It's a warm, sunny day--finally summer has arrived in Seattle--and I decided to wear a dress. I walked to a coffee shop to meet a friend for lunch, and otherwise, I'm sitting around at home. As Angie says, "if not now, when?" Granted, this is not a fancy dress, but usually on a day like this, I'd be wearing shorts and trying to make them look and feel fab.

The outfit: white, blue, and green ombre-effect linen dress (made by me); silver platform sandals (Mephisto); pewter bag (Kurt Geiger).

Anyone else thinking about how to wear the clothes, with diminished occasions?

What a great dress! I'm glad you brought it out; it's perfect for a day like that and you actually had an occasion to wear it. You look terrific. Nice silvery touches also, to complement the dress and your hair.

I love to wear dresses but am always worrying they will wrinkle or get stained because I'm messy. Lately I have been forcing myself to wear dresses to see my mom in her senior facility, because that's the only place I'm going lately. Mom dresses well every day so I think she appreciates it.

Yes, I have very few outings, so I wear shorts most of the time. I’m wearing shorts right now. We’ve been having hot weather since the end of June. Thankfully (knock on wood), no smoke to speak of. But still, it’s been 100, give or take, every single day .

That is a perfect summer dress for an easy day! Yeah, I do this sometimes too. I wore this dress the other day to run errands. I just style it super simply with fisherman sandals and crossbody, which keeps it from looking “special.”

These days, I am in the office fulltime and not doing much else due to rising COVID rates. I am just focusing on trying to enjoy my officewear as much as I can.

Really pretty dress ! I always love seeing your work :). My most recent attempt to dress up a bit for a trip to the nail salon was not great - shoes were wrong , silhouette was off , etc. I think I’m sorely out of practice .

ChristelJ, it's so nice that you dress up a little to see your mom. I bet she does appreciate it. I can relate, I think; I never saw my mother in a pair of jeans or sweatpants!

JAileen, I feel for you. I find it so hard to dress for hot weather like that! I feel at those temps, it's all about survival. Style goes out the window for me! These earrings are kind of like carnival glass. I got them in a boutique in Austin, TX, when I lived there a couple of decades ago.

Angie, thank you! yes, lunch was yummy. We went to a favorite spot that has good crepes. They told us it would be a 20-minute wait for the crepes, and we were like, no problem! Gave us more time to chat.

Sharan, you look beautiful in this dress, I hope you wear it often this summer. I now work from home and could spend my day in loungewear, but prefer to dress up. For me, it helps me get into 'work mode' and wear the clothes I have. I always feel smarter interacting with clients and colleagues wearing smart casual clothing on Zoom meetings.

I wear dresses a LOT during the summer but I dress them down like Janet mentioned.

I’ve had Angie’s words ‘if not now, when’ resonating in my head as well. I’ve been consciously dressing up in a way that makes me feel good for just about everything from grocery shopping to medical appts.

SarahD8, I like that idea of dressing down the dress. Dresses can be the coolest choice on a hot day, too. We'll see about that this coming week!

Bijou, I do think dressing appropriately, even for a work phone call--doesn't even have to be video--makes a difference. "Work mode" is a thing, for sure.

merwoman, thank you. It was a puzzle, trying to figure out how to place the ombre pattern on this dress when I cut it out! Glad to hear you are taking Angie's advice to heart, too. It can be a challenge for me, but it is mood-lifting.

I try to wear my better clothes, too. And not only twice a week to the office but to a mall or visiting kids, every opportunity counts.

I prefer skirts and dresses in the heat. I wear them with casual flats and bags and they don’t feel unduly dressy.

The dress is so fab and just perfect to elevate the mood on a regular day. Very Israeli sort of dress actually. I find how I dress is mostly about me, me, me and am leaning into that more and more.

Wow, Sharan, the cutest linen dress EVER!!! I love linen, but linen dress are generaly so plain, uni color and basic cuts or frilly, striped or bright colors. Am in love with yours! Did you combine 2 different linen fabrics here? (one the ombre colors and one plain white?) anyway, TDF!!!

Dresses are the coolest garments for me in hot humid summers, especially if they are free flowing and waft around. The dress looks stunning, both on you and in craftsmanship. You are obviously a skilled dressmaker! The garden looks good too.

Yeah, I’m struggling with upping my dressing game when there’s little reason or occasion to. Or when I do and look around at how under dressed everyone else is, feeling depressed because it’s a reminder of how the world has changed.

Jaime, this dress does remind of Israeli designs that I've admired, now that you mention it. I agree about dressing for oneself, especially now in the fashion moment of "(almost) anything goes."

Aquamarine, I know--can it be possible that the norm has become even more casual that it was getting pre-pandemic? I do seem to see people making more of an effort around my area lately, though. It's fun to see.
