Well, all these colours suit you well. So it's not that.
I actually adore #1 on you and to me, that reads as neutral. The blush with blue in the scarf is fabulous with your personal colouring and against the dark backdrop of jeans and sweater. In that case, I'll be it was something about your coat that threw you, because I honestly can't see any other reason.
I also like #2 but that bright teal is more "attention grabbing" and maybe that doesn't feel right for your personality. Your word "fallible" makes me think that, also. You may simply feel too exposed in a bright colour. It suits you, but doesn't feel like you. Nancylee has been struggling with this issue -- a lover of soft neutrals, she's come to learn that she looks best in bright, clear colours. Yet she can only handle so much of those.
#3 is very soft. I wonder if a lower contrast bottom might feel better to you with that one. So that the whole is blended and there is less of an abrupt demarkation between top and bottom.
I also prefer neutrals for the most part....yet I love all the blues, cranberry red, other berry tones, orchids, and even fuchsia. Here's what I've learned.
Blue is the easiest. Yet some blues are too strong for me in some seasons. I only wear cobalt in spring/ summer. Do not like to wear it when the light is wintery.
Pastels (like your mint sweater) often wash me out and make me feel insipid. But in summer, the palest blues feel wonderful.
If I'm wearing a bright, I like to combine it with white or with navy or denim, as a rule. Brights with black feel pretty strong on me. Too strong, really.
I can wear more than one bright item at a time ... but if so, I need white or something light to break it up.
On the whole, I prefer bright tops/ jackets to bright bottoms, but I do like a bright skirt.
It's okay to decide that neutrals are your thing. Clearly Claire has built her entire wardrobe in her key neutrals, and feels absolutely fab. She looks terrific in pinks, blues, and lots of other colours, but she feels garish and not like herself. Maybe your style persona is similar!
