Hi girls,
I have been away for quite some time. Too much hard work at the office.
In the meantime I have turned blond as you see my grey outgrow less. I am turning 61 next month, so these "inconveniences" happen.
At the moment I am trying to style skirts and dresses in a more contemporary way. Which is hard for me. Most modern shoes are just not my kind of shoes and boy oh boy do they define an outfit.
I used normal pumps in this outfit but tried to bring it up to 2015 with the sweater and the necklace.

Loving the textured top, nice to see that zips look great when youre over 50 like me, its given me some ideas. Also absolutely love the back of the necklace, but the front is an awkward length and chunkiness perhaps - I actually bought one like this for my daughter in her 20s and she found it difficult to match to an outfit and it didnt get used much. Maybe under an opened neck shirt? X

You look elegant and current, Greetje. I love that draped skirt, and the way you have styled it here. I agree that footwear does indeed define an outfit, but the pumps look perfect.

While shoes do a lot for an outfit , they aren't everything. This is a great mix of classic and modern that works beautifully together.

Awesome outfit, i really like the modern boxy top, and classic pencil skirt together. Lovely necklace, and that hair color really suits you. The pumps work really well with that outfit.
You mention you do not like a lot of the modern shoes, but would consider ankle-strap pumps like SE Okala? They are fairly similar aesthetically to the pumps you love and wear, just more modern.

Sorry if ive been looking at the wrong picture, I havnt got access to all the photos yet as im new on here..... but going back to the chunky necklace, it struck me that its just right for putting outside of a crisp white shirt, the shirt collar would go over the bare bit of chain and the nice back fastening could still show. X

Oh, I adore the shape and structure of your top and the leather skirt is fab. I think the pumps work perfectly fine with this. I'm getting a nice modern vibe from your look. Hair is great btw!

I love this look -- adore the structured sleeves, zip detail, and other features of the top and I think it looks great with the skirt. I agree with everyone else...and think you have the right approach. I think if a fashion look is not for you just wear great classics and update another part of your look with a more trend driven item.

Well, dear commenters, how lovely to hear such encouraging compliments. It is still a struggle for me, but I am determined to wear more skirts and dresses. After all my biggest assets are my legs, so I should emphasize that. I have been doing that too by wearing skinnies, but it got to a point where you can see me wearing skinnies every day. Balance is what we are looking for.
Tanya, I don't know SE Okala, but I am not a great fan of ankle strap shoes. I like normal pumps better because the elongate the leg. At the moment I am trying ankle booties.....

This is a terrific sweater! Fresh and crisp, modern cut, an excellent choice to revamp the skirt look. I find the refined, kitten heels totally appropriate with this, as it balances whatever bulkiness that top may have.
