I used to love watches in my early days. Had old ones from my grandparents and liked the bigness of the mens ones. Haven’t worn one for a long time, even before phones, though might have another go if the right one comes along, just so I’m not checking my phone as often for the time.

Serious question about those precious watches with big price tags: they are so gorgeous, but how does it work going through airport security? Often our binned items arrive on the other side of the human X-ray machine before we do, I think it might cause me even more anxiety than I already have. Or maybe they let you leave your watch on your wrist?

Thanks Staysfit for liking my collection! I’m not sure where some of them came from which is strange-mostly my Mum I suppose. I looked up some of the brands like Roamer and Buren Rival, reasonable brands. I think I might try to wear some of them more often seeing they all seem to work.
I was thrilled to find the Pierre Cardin as I do wear that for some special occasions.

I have a couple of very nice watches (gifts from my husband - a Hermes and a Breitling) and some that are not so fancy (Philip Stein) from about 10-15 years ago ago, before the advent of smartwatches and fitness trackers. When I first got a Fitbit, I wore it clipped to my waistband but I’ve gotten away from that habit. My oldest watch is from a trip I took to Switzerland over 30 years ago — the maker is Davis and at the time it was an expensive purchase for me. I have a couple of pretty rose gold watches (Skagen and Olivia Burton) from when they trended a decade or so ago, but I haven’t worn them in ages. A dressy mixed metal Skagen is good for dressy occasions.

The problem these days is that I use my Fitbit Inspire on my watch arm. I’ve wondered if I could get used to wearing that on my dominant side (the right) so I can get more use from my watches. My Hermes has a lovely double-wrap blue leather strap and is very wearable for everyday, and I’d like to wear it more often.

Judy: My husband puts his watch in an inside pocket in his messenger bag when going through security. I don’t bother, I just travel with a cheapie and toss it into the bowl.

I collected photos of mine from online, as I'm having trouble downloading photos from my phone.

I like my Apple Watch but I seem to have the worst luck with it when I travel. Either the charger stops working or I forget the cord or I can’t figure out how to change the time zone or some other catastrophe happens and I can’t use it. So I’ve gone back to a good old fashioned wrist watch when I travel!

How lovely that you daughter wants to wear your watch.
I love checking the time and seeing my parents' watches. I could add my grandmothers to my stack as it is similar in style, but I do not cuz it requires winding!

judy - I've taken all my watches through security with no issues. I have TSA precheck, I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not for watches.

I have been wearing a watch for ages - I needed it on the job. But I tend to get relatively cheap watches that I hope will hold up well because I know that eventually they will get wet or something will happen. The exception was when I was visiting my mom and she asked me about my watch and I told her my watch was broken. She gave me a nice one she had that was so small she could no longer read it. (It got lost a few years later on a trip.) Now I'm wearing a Timex Easy Reader.
I've never had a problem with my watch when flying.

I also have TSA pre-check, but I've never been asked to remove a watch at the airport.

I have TSA pre-check and I believe I have been asked to put my watch into a small dish once or twice when walking through. They held it and then handed it right to me. It did not go through with everything else. However, if I had a truly expensive watch, I doubt I would bring it with me when traveling. I switch to costume jewelry when I travel.

The first watch I ordered did not work out. I am looking at alternate options. My top contenders are the Tudor Clair de Rose with a silver opaline dial and Roman numerals all around (no diamonds), the other is a Longines PrimaLuna, with mop dial and Roman numerals all around. I have a slight preference for the Tudor, because I like the clock face better, but it is a difficult watch to find to try on.

I have been looking at the Oura ring as a Fitbit replacement. As a fitness tracker it looks like it will offer me most of what I already use in my Fitbit except realtime access to a timer, distance and HR. I can always switch to a fitness watch for specific workouts when needed. The first step for the oura ring is sizing. I have ordered a sizing kit.

I am a longtime, dyed-in-the-wool watch-wearer. I love watches.

I also wear a Whoop fitness tracker on my other wrist.

Echo, I adore that Gucci watch, with the bee.

My two most current are below in Finds. I wear the white Tissot daily. The black one I wear less often but like it when I'm wearing a lot of black in an outfit, and shiny silver jewelry.

I also have two of my father's, which I treasure, but I guess I didn't create Finds for them.

I’m sorry the first watch you tried didn’t work out Staysfit! Your original high school Pulsar is so similar to my original Pulsar, which was I think a first anniversary present from my DH in 1987. I loved it, but ruined it at work in 1995 when I was shaking down a mercury thermometer (before the days of aural thermometers) and it broke when it hit my watch. All the mercury leaked out and merged with the metal of the watch, which wrecked it and was probably unsafe as well. So I bought the new Pulsar on insurance, but you couldn’t get the same sort of band.
I remembered after you posted that I had been enamoured of a Guess watch I saw online, in recent months. It feels really Art Deco to me. It’s called the Audrey. I’m not sure of the quality and since I have 10 watches already no rush to purchase, if at all!

Staysfit! FWIW:

I have a very narrow wrist and protruding wrist bone too. I have the smaller Apple Watch and find it very comfortable. I make sure the watch is on the far side of the bone - away from my hand - and secured tightly so that it does not shift. My bracelets dangle on the other side of the bone - closest to my hand.

This might work for you too. Just putting it out there

I'm very old school and still wear a wristwatch. My current watch is a Skagen rose gold mesh band watch. It is a replacement for a much loved white ceramic Skagen watch, which was a Christmas gift from Mr. ND.

Thanks to everyone who addressed my airport security question with regard to watches !

Update: I took the Pulsar watch to a jeweler to see if it could be adjusted to fit DD, and to see if it still works. Sadly, the battery had corroded inside the watch and it was going to cost more to fix the watch than was worth the effort because it is not going to fit DD’s wrist. Therefore, it is now a sentimental item. I had to leave the RW watch with the jeweler to get the battery changed and I am praying its battery didn’t corrode also. Lesson learned, do not store quartz watches that are not being used with their batteries!

Angie, your idea of how to wear a watch is excellent. Thanks! I have previously positioned my watches in front of that bone, closer to my hand, but putting it further back allows for a slightly larger size and makes room for my bangles, it also helps because sleeves are often too short for me so taking up space on my wrist this way is useful.

I went to local jewelry shops to try on watches and found some I like, but they were at a price point beyond what I wanted to pay. My two favorites were a longines dolce vita mini tank style and a Breitling Navatimer 32mm, which looks very pretty in person, less so in photos. I also liked the size and look of Breitling Chronomat 34 mm despite it being a bit sporty. Trying them on made me realize how much I miss switching up my watches and bangles as part of my daily style. I used to switch between 4-5 watches…the Pulsar, a Bulova (long gone), the Citizen, the Skagen the Raymond Weil, and I had a DKNY watch which I passed to DD already.

I am guessing I will end up with a couple watches and rotate them. I like the replacement that I ordered. It’s a Tissot, Chemin de Tournelles 32mm watch with a mother of pearl face. I also ordered a Citizen XC titanium Eco-Drive watch that works as a fun statement, with a blue face.

I am not sure a fitness ring will work. I have tried the sizing kit and my fingers seem to be in between the sizes offered.

Glad that was helpful info, Staysfit. Added a pic. That's right now:

Glad you've found some watch options! Fun to have several and rotate them
