Glory, it's a mini/borderline medium labradoodle. A brown one. So, a curly muppet of a dog.

Ruby, Una is cute, but I can't detach the name from Alaskagirl!

Flytigress, there can only be one Oprah, I think!

Please don't name your puppy Echo...

I never thought of that! Is Echo your avatar name or your real one?

Both, kind of. My given name is not Echo, but my family has called me that my whole life. It is a nickname that has become my "real" name, and I am introduced to everyone as and I introduce myself as Echo. If someone were to call my given name, I wouldn't respond at all, since I've never actually been called that!

Seriously, though, name your puppy whatever resonates with you. Someone suggested Una, and I felt bad for her, too! Our dog when I was a child was named Heidi, and I know that many people have that name, so it happens a lot. I am rather partial to the name Taco for a dog.

Well, now you know how cool I think the name Echo is!

Taco is hilarious, btw.

Late to the game, but we're going through this too, with a new kitten coming to join us soon. Ozzie was on our short list, too...short for Ozymandias, but also as a tribute to a favorite soccer player. We also toyed with "Banksy," but we're going with something else (Phoebus)

Other girl name ideas:
Irene, Shelley, Zelda

I'd love to name a pet Pemberley, but I don't think my family would go for it.

Oh, I LOVE Osa. All I can think of is Ophelia.

Hazel.

Oh, what about Orla ...as in Orla Kiely ?

Am I the only on who doesn't want to wait any longer to find out the doggie name? And it looks like we've got another couple weeks.

I've decided I like the name Gizmo too, but probably for a boy.

Kiddo
Jingo
Fro ( if it has the appropriate hair)
Sumo Sue-mo (or Mo)
Koko ( might work better than Coco for the kids)
You can add O to the beginning or end of many things...Popo, O'Pop, Aziro, O' phale
(Taco is cat backwards plus O)

Thanks for all the great suggestions, ladies! Today, we found out which puppy is ours, and the kids looked at her and decided she looks like an Izzy. Excellent! Problem solved. Izzy was my first suggestion after they nixed Ozzy. (thumbs up to Xtabay, who also suggested it)

We're heading out next Saturday to pick her up. I'm so excited! (Wish it wasn't a six-hour drive, though, argh). I haven't had a puppy in 20 years. Will post pics when we get her.

Sounds like a good name, and with minimal issues agreeing too. Still, this thread could be good for others needing name suggestions.

Looking forward to pics of Izzy.

I just saw this NYT article. How lucky you are getting a dog!

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/0.....hone-share

"Pets, especially dogs, may have a salutary effect on health because they add to the rich array of microbes in our homes, to the benefit of our immune systems."

Whereeeee is puppy?!! Is it Saturday yet?

Jaileen, thanks for the article! I'm looking forward to reading it.

Lol Rachy and delurked, we have to drive halfway across BC to pick her up, which is at least six hours -- so we're heading out Saturday, staying overnight, then picking her up Sunday. We won't get back until Sunday night and we could be in for a few sleepless nights. Here's the breeder's picture of Izzy in the meantime (she's 8 weeks now). Ignore the eyewatering blue background, not sure what that's about. Looks like she's posing at the bottom of an empty swimming pool!

You know, I have learned if you are willing to do a few sleepless nights and drowse next to your puppy: three days to puppy pad train...

Although, I don't guarantee good aim. Ahem!

Oh my! She's a cutie. Those eyes, that nose. The cute little curly fur. Hope your family has a great time with her.

Oh wow! She is heartbreakingly cute. I'd name her Chewbacca, or Chewy.

Rachy, thanks for the tip

delurked -- isn't she though? Lol. Those green eyes most likely won't stay green, though. I've been reading up on dog genetics, and the recessive bb alleles that are responsible for the brown coat colour are usually associated with amber or hazel eyes, although they often start out green. I'm happy either way.

JAileen, you know what's funny? Our beloved cockapoo was called Chewie (for Chewbacca), for the same reasons. Been there, done that! Great minds think alike.

Oh that is funny! Then I'd use Wookiee. I mean, come on!

George Lucas said the inspiration for Chewbacca was his dog. How about that!

What an awesomely cute dog! Thanks for sharing the pic.

Of course, I LOVE Izzy...reminds me of my nickname : Issy. LOL
Congrats to all of you !

Izzy is a great name, & I enjoyed all the different names suggested! I always find it interesting that some people like it when they come across a dog with the same name as theirs, while others don't like it. My husband & I have named all of our dogs we've had in our 30 yrs. of marriage, except that our 3 current dogs came to us already named. Our 2 Australian Sheperds are Elle & Skippy, & our Border Collie is Eve. Our previous dogs were Banzai (Standard Poodle), Solo (Chessie/pit mix), Sasha (Australian Shepherd/Border Collie), Java (Lab mix from local espresso stand), "Tex" (spaniel mix--full name Mr. Texaco because be came from the Texaco station next door to the espresso stand, & Tommy (Dobie/GSD). Often breeders will have a theme name for each litter, so that can help you pick a name that goes with litter theme. (Elle was from the media-themed litter, so she was named for Elle magazine.) Skippy's litter didn't have a theme--his first owners had the breeder register him as (breeder's kennel name) Teddy Bear, as they were going to call him Teddy, but after he was registered as Teddy Bear, they decided to call him Skippy. I liked the name Teddy, but he'd been called Skippy for all of his 4 yrs. before we got him, so we didn't want to change his name.

I love Teddy and Eve for names!

She's so cute!! I love Izzy for her name. Have fun with her.
