Travel Wardrobe Help Needed

I've been trying to style some of my clothes for a long trip which includes visiting several large cities in the US. I thought the jacket would work for dressier occasions and the white top for hot days sightseeing. My questions are 1. What accessories would help to make these very basic outfits better?, and 2. Which pants look best with the jacket? My necklace is new to me and beautiful but I'm not sure it works with the crew neckline. As always, any help is appreciated and I want your honest feedback because I'm new and want to learn.

You will fit right in with this look. Are you good at keeping things clean? I would ruin this outfit in seconds with a spill or brush against something dirty. I think the necklace works but I'm not great with neckline issues. You could roll the white jeans for a different look - would be very New England "beach town" (or T.S. Eliot)!

I love the minimalist chic of 1. I like also the idea of a larger scale necklace like the one you show ... so long as you don't mind losing it. I've given up taking valuable things traveling.

1. What about a brightly-colored cross-body bag? That'll add a pop of color to any neutral outfit, and is handy to have while traveling anyway.

2. I like all three jacket combos, but I'm partial to #3.

alaskagirl: We will be traveling in a MH so I'll be able to bring lots of clothes so getting dirty won't be a problem.

rachylou: Wow - I never thought about losing the necklace. I try to find some inexpensive jewelry at the craft fair this weekend.

Jenn: Great idea - a bright color cross body bag is going on my shopping list, too.

These are all versatile pieces for a travel capsule. The last outfit looks a little washed out to my eye but if the top is a pale pink (instead of white like it looks on my computer) then it is better. I would like to see more variety of textures in that outfit...perhaps different shoes like tan sandals or something much more colorful. But please know that I have a bias for extreme color and I think your artsy vibe is way more serene than mine!!!

ETA: I really like your necklace but I am like rachylou in that I never take any valuable jewelry on a trip, even if we are driving our own vehicle. Everyone has differing opinions about this, I suppose.

Honestly Bonnie I think you look lovely in all of these. I don't see anything missing and there's nothing I'd change. Your hair, your happy face and your personal style have already made these outfits for me.I'm sure you'll get some wonderful creative suggestions but if you had to leave in twenty minutes you'd be fine.

I like all of the pieces, and how you've put them together. I like Jenn's idea of the bright purse. Last year Fossil had several bright crossbody bags that I thought were cute. Here are a couple of this year's bags. Maybe something along these lines would bring more interest to your outfits. I agree with Rachy, don't bring anything valuable.

Sheila: Thank you. I bought these pants a few week ago and thought they would be very versatile but they are not. I tried them with every top I own and only liked the white ones. I am short waisted and really, really have to stick with the column of color. A light pink top is something I will look for next shopping trip.

I would add one long necklace - I don't know exactly what the length is called, but below the breasts and above the navel. It would give nice variety to your outfits and there are many very inexpensive ones available. A long lightweight scarf could also add a bit of color or texture or contrast.

I think all these combinations work well and look great on you. I have a slight preference for the pants in #3 with the jacket (love the jacket by the way). I don't think you need to add anything to your outfits but if you do, you might consider a hat - it can provide an additional layer of style - not to mention sun protection.

I also agree that traveling with valuable jewelry is a big risk. Don't take anything you'd be sad to lose.

These all work well to my eye. You can add color with inexpensive larger scale jewelry, and I do keep an eye out for cotton or linen blend scarves, though I tend not to wear them!
I think the colorful bag idea is good, but if you're not a color- pop person but like versatile neutrals ( and I tend to be so with handbags) then a rich summer tan leather bag also will add depth and interest, similar to the idea of footwear.

I really like both #1 and #3 (with the jeans rolled up so there is a smaller cuff and some skin shows.). #4 looks good too. I'm a fan of minimalist outfits, especially with these lovely subtle and light colors, so I don't feel that they necessarily need anything besides a bag that works with them.
With pale, minimalist outfits I would usually add additional color to my lips, so the focus is on my face, and maybe carry a colored bag like Jenn says (for example pink, red, and orange are good to echo lips and contrast nicely with white and pale blue) or even a cognac or camel as unfrumped mentions.

If you were afraid of losing your necklace I might go with a long simple silver pendant or just earrings, but I'm a jewelry minimalist.

Your new jacket looks fabulous, Bonnie. Chic, polished and comfy. The necklace looks good with the neckline, but a long pendant might be safer.

I'd like to copy #2 ,as it is exactly the easy style I'm going for. Needless to say, I love that outfit. So I think the light blue pants look best with the jacket.
The necklace looks fine with the neckline of the shirt, although I would probably wear it against my skin, but that is just me.

Barbara Diane: I like the long necklace idea. I have problems styling scarves unless it's cold outside and then I know what to do with them. I do admire those who wear them, though.

Elle: Yes, I need a hat. I have a Tilley hat for hiking but I don't think I should wear it in the city. I need to go hat shopping.

smittie: I think that this necklace, which is really special special, probably needs a lower neckline. It kind of gets lost against the crew neck tee.

These are all fab as is, Bonnie. I wouldn't change a thing. I am particularly partial to the column of white with the jacket in pic 1. I adore the simplicity of that outfit, you do simple chic so brilliantly.

Do you typically wear cross body bags? I like their ease, especially for being out and about in cities, but do find they cut an unflattering line through my bust when I wear lighter weight items, like tees.

Is the jacket blue or grey? If blue, then I like #1 best - a nice column of color(white) without two different blue tones. I would love to see #1 with the pants rolled up a bit, but mostly because I am new here and trying to learn about proportions, etc.

Aliona: Thank you. I like the white version because of the column of color and am glad to hear it looks good. I think a small lightweight cross body bag won't be awkward looking for me, I have a black one that I use all of the time and often just wear it on my shoulder.

BrieN: The jacket is navy and white stripe but it looks gray because the stripes are so close together. And yes, the pants should be rolled.

Sounds like a great trip coming up! After reading on the other thread that you and your husband like to visit museums when you travel, hope you get to see some good ones.

I'm with Aliona in loving the simplicity and proportions of #1 but they all seem fine. You know me and that true column of color, but the light wash is a great alternative.

The necklace does look gorgeous, and I don't mind it with this neckline but lower is probably *best.*

Re the pants not being as versatile as you hoped -- been there, done that. Stupid pants....I'm short-waisted too. I have to go a few inches above the crotch like in 1-3 or WAY lower...below mid-thigh to knee. Now you know why I'm in those long tunics/shirtdresses this season!

Do you wear a lot of skirts when it's warm? I find those are so much easier than pants, and personally I have a hard time pairing the length of the shirt-hem of #4 with any pants. With skirts it seems to work better. Just a thought.

I've really been trying a lot of different things trying to find the best proportions and it sounds like you have similar issues although you look perfectly proportioned in your photos. I think the length of tunic that works for you also works for me. I added this blazer and a black one this year because of the length. I have also added about a dozen tunics which I like. This shorter white tunic tee does emphasize my hips and I planned to wear it under longer toppers but wearing it with a skirt sounds like a better idea. I have an a-line denim skirt coming in the mail and will try it together. What length skirt would you wear with this length of top?
