Since I have been thinking a lot about priorities, wardrobe function, time, money, etc, I have come up with a little resolution, or "challenge" for myself. I feel like my wardrobe is in a very good place. Things I've realized:
- I have a few wants/needs to round it out, but if I don't even get those then I will be fine.
- I have priorities bigger then shopping for and spending money on clothes, ie killing the mortgage ASAP.
- Time is limited and I want to spend it wisely. Less browsing and shopping online means more time to do more important things like have fun with my kids, read, run.
- I function much better with less choices. Choices overwhelm me, so a limited wardrobe is very ideal.
- I want to spend my time and money pursuing what makes me most happy (which is maybe a long, philosophical point but mostly encompasses my previous points)
So, in order to make achieving these goals or ideas easier I decided I would unsubscribe to all emails that I get from clothing sites. You know the ones that send you coupon codes, or just the latest on what's in store. I will also erase all the links and bookmarks on both my computer and iPad to any online stores. No more mindless browsing of stores for hours.
This should be a 2-fold solution. First, I will not be on the clothing sites to be tempted and therefore not spend money on more clothes I don't need, and second, I will have more time to do those important things I mentioned earlier. I will however allow myself to get the few items I talked about in my other post, if and when I have saved the money and still have the need for them. So that would mean since I know exactly what I want, I go to that item on one site, order it, and get out.
I want to add that I hope I don't come across as seeming like I think all shopping is bad and I don't agree with it, it's just the right thing for me right now. I will happily chime in on other's purchases and will love to see what everyone else is buying! The only thing is, I may not follow a link if you post it, as I don't want that to lead to mindless browsing.
The only other exception to my rule is when I need to get a few kids clothes. I'm also banning the browsing of those sites (It's just as much fun!) but I will go on a couple times this year to get seasonal clothes for them. My kids do have just as minimal wardrobe as me though, and I prefer it that way.
So, I'm not leaving YLF or anything. I just won't be posting too much on what I buy or things I'm coveting or wanting. You've seen my list, and I may be lucky enough to get a few of those this year. I will use all the great support and advice on YLF now to try to make my current wardrobe work awesome for me, and create some fab outfits. So more WIW's coming up!
