Wanting one more pair of work boots - but which ones?

I have the larger size to these boots on the way for Work Boot #1.

But I'm also wanting another pair to switch off. Thinking it should be more of a fun item - looking at burgundy, patent, burgundy patent, ombre... There are tons of fun-looking boots out there, but I only want to get 2 total that are just for work.

1 - Ombre knee-high patent. Does the patent make 'em look like galoshes? Returnable, but I'd have to pay return shipping myself. But! The ombre reminds me of a Prada boot I sighed over a few years ago...

2 - The platform heel means I could actually wear my boot cuts to work! ETA: brand is Kork-Ease, and reviews say they aren't heavy.

3 - Angie pick! But the most expensive. Too short for bootcuts (ETA: because mine are hemmed for higher heels).

4 - Kind of a hybrid of 2 and 3. These ARE galoshes, so I could wear them with my bootcuts and in the rain (I don't have 100% waterproof boots yet, just leather with repellant spray).

What would you do?

I think #4 would work fine. My only concern would be breathability. If you are in them all day your feet will get sweaty and prone to fungus stuff. That said, my favorite is #2.

I think #2 is a bit high for work. Agree with Deb about breathability of #4. So by default my vote is #3.

Anna, do you mean too high as in inappropriate or too high as in uncomfortable? With the platform, it is equivalent to a 1.75" heel.

In general, patent doesn't have as much give as regular leather, so I would worry about comfort; same concern re heat/sweatiness of the waterproof ones. I love platforms, but worry about the weight of #2 and whether you would find yourself in situations where you might twist your ankle/step a bit wrong. I, personally, would save *fun* looks for after hours and put my highest priority on super non-pinching cushioned comfort during work so my feet still had energy for those non-work fun looks!

This may seem obvious but I think 4 looks too much like rain boots and you won't feel like they're the "fun" item you're looking for, so I'm for 2 or 3 depending on your budget etc. you really wouldn't wear boot cuts with 3? I think you could depending on what you put on top (something very fitted) but maybe that's a major faux pas.

Also they make good anti fungal sprays available online or through your podiatrist that is a good precaution with any shoes.

Ok, I looked and reviews seem to say #2 is very lightweight, so that's not an issue.

Dale, I think 3 would look good with bootcuts, but my jeans are hemmed for my higher heels.

I tried 2 in gold early in my YLF life - they were voted too 70s except by Marley and I sent 'em back. Kind of sorry now! They are hugely comfortable but not sure they are practical.

Agree that 4 might not be breatheable enough for all-day feets.

If number 1 is the Frye Veronica I have found them the most comfortable shoe for working retail but I don't have them in patent leather. I remember patent leather never stretched as much as regular leather & that is a problem for me often.

I would go with 2 or 3. But you'll need to try them for comfort, which is the most important issue.

OK, I'm pretty upset right now, because I really wanted to try #3, but my job has taken soooo long to get me set up with my retail card (only way to use discount online) that the Melins are now GONE in my size in burgundy. :_(

Ugh, super frustrating... there is only one person who could do it, and she was never there when I was.

Too bad about the Melins. I was going to vote for #2 anyway, I think they're fun and would still be comfy, and allow you to get your bootcuts into work outfits.

Hmm, I like the looks of 2-4. You're right that #1 looks too much like galoshes for me. Also if they are Frye Veronica slouches, I find them a really awkward height, like too tall to be mid-calf and too short to be tall boots. I think your boot shaft heights are about the same as mine.

So... you know I did not find the Melins all that comfy but they are very nice shoes and may play better with your feet. I do think they are better with pants than skirts. I like #2 and actually thought about trying them myself. I have however tried on other Kork ease boots in the past and did not find them comfy on my arch and the soles were pretty hard. Because of the solid platform sole they have to fit your arch well to be comfy. Still, worth a try I think.

I would advise against #4 because of the rubber issue. They will be HOT and sweaty, especially if wearing all day indoors. I've never found truly comfortable rain boots to be honest.

I don't *need* to, was just thinking of versatility. I definitely would have tried them if I had got my employee discount before they sold out.

Yeah. Those Melin booties have FLOWN out of stores because they look like $600 boots for the price of $230.

Even more tears... maybe I should still try them in black.

Always worth a try if you manage to find a pair in your size.

WELL. I did a live chat, and once again it paid off! She found a pair of the Bordo Melins in a size 39 for me. Still could not use my discount, but I will worry about that if they are keepers. Perhaps they would let me return and re-buy with my Nordies card when it comes. In any case, wheeee!
