What should I wear for my BFF’s Wedding?

My best friend since 3rd grade is finally getting
married we are nearing 40. I have no idea what to wear. I am not in the wedding
party as she has chosen her soon to be step daughters to be in the ceremony and
stand next to her but I am a matron of honor- wedding coordinator- slave girl
of sorts and will be present for set up/ rehearsal and playing hostess and
runner during the reception.

Wedding is an outside evening event in the Cali summer. The
colors are a emeraldy green and teal mix.

but my mom completely gawked at that idea . She said I would be upstaging the
bride. She is right sort of but isn’t it a formal event? Although I would
probably never get to wear is after to often I like the idea of it . My BFF’s Jr.
Bridesmaids are wearing Eshakti dresses.
Simple retro-country cotton bridesmaid dresses.

I guess I am unsure of how much to dress up or how close to the wedding party I should match if at all and I want to
look good. ( Fit and flare or Sheath for my apple/ rectangle busty body? I am
thinking fit and flare. )

Thoughts?! Is this Navy too close to the wedding colors?

I think 1, 2 and 5 (maybe, depending on the fabric) are definitely day dresses and not fancy enough for an evening wedding. I think 3 is great. I think both pair of shoes are too daytime/casual and I'd go for something a little more dressy.

Your first pick is a lovely dress but I find it a bit too sexy for a wedding, specially for a busty girl. I concur with MaryK that 1 and 2 are not dressy enough. I would go for 3 with silver or gold heels.

I would most likely wear a lace cami to cover any wild cleavage. I am generally very modest.

The first dress you picked is gorgeous, but yes - it would be a bit too exposing, even with a cami -- unless it was a really covered up one, I guess. So if delivery is free you could always try, since your heart is there.

I agree with Mary K about footwear. You will want something a little dressier. I like the third dress, too. But it will all be in the trying on.

I will give this some more thought. I've been hunting for dresses myself in the past few weeks. My figure flattery requirements are pretty much the opposite, but something may come to me from the dim recesses of my memory if I give it a little time. Stay tuned.

Hard to imagine that anything could look LESS va-va-voom on Christina but it actually looks less bombshell on her than on the model!

IS it free to try? If so, why don't you go for it?

Are the bridesmaids wearing day dresses? I'd take my cue from that.

I don't think the pinup girl dress would be over the top. It's how it's modeled...if it were on a dress form instead it might not look so outrageous! If that is too racy, then I'd go with something similar in dressiness to the wedding party but maybe in a complimentary color with a print so it doesn't look like you're trying to present yourself as one of the wedding party (even though you sort of are).

You may also want to ask the bride if she has a preference for what you should wear...she may be thinking of you sort of as one of the wedding party and thus wish you to wear something co-ordinating. Just a thought!

Your first choice is a gorgeous dress, but I like kkards suggestion to confer with the bride. I was upstaged by someone who wasn't even invited to our wedding - girlfriend of one of the band members. That was almost 28 years ago and I still remember.....

3 or 4 would be my next choices.

I think the dress you chose is awesome. It is pulled down way too low on the model, but it looks amazing on CH. Why don't you give it a go? And you know everyone here will give you an honest assessment.

Conferring with bride and will post back. I found a couple more that I like. Love the third, but not sure if its too costume like and over the top. I like the birdys as it appeals to my whimsy.

Bride wants one of the Navy dresses.....satin is out I think in favor of more country look. I guess I will have to channel Christina Herdericks some other day;-)

I like the white sandal idea. I needed to find a pair anyway.....I need to think about if I want to do the bird dress or one with out embellishment. If I get the solid blue, I could pull in any color for shoes.

Shoes I found.....( having a hard time finding a retro classic type sandle/ shoe in white this season. All cream.)

I found this at Goodwill today by chance. Honest opinions please. I am not used to showing my arms. I think I need a cami or better bra. White pearls/sandals /and cami perhaps? Maybe a white bolero? Does it age me in a bad way? I want kitschy sultry...not goodwill bag lady.

I like the Goodwill dress but not with the cami. I like the birdie dress a lot. I think cream shoes are ok with white prints these days.

For this dress, your bra choice is all-important. You need one of those low cut bras that really lifts the girls up, or even with a bit of a push up effect. That is, if you go without the cami.

If you are more comfortable with a cami, can you get one of these lace panels you put over your bra for a dressier look? Either black or white.

Great find! Your arms, by the way, are fine. I'm always wishing for slimmer limbs, so I know what it's like to be sensitive about this, but your arms are nicely shaped and long.

Denise had some great ideas. Footwear and accessories can bring out the retro vibe you do so well.

Gah, thanks guys. I was hoping this would work. I will get working on the proper bra. I usually wear Euro brands like Curvy Kate and Panache. I found a few things in my size that may work. Light gray shoes and a white/ cream shrug. What is the protocol for color matching? Will light gray and cream work together with blue? I was thinking of book marking the white and blue with a shoe flower or hair flower or jewelry. Finishing with silver jewelry.

I'm not sure about the bustline of the Goodwill dress. I was just looking at old pics of when I was maid of honor for my own BFF. It had a similar kind of empire waist. It seemed so pretty at the time but now, even tho it was custom fitted, I don't know. Looks really funny in pics.

please elaborate^. Did you feel like the shape did not suit your body or is it too outdated? Or was there something else? Just curious. I am not sure this dress is considered empire as there is no seem. Its more of a sheath with front rouching..... But I could be wrong on the description.
