This weekend I was able to visit the Universal Standard showroom east of Seattle with a couple friends (current & former YLF members) and had a great time trying new pieces. These are a couple that I brought home:

Cropped, indigo coated zippered jeans
Olive Meridian zippered pullover (I also have this sweatshirt in forest green and wear it a lot.)

I am in love with these jeans. High enough for my waist, very flattering. And yay, finally I have something that pairs well with patterned socks!

As you may know, I’ve been a big fan of Universal Standard for a couple years. The quality of the garments I’ve got has impressed me, especially the knits.

What I’m aiming for with this brand is building a casual wardrobe capsule that is appropriate to wear to work or to go out, but not business casual, because I am more comfortable in clothes with a dressy edge and I sometimes feel sloppy in jeans and sweatshirts. This is the perfect middle ground. Also, since growing my hair out and playing with soft waves, I want some clothing that “tones down the pretty.” Not exactly androgynous or tomboy, but geometric details, clean lines, leaning toward less hourglass silhouettes/retro bombshell dresses or skirts, accentuating my legs or collarbones rather than my waist or bust.
