Trying an outfit with orphan white jeans

I was trying to find something to go with these jeans. These are the only shoes I have around the right height.
My thinking was to go with a fitted top because the lower legs are baggy, but I don't really feel it worked, and neither did DD9 who took the photos.
Happily, though I wore this out, I didn't actually take my pink coat off all morning.

I like the colors of your outfit and the pink coat is beautiful. I think you should hem the jeans to the right length and you'll probably get more use out of them. They look too long for the sneakers.

Thanks Sara. I am thankful for the pink coat. These are pretty much ppl but I guess we aren't used to that any more! Any higher heel would be too short. Or I could taper and hem as relaxed skinnies.

Thanks Joy. I'd love to read any comments on the top too, as to my mind it doesn't work. Or rather, suggestions about what sort of top would work.

Love the pink coat -both color on you and fit. Are the white jeans straight legs? I agree with the vote to hem and I struggle with PPL on straight legs. I is hard to get them to cover the back of my heel without puddling and looking sloppy in front. Maybe try a roll or single deep cuff?

the cream top looks nice on you (cute sleeve detai) but not with these pants. I personally don't like warm cream and cool white together, and the light cream emphasizes the way the pants waistband shows through.

I'll leave suggestions for a better top to YFLers with more skill in that department and follow with interest, as I have a few of the same types of pant that I struggle with.

Wait - maybe this one? More structured upper part, with some waist definition, but pastel and cool toned. I just ordered it in my last minute NAS in burgundy and navy, but remembered it came in a pretty chambray. It hasn't arrived yet but I think YFLers have purchased.

I like the color of the top on you, and it shows your figure nicely. The necklace goes with it well. Do A line skirts work on you? That's what I'd wear them with, in a knee- or midi length.

How about a fitted top with a print, and maybe short sleeves (once it warms up some) with the pants?

Others have made good suggestions concerning length of pants. Overall, I think you have a good thing or two going for you here.

I was going to suggest a peplum-type top, but Karen beat me to it. I think you could wear something that is less fitted on top as long as it has either a very fitted waist (as in a peplum) or a band at the waist (like a sweater with a band at the bottom).

I'm not really in love with the cream top paired with the white pants, but I don't dislike it either. I would probably prefer something that was not cream, since that is so similar to white.

I too think that the pants could use hemming and look too long at this length. You could try rolling them, but I find that straight legs don't roll very well.

I like it! It's funny, I find the coat somehow brings the shoes into proportion, gives them more weight. You're probably just standing a bit differently... lol.

I think the proportions could work (although I agree with those who think the jeans are an inch or two too long... see how they bunch above the break?), but the cream top and the silver shoes are don't play well together because one is warm and the other is cool. That makes it look off-balance. A gray or cool blue top the same shape might very well work.

Anne, I don't think these are PPL's. I bet they are an inch or two too long with flats. They bunch too much at the break here - I'm nodding along with Jenn - which is what makes me think that.

I wonder whether you should have them tapered?

What everybody else said about the pants length and the beautiful pink coat.

A fitted top is fine with the jeans, I think, though once they're hemmed you might not feel that it's essential. The particular one you're wearing gives kind of a monolithic look with the jeans, which could be broken up with a longer, more substantial necklace or a lower neckline.

I think either white or a color would work better than the cream. You look so good with the pink coat, I'd like to still see you have some color when you take it off.

The top is very pretty on you especially with the necklace but I might like it better combined with a skirt? I also like the coat!
I actually think the pants, after they're hemmed, would be better balanced by more, rather than less, weight on the top, I was thinking a shirt and pullover, but I like Karen's idea of something shorter and wider too.
They just seem like a lot of pants and I think Angie's tapering idea might
make them much easier to wear.

Firstly to all of those who said the top would look better with a skirt - that is indeed how I usually wear it. It's in high rotation and I wear it to work most weeks with a skirt eg https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....ays-outfit And usually with the necklace as well.

Karen - yes they are straight leg jeans, and yes difficult to style! A while ago I would have agreed with you about cream and white (and in fact I avoided cream altogether with my olive complexion) Angie seems to think they can work together, though I'm not sure if she thinks that in this case!
That top is very pretty and I would love the colour on me! I remember now that I actually did try on my sleeveless chambray top with the jeans and the colour worked well - but it was too short and thus tummy revealing. I've had a love/hate relationship with peplums but I should try them again.

Fashiontern - Thanks. Now I'm trying to think if I own a fitted print top! Maybe one - I'll try it with that.

Rachylou - I like it better with the coat too. No question. Glad I didn't take the coat off! I do think the way I stand makes a difference. I was thinking you could see my scoliosis in some of these pictures.
The sneakers are not liked by my daughters, btw. They think I'm too conspicuous in them!

Gigi - yes they are bulky to roll. I think your top suggestions could work too, though I'm wondering if I own any.

Angie - Yes I am STRONGLY leaning towards tapering them. After all, I wear my other pair of white jeans (which are more tapered) frequently and could do with another pair in rotation- and these are too short for heels.Thanks.

Laura - I think it's the high neckline of this top. A longer necklace could help - thanks

Isabel - I tend to agree about more weight on the top working better - which is one reason the jeans look so much better with the coat, I imagine.

I don't mind white and off-white together. And I love the look with the coat. I'm thinking maybe a looser-fitting top, tucked or semi-tucked, though. A shirt, perhaps, or a pullover with a welt on the bottom? Something to show the waist, but have enough ease/looseness to balance that in the jeans.

I have some pants like that that look too long with flats but don't work with heels either. Frustrating. I would like to see those pants with more color and volume on top. The cream sweater is pretty but I like it better with your skirt. Love your pink coat! Now I think I will need a pick coat this winter!

Anne, it is nice to see you in "our" jumper! I really love it on you, especially with your skirt. I have a larger size and so I wear mine with skinny jeans, but also with my skirts to work. I immediately thought that the jeans looked a little over sized and long too. I would like to see you try these jeans with a soft shirt tucked into your jeans and worn with a belt. I think it would highlight your tiny waist.

RobinF Pink coats are great! Get one! This is the second one I have had, and was a much appreciated hand me down from someone 3 workplaces ago. It probably isn't in as great condition as I'd like, but that may not show in the pictures

Bijou -yes it was a great recommendation - and clearly popular in the shops, as there were hardly any left when I bought it - I'm not sure if there were larger sizes, for example. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll see if I can manage it!

Angie I'll alter them myself. Since they only cost me $20 (on sale) it isn't worth paying for alterations.

Anne, if they are good material that will last a long time, you might want to have them altered by a pro even though you got them inexpensively. Then again, I have no idea how good of a seamstress you are!

Yes good point Fashiontern, and one I have been debating myself. I have lots of experience with hemming, as at 5"4 I need to hem nearly everything, Also fine with taking in skirts and dresses on the side seams.

Tapering, not so much. I think I did it back in high school on some jeans! I tried it on some dress trousers a few years back. I think I can manage it

They are good material. They fit me fairly well right now, but I'm carrying what I hope (based on previous years) is winter weight, so they won't fit as well in a few months. Not that you asked that, but it factors into my decision to taper- there isn't much call for wearing ground dragging white jeans in the middle of winter!

I agree with most others. Jeans too long. I would also hem them myself, initially without tapering. I am shorter than you Anne ( 5 foot 1 or 2) and have to hem lots. Also I don't like the cream top with the white and the silver. More colour!

Stephanie, that was one of my first thoughts too, but the jeans were just not quite long enough for heels, acccording to Angies PPL (perfect pants length) guidelines

Jenni too late I'm afraid. Already tapered and hemmed (this thread is 3 weeks old).
