Seattle is becoming a lot more fashionable: Seeing fewer people in gear and Athleisure at the moment. Almost everyone in some sort of cropped pant/jean. Lots of white jeans too. Culottes, wide crops, cropped straights, cropped flares, ankle pants - you name it. Saw lots of shorts, cold shoulder tops, white fashion sneakers, and dresses in the heat wave. Heels EXTREMELY rare.

Which brings me to my next bold statement.

Flats and low heels are trendier than higher heels: I mean that from an official fashion perspective (not just what you see on the streets in person). I have waited my whole life for this fashion era.

Off to work with a client all day so I'll leave you to ponder.

I'm especially glad flats are having their moment. I'm stuck in my Bernardo flat sandals for the next several weeks, at least.

I think the block heel has been the biggest item to make this trend change from high heels. I attended a semi formal function a few weeks ago. was very happy to see so many of the 18 to 30 yr olds wearing 2 to 3 inch block heel dressy sandals with their dresses.

Flats and low heels are trendier here in Manhattan too. In fact, you almost never see either traditional pumps (except on lawyers in the courtroom), and they would look so out of date. Sneakers are everywhere at all times, but also many other flat shoes are popular. Since I need and prefer to wear sneakers nearly all the time, this is wonderful news.

I have waited my entire life for flats and low heeled shoes to become fashionable. The fact that they have overtaken heels is a miracle. I wish with all my heart that my Mother could have lived to see this day.

I love hearing that flats are "in." I remember a few years ago when I struggled to find flats to buy, everything was wedges for summer. One thing that often puzzles me is the number of bloggers I see sporting heels when I rarely see that on the streets in my area.

Hooray to each statement! It must please you no end to see your fellow citizens looking so fashionable.

I, too, am thrilled that flats have overtaken heels. This is one trend that I'm really noticing, even in my quiet little backwater! Higher heels just don't seem right somehow.

I guess since comfortable and fashionable flats are easier to find, we can leave our hiking boots at home here in Seattle. This fall we need fashionable and functional rain coats so we can leave our gear coats at home too

As fraught as the overall athleisure trend can be, I'm grateful for it since I think it's partly responsible for the popularity of fashion sneakers!

This week seems to mark a change in the fashion calendar! All of a sudden folks in the BIG CITY are wearing COLOUR! Also, seeing cropped trousers - however mainly looser flowing/gaucho styles.

1. So glad that Seattle is becoming more fashionable. That is my hope for my town.
I forget where I read this, but I think that it only takes a very small number of people to influence many.
Maybe you're partly responsible for Seattle stepping it up!

2. I agree that flatter footwear is more ins tyle. I ended up packing away my 3" stiletto heels (which work well with flares) because they felt a little awkward and perhaps a little dated.

This is music to my ears! I really dislike heels, and am committed to not buying them anymore. Hopefully I will have lots of low heeled beauties to choose from this fall when it's time to shop for work.

Would 2" heels qualify as low heels? To me they kind of would... And what to do with the lovely 3" heel PG Cayannes and such? I think I will wear all those in addition to the flats. I will not be really fashionable which will not be new to me but I love those shoes.

Although I'm only 157cm I've never been one to wear heels to compensate for a lack of height. I walk a lot and move fast - so heels have always been just for the occasional special event.
Long live this trend for flats + comfort!

Nice to hear what's taking place on the west coast. When I was in Michigan last week athleisure ruled in an almost frightening way and I will be happy when the trend fades away. I am happy with most heel heights under 3.5 inches, so flats or heels are fine with me. Shoes make my wardrobe more interesting and are easy to change as fashion trends shift.

Staysfit, I don't think the Athleisure trend will ever disappear in the US and Canada. Especially in colder weather.

Joyce, no worries. The Cayennes are absolutely still in style. All my clients who have them - wear them. 2 inches qualifies as a low heel.

Smittie, I have ONE pair of two inch heeled booties - "high heels" for me - that I kept to wear with my bell bottom jeans. Good strategy.

Lisa, bloggers are still generally "heavy on the heels", although I don't know if they actually wear them in person, (or if it's just for the photos).

Oh, I'm surely glad to hear that flats have overtaken high heels. Now if the elusive combination of flats in wide width, with serious comfort, and actual style would only become more prevalent . . .

I've seen a couple of articles on very trend-specific fashion sites about pointy-toe boots and pumps coming back. But my feet will no longer tolerate such adornments, and there are many comfy alternatives.

Hooray! I am just living my loafers and other flats.

I've been searching for a perfect black sneaker- hybrid but have not found " the one". I do not wear sneakers to work, but some others do, so if I find my perfect, low- profile ones, I may take advantage of the trend and wear on some Fridays and working weekends. I've identified that I love the elastic lace- slip on type ( not sure what to call them), as a cross between standard laces and the Vans - type plain slip on. I found a great Puma, but not in my size, and I can't seem to locate it on the web.
