So I bought one and left a second in the store. Thought I would post for your thoughts. My main criteria were:
Most important: Lightweight, easy on/off for travel (security at airports, etc.), packable
Wrinkle-resistant
At least somewhat good against the elements, although it's not like I am outside a lot -- just running from building to cab, usually
At least somewhat warm or roomy enough to layer under
Stylish enough to help me look pulled together
This work travel is not corporate. I can very much show my own personal style, whatever the heck that is -- streamlined with edge? Still working on that one.
I bought the first coat: Laundry by Shelly Segal, Macy's, on sale for $90. Water-repellant, not particularly warm but I sized up so there is room for sweater etc., also cinched waist will keep out wind. Definitely wrinkle-resistant.
I am still thinking about the second: Barbour (from outlet near my home). On sale for about $150. The only one (sample size). Slightly warmer probably because more quilted. Definitely packable, wrinkle-resistant. More fitted in the torso, shorter overall. More sporty looking but very cute -- kind of a patent black, shiny, which makes it feel fashiony. It's actually got a little moto detailing on the elbows. BTW, this is a terrible picture from an awkward angle.
Someday I will buy a Burberry trench, but it is way beyond me right now. I don't want a deep winter coat, just something for these transitional times. Your thoughts?
