred to him as *Frank*, although his name was Terry.

I've only named one out of my many purses! And I was inspired to do that (Ms. Scarlet) by Claire, who had a handbag called Rosie, I think...

Pillows. For some strange reason. Even before we had kids, they were: Stripey, Puff, Foamy, etc. We are particular about our pillows here, maybe that is why we need to give them descriptors.

I think of my car as 'the baby penguin', because when I "call' it by pressing the lock button twice on my keychain, it beeps at me.

But as a general rule, I don't name anything except pets, and my hopefully-soon-to-be-ex-brother-in-law, whose very soul is an affront to all free-thinking women everywhere, because he is a firm believer that all women should be barefoot-and-pregnant, and that no woman is the equal of any man, anywhere. But I am not going to write the name I hath bestowed upon him in this forum, because I consider you all polite company

But handbags, or shoes, or the like... no. I just refer to them by brand/category/attributes: Nine West wedges. Cavalli pumps. Dog-poop-sneakers-that-are-now-Joan-Crawford-no-wire-hangers-clean.

Hm, no name for my car! And Precious is the first clothing item I have named, following after Claire's Monty and Natalie's Scarlet. I do have a whole stuffed cat collection, and alllll of those have names.

Our first car was named Roxanne. DH and the kids have a couple of names each depending on scenario and mood, as do the cats. My racing bike is called Nice Bike. When first seen the comment I always get is, "That's a niiiiice biiiiike!"

Haven't named any fashion items...yet! Now if I had a Channel bag.....

Thought I'd come back and mention every item of equipment in the bakery is named "Bob." This makes it tough when someone tells you Bob is having problems...
