UK YLF gathering- plans underway

Hi everyone,
Plans are underway for the YLF London gathering. I am planning on meeting londonkiwi on Sat. Aug. 7th sometime mid morning. I think Louise might be joining. We have not set a definite time or place yet. Anyone around?

Julie, I will PM you about Edinburgh. That schedule is never very planned- the Fringe is such chaos!

Jean, I've just been messaging Fi about this. I haven't been around YLF lately but would love to join you guys! I'm off on holiday the very next morning so was happy that I wouldn't miss it.

Eek- just had a very scary thought. All my favourite clothes will be washed, ironed and packed away for my holiday by then! What to wear to my very first YLF meetup in such circumstances?

I will have to check my bank account, and check flight prices but I might be able to meet you! My boyfriend is away for two weeks in the States so I need something to entertain myself, a trip to London might be in order.

Flights booked! I'm flying in on Saturday morning, and flying back to Ireland on Sunday night as there is an exhibition in the V&A I want to see on Sunday morning.

Wow. I am almost tempted to take a mini vacation to London. What a great idea to also ask to meet up with YLF folks whenever traveling. Truly a gift from Angie and Greg to have this community.

Do not stress about what to wear. I can tell everyone right now- I will not be in my best fashion. This is an incredibly active trip and we lug suitcases around for miles between London and Scotland. I pack for 10 days in a carry on. l will probably be wrinkled and have less than stellar shoes. I will gladly put my pride aside - I want to meet you all!!!

It actually isn't too difficult for me to get to London from Ireland as I live half an hour away from an airport, and Ryanair are pretty cheap when you book early.

Are you staying overnight in London on Saturday night, or are you going back up to Birmingham?

Can't wait!

I arrive into Stansted at 8am, and will take the Stansted Express into London city centre. I think I still have my Oyster card, so it'll be easy enough to make my way to you by the Underground.

Louise, I'm looking at a couple of university residences which are let as hotel rooms or at a private room in a hostel. They both look like they will be around £30 for the night. If you want to know specific details, send me a PM.

Oh, I'm so happy you're coming Dawn! Louise, I hope you can make it. I know people who've stayed in dorm rooms before and it seems like a safe and affordable alternative to a hotel. But if I remember correctly, the fast train to Birmingham is only like 2.5 hours or something (I lived there for 1 semester in uni) so you could just take an evening train home?

Angie, I'll take pictures if you want. I've got a new DSLR that I'm having lots of fun with. (Have actually got a food styling/photography gig coming up!) My only caveat would be that you wait until I'm home from holiday for the post! But I'm guessing Jean will also have a camera with her.

Ele you're right, though it's the slow train which is 2 hr 30 ish the Virgin service is about an hour 30! though of course more expensive x

Oh Fiona, you have no idea HOW tempted I am. Unfortunately my budget just won't allow for unexpected expenses at the moment. I'm quite sad about it, because I would loved to have been there and finally get to meet you all in person-(((
