I am curious if people still wear watches?

In the past watches were a key accessory in my wardrobe.  I had dressy watches, casual watches, and GPS tracker watches for running and fitness.  My mother gave me a dressy pulsar watch for HS graduation.  My stepfather gave me a watch for my 35th BD.  I still have both and wear neither.  The HS graduation watch is gold with a black face. It’s not my style. My 35th BD watch is a quartz Raymond Weil Tango.  I love it, but it requires batteries, and a specialty jeweler to remove the back.   I have to travel a ways to get the battery changed, which is annoying.  I had it sent to Switzerland for repair once when the back was badly scratched by a local watch repair person who did not have the correct tool for the battery change.  To remedy that, about 6-8 years ago, I purchased a Citizen Eco Drive watch.  Something about the fit of the Eco Drive watch makes it uncomfortable on my wrist.  Resizing never helped. In comparison to the Raymond Weil, the clock face is thicker in diameter and each link on the bracelet is a bit wider making it slightly less flexible. The Raymond Weil needs a battery… I have two cheap fashion watches, a Skagen and a Citizen, purchased over the years to wear with my work outfits.  They are warm toned and I don’t wear them anymore.  I had a second, smaller Raymond Weil with a white face, gold plated, and black leather strap, the stem got caught on a door hinge and for whatever reason it was not repairable.

Instead of a watch, I have been wearing a Fit Bit Charge. It’s functional, but the battery needs recharging at awkward times. It’s not particularly pretty.  I miss wearing a watch.

I have been thinking about replacing the Eco Drive with a watch that has an automatic mechanism, and a more flexible metal band, but I do not want to spend a fortune. I did some research and found some automatic watches in the $300-$700 price range. Yesterday, I stumbled upon the exact watch I was considering at 40% discount at a reliable retailer.  I ordered it.  I will know soon enough if it’s comfortable.  I know it can be sized locally so I’m not worried about that…..

Meanwhile, I am noticing that no one around me wears watches anymore. I think most people use their cell phones.

Over to you. Do you wear a watch?
