I always find I want more/slightly different colours when at warm weather destinations than I normally wear in urban Toronto (or cottage country). summer. They are three different capsules really! It’s interesting if that also applied somewhat for an off-season Fla trip, even though I think black and white was a fabulous and appropriate choice to build your capsule. I adore the Marimekko dress, the exact right cut/proportions/print combo.

Love your capsule and all the combinations, so practical and stylish. As said in another post holidays really teach you how to get the most out of your wardrobe.

You look amazing in all of these. Most of all #14 because your new friend would have had me jumping out of my skin! I love the bright pink on you, but you look just as fab in neutrals and prints. Glad you had a great vacation!

What a fantastic travel capsule — you look amazing in every outfit! I’m so glad you had a great time.

I love the fit of that denim jacket. I’ve thought about a new denim jacket with a similar slight oversized vibe (my old ones are all cropped and fitted, except for the upside-downable jacket, which is very oversized and fits a different purpose). Where is that from? It looks soft and a bit on the fluid side, whereas most larger denim jackets I see are stiff.

Jules, Sally, Jaime, Janet - thanks!

Janet - the denim jacket is softer than the most. It’s Eileen Fisher, one of my finds from Winners last year. I like that it has dropped shoulders, denim jackets are always too big on me in the shoulders.

Beautiful capsule! It is such a treat to read about your lovely vacation and see your perfect capsule in action! I too am surprised at the bright pink beachwear, but it looks fabulous. I love everything! That Marimekko dress is especially wonderful (I cannot resist a print :).

Delighted! I adore seeing how cohesive and concise your beach and travell wardrobe was-and you looked killer fab-thus I would have been terrifyed if that "visitor" in nr 14 would have landed on me!:-((
Is your pink maxi cover-up a knit or an woven? I usually stay away from black bottoms on sunny vacations(but my suits are usually all black) and use mainly whites for cover ups on the beach (and have a green linen shirt in a color like your's EF one, too:-))--BUT love that shocking fuchsia there on You--- of course makes a great match with your same color printed swimsuit- think with a simple back one wouldn't make that cheery statement! YLF Irina!!

ETA: Black can work amazingly well on beachy holidays and a well tanned skin but you need to show some extra skin for catching that breezy feel with it, I'd say. (I used to do it, too-a decade ago- when my body and limbs were more toned:-)). I see if I can add a pictie I caught of a lass I admired looking so fab in her all black during my holiday.

First is the lass I captured as she looked so fab in her sheat, hat and slides. The second lass has some pinstripes going on and is my girl(DD25:-)) but think it could be still counted here, haha!

You look wonderfully polished for a beach vacation, and your swim capsule is covetable! I'm amazed by how many pieces went unworn; I think you are a true minimalist in your approach to dressing, Irina. I bet next time you travel you'll confidently pare down even further. Many of us can only aspire to what you do so effortlessly!

Suntiger -- I've been dreaming of a camping/paddling/snorkelling trip on FL's barrier islands as a break from cold weather. Maybe Shell Key and Cayo Costa. Probably not this winter, but maybe next...

Lyn67, I agree about black & the beach. It is worn in Tampa/St Pete. I didn’t wear it there nearly as much as I do here in Berlin, probably in part because the “rules” are different & I never really figured out what they were. But it can be and is worn well by some folks even in the middle of the endless heat.

Jonesy, LaPed & lyn67, thanks!

lyn67, the fuchsia dress is 100% linen, jerseys type of fabric, basically it’s a big t-shirt.

I wear some black garments like button down shirt, jumpsuit, t-shirt and linen pants this past summers Black clothes works well in the urban environment. I wore black linen pants with a white EF cotton top while visiting St.Pete and was fine. I also wore the same pants and a grey sweatshirt on the beach for a sunset watching and wished I had a light color pants instead. I’m looking for white and other light color linen items for my beach capsule but also to wear casually here, in Toronto.

Ah, I understand, now better--with a minimal wardrobe you always want multifunctional pieces (that's another story itself-and I admire your firm commitment)! I also have to agree, black works great in urban environment and there were certain occasions and venues where your blacks worked perfectly good on a beach vacation, too- as you said (sunset watching, city walking) so I really meant reflecting on my own feelings, only. I am looking forward to see how you will approach your next multifunctional items in white/light linen-You are really good at that!
Stag
, ref blacks, I don't really think you have to succumb to any silly rules ---just trust your feelings & feel free to do what is best for you!

Thanks lyn67. That’s why I had the quote marks around rule. There is no fashion police on the beach, and I wouldn’t grant them dominion over me anyway. But black isn’t a great color for me the way it is for some people, including Irina, so there wasn’t any way to wear it that just felt good to me, so I skipped it. The point was that whereas many people find black an easy neutral to default to in their daily lives, it seems to require different thought at the beach, and I didn’t care to figure it out (see: not my best color anyway)

It is so true about black at the seaside in very high temps. I have also noted I don't like wearing black in the day in mid-summer, even if in linen or cotton. But in the evening it is good for me.
