It's no secret that I went to HK last year for an amazing 4 months studying abroad. Coincidentally, my husband will be going there for business tomorrow and I figured, hey, think of it as a 50% off a plane ticket ... so I'm going out there with him. We're going to spend 10 days there, in situations ranging from light hiking to a press conference. Temperatures will range from the 18 - 25C (65 - 80 F), which is perfect for li'l ol' me who runs super duper cold (ugh, HK AC is going to be ferocious). But I've been there before; I know the climate, the environmental challenges, the aesthetic ... easy peasy, right?

Well, no. I've been feeling uninspired to shop this past season and it's spilling out into my dressing and -- by extension -- my packing. Here's my half-hearted attempt to put together clothing for 10 days, which is mostly just falling back on classic favourites.

** Tops **
Long-sleeve breton, sparkly dolman sweater (very airy), white silk blouse, blue striped tee, holey sweater. There's also a gray t-shirt with my company's logo, under the shoes, in case I get roped into the press event (otherwise, I'll just wear it for sleeping).

** Bottoms **
Drapy black trousers, straight-legged jeans, linen bermudas.

*** Toppers, layers, shoes, etc ***
Red/purple scarf, black and blush layering tanks, dalmation smoking flats, black cons. Not pictured: trench coat or pleather moto, gray saddlebag purse, taupe belt, PJ pants, undies.

That's it. I might make the following substitutions, but as you can see there's nothing ground-breaking here.
  • The scarf doesn't quite work with the soft palette, so it might get replaced.
  • I'm still undecided between a pleather moto or a trench.
  • I'm not really jazzed about hiking in bermudas or jeans, so my pajama bottoms might get subbed out for technical shorts.
Any other substitutions/additions/removals I ought to consider? Or tips to get excited again about trip packing or shopping?
