What an old bag! - YouLookFab Forum

Keeping up with Katerina's challenge to post old favourites here I am with my favourite boot/bag combo.
They are 16years plus old as I got them BD(before daughter).My husband went on a work trip to Hong Kong and suggested that I go with him but as he had a very tight schedule I would have been spending most of the time on my own so decided against going.Whilst he was away I went on a shopping trip to Bath and saw these boots in the window of Russell and Bromley ,a smart shoe shop on the British high street.Normally I would not have considered such a purchase but funnily enough the boots and the matching bag weren't quite the airfare to Hong Kong!
I have not regreted it .These boots remain comfortable after all these years and the subtle snakeskin print still makes me feel funky.The bag isn't big enough for everyday use but great for short trips out or evenings.
The jeans I m wearing are Boden bootcuts approx 10years old,the jacket is by next 5+years(I recently dyed this navy from white),the scarf is a week old!and the spotty top I made last year.

You look terrific, what great purchases that still look up to date. Amazing that the boots are comfy too! I'm loving this challenge as it's such a contrast to the fast fashion we so often see. And jealous of your lovely rich green shrubs, what a pretty front walk.

Thank you Style fan ,the recent posts on bootcuts reminded me that I haven’t worn them for years so l ve got th em out now the rain has stopped and am enjoying wearing them again.

I suppose at 16years technically it’s a teenage bag but then bag years are different to human years.

What a great boots and bag combo! No wonder they’re your favorites. I love the outfit you put together with old favorites plus a new scarf and top. It is such a beautiful classic combination and the matching snake boots and bag look great with the navy and red. You look fabulous. Great job with dyeing the jacket - looks great. And the top you have made. You are very good!

I have actually also just ordered a solid red scarf - didn’t have any and it’s such a useful accessory. It will come next week. Inspired by the way you have styled it.

Katerina-you are so kind!A solid red scarf is very useful ,the new one whichI m wearing in the photos is a summer version of a red cashmere one which I am rarely out of in the winter so Iknew that I would get equal wear out of this one but they aren’t t easy to find.I hope that you like your new one when it arrives.

Amy Isabella-ah yes good old R and B.I haven’t bought anything from them since then,they seem rather expensive these days when there is so much choice on the high street.

Apart from Aquatalia boots, I haven't bought anything there for a while .... the quality of their shoes definitely isn't what it used to be IMO.

The bag and boots are so fab styled with your bootcut jeans. Love the story behind them.

You dyed the jacket? Super impressive. I once tried to overdye some jeans - the results were *meh* for the mess I made.

Cardiff, that's a nice bag, but holy moly, your outfit!!!! Everything works so well here. Please keep those jeans. You are so wise to wear it with a bootie that has a little heel, it works out so well. If the jacket was dyed, then even better: you made an incredibly stylish and useful garment. Kudos to you!

The jacket was bugging me I d had it for years but never worn it and couldn’t work out why.I think it’s because I have other white jackets that I preferred. Anyway this year I felt a wardrobe hole of a navy summer blazer but nothing was jumping out at me in the shops so I thought that I d try dyeing this jacket.It s a linen outer shell with cotton lining so ideal fabrics to take the dye.l used a Dylon washing machine pod dye in navy and did a few of the husbands fading shirts as well whilst I was at it.I m really impressed with the results,the colour is gorgeous and even .You would not know that it wasn’t t always a navy jacket and of course I feel like I ve got a new jacket for the princely sum of £6!The DH is suitably impressed with his “new”shirts as well.l was telling my mother and she told me that her mother,so my grand mother,used to dye things all the time when she fancied a change so maybe it’s genetic!

Your bag and boots are great! Some items are timeless, and these meet the criteria. Once again, how is it that we can figure this out? Are all snakeskin items timeless? I don’t think so.

Your renewed blazer looks amazing. I would never have known it wasn’t navy from the start. I am a bit nervous about trying something like that. Does the dye clear from your machine easily?

Thank you Bijou,stays fit and Angie for your kind comments ,much appreciated.Staysfit,the Dylon dyes are great just follow the instructions but you are right to be cautious,I didn’t put a white wash in immediately after the dye wash ,I made sure it was a dark one first before I did a lighter wash but with sensible precautions I ve not had any disasters.

Thanks Jane,I don’t know about you but I find Next very much hit and miss ,a lot of not so good stuff but then in amongst it all they can have some really good stuff.It just takes a lot of finding!
